Why do people with kids pay less taxes?

Incentivizes having kids. We have or are heading for a lopsided aged society. The economy, tax base, social security are premised on balance in age groups. Tax breaks that impact the greater majority of tax payers are usually in place as incentives for behavior. Tax breaks that only impact the elite are often a manipulation of the system by the rich and powerful to help a few, the rich and powerful. See the Gallo death tax as an example. Both parties were paid to make that happen.

So you are saying we need more people on this planet? I disagree!!!

You asked why the breaks exist. Originally, it was growth of the population and to keep the family unit in place (joint filing), but Europe and the US will see a plateau in population growth and then a decline, if trends continue. The tax base is dependent upon working income producing people. There will be a tipping point.

Why do you care? You won’t be alive for the majority kids lives today. Someone has to pay taxes to care for your old ass in a nursing home…
I just posted this today. I thought you should have been paying more for your kids generations ago.

I will add that people who have kids are investing in our future. Future defenders. Future leaders. Future taxpayers. People who don’t have kids benefit. It’s not a crazy concept. We depend on community. People who perpetuate community for the future should arguably get a break for their added expense of making new citizens.

The funny part is people like you don’t realize that parents still pay more taxes on the whole even with the tax break. Kids need a lot of stuff, to be driven everywhere, etc. every penny I spend on them comes with a tax.

Theres a lot of literature out there on the declining population. It’s interesting. Seems to be happening in developed countries. America, China, Europe, Japan…I think the fastest growing populations are in Africa which is why the west and east have taken such an interest in that continent…they’re the new China.

China is in trouble…the ghosts of throw a baby girl in the river are coming home to roost and just as everyone thought they may take over the world, a big double whammy of aging population and not enough reproduction is going to stifle them. The globalist west that got suckered into the manifest destiny dream of China are going to feel it as availability of cheap labor and purchasing/consumption power start to taper off.

At first it seems like no big deal. Less people means less stress on all aspects of society. I think that’s probably true to some extent, but then you think about it long term and a steep enough decline is bad news.

From big macro level of just being able to throw some weight around on a global stage to less obvious things like not enough people in xyz industry to meet the demands.

Healthcare is a good example. As we saw the past couple years “health care system is overwhelmed“…regardless of the pandemic that was coming.

Same goes for police, teachers, construction workers, etc…

A steep enough population decline means fewer people to do all The things in society that need doing.

I get the points made here but you also pay for a fire department and police department even if you never use them. It’s a socialist part of our society and that’s okay.

This is like saying people that have yachts pay more in taxes because boats require lots of maintenance.

No, it’s really not. I’m simply saying people with kids generally pay more in taxes than those without. The yacht analogy is pretty ridiculous.

My investment accounts and passive income were growing at a much higher rate before I had a bunch of kids. I’d be paying FAR less tax with the same income pre children. Simple fact.

The question was why do people with children pay less. The simple answer is they don’t pay less. Also people having children is great for the economy as a whole and society. Someone getting work done on their boat are neither.

Yes but 10 ➗️ 2 equals more than 10 ➗️ by 3. The more to the right of the ➗️ sign, the more you should pay.

You can’t oversimplify like that. List the tax breaks you receive and let’s evaluate whether you deserve them…

Far more tax revenue is brought in by people with children, so incentivizing that behavior is in the gov’ts best interest. It’s not out of the goodness of their hearts…

Glenn when they start working (16+) they contribute to society and end up paying their fair share as well in the end - government is providing incentives as well as the numerous things parents provide kids adds to states sales/tax revenue etc and have to buy bigger houses to supplement the kids so they end up paying more in property taxes etc

How did kids impact your investment and passive income? And how would you pay less taxes? You get tax credits for having kids? Not sure I follow what you’re saying here. Diss the boat analogy all you want.

People without children subsidize people with children and it is unfair. You can justify it however you would like but it is not fair and deserves to be questioned.

Don't have the kids. Live in a smaller house. You need a bigger house for your kids than you pay for it. Please explain to me why the exact same house should cost me more if I don't have kids. Why do you "deserve" a tax break?

Maybe if your parents didn’t have tax breaks they couldn’t have afforded food/shelter/school for you to become what you have become?

Are you even considering that or just mad about tax laws?

Kind of odd to read people make these comments. Yeah, we all subsidize the future of our country. I am all for people not having or raising kids, but it ain’t all about you. For anyone counting on the social security, you best hope that the generations behind you are not tiny.

If my parents couldn't afford to have me then they shouldn't have had me. They shouldn't have been given incentive to have me.

But we already do pay into the future through our taxes. We just pay more, which for some of those of us without kids, is patently unfair. You just like it because it benefits you. I get it. I don’t because it penalizes me.

I don’t think it unfair and my kids are long grown and no longer under my care. I have never and may never need a fire department, but I don’t mind paying for those who do. If you don’t need social security, you must be very wealthy. If so, why are you complaining? If not, YOU need the next generations.

Or go cash and carry. Give me back 22% of my income and let me pay directly for the services I utilize. Flat tax for the very most basics that would be necessary but nothing past that.
You get all off the illegal (drugs) that way too.

While my house might catch on fire I am never going to have a kid that needs an education. I have been forced to pay into SS my entire life. It is my money. I have heard every one of the arguments you make and in the end there is no way for you to square that circle for me.

Really find it sad people are always arguing others should pay more tax. There is no greater waste of money than giving it to the gov’t so they can waste it. I’m all for anyone and everyone paying less. If someone in a similar situation to me pays less, congrats, and tell me how you did it.

The reality is it doesn’t matter if this or that group of people pay more tax, your life and no one else’s will improve because of it. Just another dollar wasted…

Yeah, you think it’s your money, but that is not reality. Reality requires the next generations to pay in for you to get yours. Welcome to the present.

They just do. Deal with it or vote someone in that will change things.

I am curious if the 2000 per child will stay after 2025 or whenever it is due to expire.
