… we watched the interesting, if not odd, agreement on the setup for the expanded CFP that rewarded conference champions with a pass instead of seeding all of the teams … with the thought by the SEC that it would still result in the league having several teams in the CFP … in addition the SEC decided to further expand the number of teams in the league with the quest for TV money … again, thinking multiple SEC teams would still have a shot at the title ….
…. what we have subsequently observed, I would argue predictably, is the SEC consuming itself (the bottom of the league competing with the top of the league) to the point where the number of teams in the CFP probably won’t be what the league was thinking when all of this was set in motion … bringing to question whether the power grab of conference expansion has been worth it … time will tell ……
… have mentioned this before, but with NIL and portal, we start to see more parity potential and records more akin to the NFL where teams beat up on one another … the difference being, the NFL allows far more teams to get in the playoffs compared to the CFP … in light of that, I think we see a strong push to re-do the CFP … I imagine this all won’t set well with the powers to be as all of this unfolds this year
