Little Brother ...

Does anyone remember who came up with calling Louisville, UK's "Little Brother"? I seem to remember it might have been Eddie Sutton but I'm just not sure. The uproar it caused then was epic and entertaining as hell. The KSR article about M. Brown "circling" the UK game on the schedule reminded me ... any Little Brother always looks up to their Big Brother and dreams of someday beating his Big Brother. Not much has changed after all the years.

Four Wildcats on Phil Steele Preseason All-SEC Team
Alex Afari, Joshua Braun, Aidan Laros and Alex Wollschlaeger earn preseason honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. –Four Wildcats have been named to the preseason All-Southeastern Conference team by Phil Steele, it was announced this week. Senior punter Aidan Laros was named to the second team, while graduate offensive linemen Joshua Braun and Alex Wollschlaeger earned third-team honors. Senior inside linebacker Alex Afari Jr. was listed on the fourth team.

Laros, a native of Cape Town, South Africa, transferred to UK in 2024 after two seasons at Charlotte and one at UT Martin. Last season, he saw action in all 12 games, handling kickoffs and serving as the Wildcat’s primary punter in the last nine games.

He totaled 32 punts for 1,453 yards for a 45.4 average. He totaled 10 fair catches and three touchbacks with 11 punts landing inside the 20-yard line. He had 10 punts that went over 50 yards, including a season-long 66-yard punt at Texas and a 61-yarder at Tennessee.

Off the field, Laros excels in the classroom with a double major in finance and accounting. He was named to the 2024 Division I Academic All-District Team by College Sports Communicators, was named to the Dean’s List for the Spring semester and earned a spot on the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.

Braun, of Live Oak, Florida, is a 6-foot-6, 340-pound offensive lineman who transferred to Kentucky in January after two seasons at Arkansas and three seasons at Florida. He has played in 50 career games with 32 career starts. Last season at Arkansas, he started in all 12 games and played an integral role in helping Arkansas rush for 200-plus yards in its first three games of the season. In 2023, he was named second-team All-SEC by The Associated Press.

Braun earned a bachelor’s degree in classical studies from Florida in December of 2022 and a master’s of business administration from Arkansas in December of 2024. He is currently working on a graduate certificate in nonprofit management at UK.

Wollschlaeger is a 6-7, 310-pound graduate of Aurora, Illinois. He transferred to Kentucky in January after five seasons at Bowling Green State. During his career, he has amassed 2,341 career snaps as a three-year starter for the Falcons. He was a two-time All-Mid-American Conference selection and a two-time Academic All-MAC member.

In 2024, he started in 12 games at right tackle, helping lead the Falcons to a 7-5 overall record, including a 6-2 mark in conference play. He earned First Team All-MAC honors and was on the watch lists for the Outland Trophy and the Lombardi Award.

Wollschlaeger graduated cum laude from Bowling Green State in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in business and an emphasis in supply chain management and international business. He went on to earn a master’s of business administration from BGSU in December of 2024. He is currently working on an undergraduate certificate in business at UK.

Afari, a senior inside linebacker from Cincinnati, has totaled 132 career tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, four quarterback hurries and two pass breakups in three seasons as a Wildcat.

He ranked third on the team in total tackles as a junior with 62 and led the team in tackles for loss with 11.0. He posted a career-high 10 tackles at Tennessee and vs. Louisville.

Afari, a member of the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll and Dean’s List, is on track to graduate in the Spring of 2026 with a degree in communication.

Kentucky opens its 2025 football season on Saturday, Aug. 30 in Kroger Field vs. Toledo.

2025 Reds

Spring training is underway, and the first game is just over a week away.

2024 was a disappointment, primarily due to injuries, a crap bullpen, and terrible game and roster management by David Bell. Despite all of those and an awful record, they still had a positive run differential, meaning there were several wins left on the table.

2025 brings another year of experience for the talented, but young roster, a much improved bullpen, the return of Matt McClain, a legit 5-man rotation, and perhaps most importantly the addition of Terry Francona. I think 90 wins and a wild card slot are on the table, and I don't think that's a hot take. ESPN ranks them as the most improved team in the MLB heading into the season.

Plus they have that one fast guy

Still not sure what the best way to watch them is. I think you can subscribe through the MLB network this season and get all of the games for $19.99/mo or $99.99/season. Think I'd rather do that than get Fubo again this summer. YouTubeTV is the far superior product, but doesn't have FanDuel Network (formerly Bally). Just not sure about blackouts on MLB network.

Joker level recruiting class

This class they're putting together has Joker written all over it. "Studs" are 5.6 and 5.7 RR level players. Over half are 5.5 or lower, and a handful are unranked all together. To add to it, a ton of people believe regardless of rankings, look at the teams you're beating out. I vividly remember Joker recruiting "wins" over Miami of Ohio, MTSU, Vandy, Indiana, etc. Look at the offer lists of most of this class and it's just plain as day to see.

I get the portal helps minimize HS recruiting's impact, but you can't build a stable future without solid recruiting classes. In 2011 our class finished 61st, in 2012 it finished 63rd, and we're currently ranked 75th. This is a disaster no matter how anyone tries to frame it.

In a new age of college basketball, Trent Noah is something of a throwback.

The former Harlan County all-stater had an interesting freshman season at Kentucky, playing in 24 of the Wildcats' 36 games and averaging 11 minutes of action as a key reserve off Mark Pope's bench.

And while his modest 2.7 scoring average had to be a shock to the system for a player who posted a gaudy 29.9 points per game as a prep senior, Noah did not ever consider the transfer portal. Many of his peers have, including former Kentucky "Mr. Basketball" and UK roommate Travis Perry, who departed Lexington for Ole Miss this spring.

Instead, Noah is playing the long game at his dream school.

"This is the greatest place on Earth, and I love coach Pope's vision for me," Noah said Monday at the Craft Center during the Wildcats' summer Q&A sessions.
"It's kinda still surreal to me that I get to wake up and put on Kentucky (gear). It's crazy, growing up watching it. I've been here 365 days, and it still feels like the very first time I put it on. It's special. It's like magic."

Global Climate Changes

An “unexpected” 14 degree drop in temperature between 2003 and 2018. Neptune’s 40 earth-year summer is confusing researchers. They expected a gradual increase in temperatures. Then, between 2018 and 2020, there was a raise by 20 degrees. This kind of polar warming has never been seen on Neptune until now. Neptune’s average temp is a chilly -340 degree Fahrenheit. Researchers still don’t know what is causing the temperature shifts.

Articles on another site: Marrow and Dane Key

Marrow's quotes are, quite honestly, embarrassing. 'We been knowing each other...', 'Me and him be ...', etc - just sounds uneducated. Maybe that's OK but struck me as disappointing.

Key stated that 'it was time for a change'. Mentioned 3 OCs and QBs in 3 years. But, he's playing at a completely different school with a different OC and QB at NB - how is that any better? Raiola will be better than Calzada, I'd bet, but it's still totally different. Not sure NB season will be much better than UK. Whatever.

BB Recruiting Live Period this weekend

Big high school camps going on across the country. Cody Fueger is in Phoenix at the Section 7. Lots of good underclassmen are there like Darius Wabbington who has heard from UK this week. Tajh Ariza is there as well as Toni Bryant out of Florida. He has heard quite a bit from the coaches, but they haven't offered yet. I'm sure there are several more they will be watching.
