Pope converted a HATER

His obvious and contagious passion for UK is what sold me on him. I knew he could coach offense, so I wasn't worried about that, but bringing in defensive-minded guys through the portal was really wise. So, bottom line, I'm all in on Mark Pope. And he's already had a bigger win than UK has had over the last 4 years in game 3.

What are the Dukies saying?

Not making an excuse for them at all, but Spalding's I hated with a passion in high school. Those and the Moltens were horrible for me as a shooter. When we played with Wilson's, which was most of the time, it was splash City.

Personally I wish I could get most of the posters on here to film themselves shooting 20 3s from anywhere and see whose the best shooter. Hell even bet on it.
Champions Classic 3-Point Shooting Stats:

Kentucky: 40% (10-25)
Kansas: 29% (5-17)
Duke: 17% (4-23)
Michigan State: 12% (3-24)

Kentucky, Duke, and Michigan State all use Nike basketballs. Kansas uses a Wilson basketball (Wilson balls are typically used in the NCAA Tournament).

Stats support your hate for the Spalding ball. Good thing Pope had the team practice with it leading up to the game.

As for your challenge, I'll go ahead and mark myself in the bottom quartile at age 48 and not in basketball shape. I'd be better off filming myself in a Nerf basketball dunking contest!

OT Paul v Iron Mike

It being scripted is my fear but why would Tyson work as hard as he has to get in shape. There is no need for him to work THAT hard for a gimmick.

He is looking pretty good in his workouts. We'll find out tonight.
It’s estimated that Tyson will will make at least $20 million …and possibly close to $40 million …off this shameless spectacle. The better shape Tyson looks like he is in the more people will be tempted to click it on Netflix tonight. And more views equals more money. THAT’s why it makes sense for him to get in shape for a gimmick.

Anyone who thinks this event is about anything other than Netflix, Jake Paul and Tyson making a shit pile of money off the gullible public is hopelessly naive.

Do we deserve this crap?

They are already saying, “it’s early, we aren’t even healthy.” “Wait until Aidoo is healthy, and later in the year.” “Cal always tweaks stuff and they get good in February.” I’m like you all sound just like we did before everyone finally woke up and got off the hype train.
Yep, I was guilty of those rationalizations when I was still sold on Cal. If those excuses were only necessary once or twice, maybe they would be valid. But we all know those excuses are always necessary with Calipari's teams. I don't understand the injuries, but there is no denying his teams struggle with injuries and I don't think it's just because he has "bad luck." And the need for "tweaks" is very familiar to UK fans, along with not knowing how to play a zone or how to attack a zone. Those are both coaching issues, not player issues. That's just the way Calipari operates and it's every season.

Jon Sumrall Watch

There have been top coordinators who have failed and succeeded, coaches from the G4 and FCS level who have succeeded and failed and even successful P4 coaches who have succeeded snd failed. There is no magic solution.

In recent years, G5 coaches who have transitioned to success at the P4 level:

Josh Heupel from UCF to UT
Kellen DeBoer from Fresno State to UW
Curt Cignetti from JMU to IU

There is nothing that says Sumrall is an automatic home run hire. He might not succeed at the P4 level, or he might kill it. I’d rather find that out with him doing it at UK than another P4 school because I think it’s worth the gamble.

Would agree there is no guarantee. I do believe we can see trends that are successful.

Also throw sark and kif in there as well.

I would say the common thread among the recent guys succeeding would be ability to recruit, develop, coach passing game, specifically QB obviously.

That’s not to say running and D aren’t a part of their success. It is to say even if you lean on run and it’s your strength if you don’t have a QB who can operate your offense and lead team you’re in a hole and it’s a hard fight out even if you’re decent to good in other aspects.

Kentucky is a title contender. According to Myron Medcalf

One of many title contenders. It's going to be a fun ncaa tournament and hoping UCONNs reign of terror is over.

And we have posters saying they are more excited about a big regular season win than the 2012 national title run or the 2014 or 2011 ncaa tourney runs or 38 and 0 start in 2015 and so on. Sorry, 100% disagree there.

Kentucky is a title contender. According to Myron Medcalf

I like it that more of the National media is starting to see it.
They have to after we dehorned the #6 Devils and Wonder Boy on a neutral court after trailing by double digits in the 2nd half.

I told you guys mths ago that this team should have been top 10 from the get.

Duke Game Observations

Chandler will be a huge asset in time, but he was not ready for this game.

-I'm a little concerned about Jaxson Robinson. I don't know that he is quick enough to take anyone off the dribble. So is he a spot up shooter and transition guy? How would you rate his defense in the Duke game? I thought he did a pretty decent job in the second half.

Neither of these guys have the handle to create their own. Thats their issue.

Chandler needs to spend all off-season on his handle, because it isnt very good at all. Hes going to be barely playable vs top competition. He cant even create his own against weak competition.
