Great Beer....the sequel

Couldnt find the other thread.

Recently had Duvel Belgian Gold. Not bad. Didn't have the punch of flavor I was expecting but it was good for a lighter beer. 95 on BA

Ommegang 3-Philsophers is really good. It's almost a wine/beer blend. Certainly can't drink much of it but the flavor is really good. The cherry flavor isn't overpowering. 92 on BA.

Finally my favorite of the 3 is Ayinger Hefeweizen. Wonderful German Hefe. 92 on BA. I think I'm going to work my way through Ayinger's offerings. They've got a doppelbock which has won medals...can't wait to try that.

Post-Game Commentary: Cats vs. Ohio State

* Cats get spanked by 20 pts by a bad Ohio State team on a neutral floor … a team that Auburn beat by 38 a few days ago. The Cats were an over-achieving 10-1 coming into this game, but warning signs have been flashing concerns for awhile about 3pt shooting and defense unable to stop dribble penetration to name two. A bad loss for the Cats tonight.

* You know you are in trouble when Aaron Bradshaw whips your two bigs … Williams has zero shooting touch, terrible … and Garrison wasn’t any better. Our bigs repeatedly missing point blank shots at the rim …

* Oweh tried. Carr tried. Butler tried … but they couldn’t finish. Robinson is charmin soft. Brea can shoot, but the offense has to get him open … and our bench … we don’t have much of a bench. OSU dared the Cats to beat them one on one while not helping on our shooters and we just don’t have the players to go make plays for themselves … CMP better hit the portal hard for some old dudes that can play for next year … I wouldn’t rely on our returning players.

* I would argue it’s been a problem all year that we have overcome by simply out scoring the other team … we can’t stop dribble penetration … that’s likely going to become a bigger problem in league play … it’s a problem … you get Butler in foul trouble and our bigs don’t challenge …

* Would you take 9-9 in the SEC and be happy about it … going by the eye test, how good is this team … this team was pre-season middle of the pack in the SEC and barely ranked in the polls … time will tell, but they may be right …

* Up Next: Cats take on Brown in an afternoon game on New Year’s Eve. Cats are going to fall in the rankings … but that’s the least of their concerns at this point.

4/22 from three means Pope's staff still hasn't figured out the spacing/extra pass issue.

Tonight's disappointing loss to an NIT-level team was more evidence that the coaching staff still has their work cut out for them. There is a very real problem right now with spacing and making the extra pass.

The good news is that there's time to fix whatever ails this UK team before SEC play, but they need to remedy this issue sooner than later.

I really feel like UK lacks dribble penetration, and on the other side of the court, UK cannot defend right-side drives to save their life right now.

Even with drastic improvement, this team will be fortunate to swing an 11-7 SEC record.

KENTUCKY HC MARK POPE, F ANDREW CARR, G OTEGA OWEH:

* Ton of credit to Ohio State. They beat us in every facet of the game.

* Clearly, there are a lot of ways we can get better.

* Couldn't find the juice, the fight. Just fell really short.

* First halves have been an issue. Having trouble finding our pace. They (OSU) were comfortable and it was hard for us to manage.

* On what OSU did to shoot such a high percentage and hold them to such a low percentage.... We got rejected over and over. That's on me. The lane shoulda been wide open.

* Thornton was just too good for us today. Everything we tried, he had an answer today.

* On the 10-day break, how the team will respond... They're going to really try to not let this destroy their time off. I know they'll come back focused and ready to get better.

* Defensive problems kinda led to us falling to pieces offensively. Bad habits from desperation. We don't do it by ourselves. We have to trust each other, help each other.

* Oweh: It's just kinda basketball. Sometimes it just won't go in. But we have to find ways to keep our energy when the ball isn't going in. We'll learn and get better.

* Fell into a space where everyone was trying to make a play to fix the team instead of just making a play to help your teammate.

We just didnt come to play

We were out hustled. They were more physical. Our guys were trying hero ball or 1 on 1 moves most all game. It was like we had no offensive plays. I would once like to see Pope get pissed and go off on the team. We desperately needed something to wake us up and we never got it. So tired of players driving by us constantly for easy baskets. SEC is going to be brutal if we don't wake up soon.

What do you think?

The one thing I noticed in this game is that Ohio State played extremely tight defense all game long. Just like Louisville did. You could tell in the Louisville game it was bothering us. Apparently Diebler noticed.

How do you combat that kind of overplaying defense? Backdoor cuts? More movement? More passes inside then right back out to an open shooter? Tonight it's like we never adjusted. Wally said at halftime it's like OSU knew all of our plays.

Most Valuable Thing You've Ever Found

$100 bill, PX parking lot near military bank in Giessen, Germany, 1988.
$40 (2 - $20 bills) about 6:30 am one morning near a bar while walking to the bus stop last year.
$20 bill in a ditch down the street from our house last year.
$20 bill near the Virginia-Tennessee state line on Bristol Rd, Shawanee, TN about 3 years ago. Next day, I found a $5 bill in the same area. Both times while hiking to the beer store. Somebody probably had their window rolled down and the $ blew out.

How about y'all?

In five (5) of our twelve (12) games, we shot 28%, or less, ... this is both a surprise and a concern.
In our two (2) losses, we were 11-49, for only 22.4% ... Clemson's and OSU's tight defense got to us.

Silver says, NBA looking at impact of too many 3’s

So Adam Silver has recently said that the league is looking at how the game has been affected by teams increasing their volume of 3’s. Look no further than Boston C’s…

I have a crazy message board solution to this problem. Make any basket assisted from beyond half court worth an extra point. 3’s & 2’s become 4’s & 3’s. Max 3 free throws.
