What would Calipari have done with the Arkansas roster (plus Quaintance) at UK?

Minus Travon Brazile, of course. What would Cal have done with an experienced roster at Kentucky?

C - Quaintance - Aidoo
F - Big Z - Thiero
G - Davis - Knox
G - Wagner - Richmond - Perry
G - Fland - Wagner - Perry

That would have likely been the makeup of the Kentucky roster had Cal stayed.

Not gonna lie. That's a ton of talent. All five starters have draft potential, and Fland, Z, and Quaintance will probably be first round picks.

Thoughts?
He would have found a way to screw it up.

Like every other Cal season. Could be a really damn good team that could get to the FF or it could flame out early.

Also, we saw what Cal would do with an experienced roster when we had the likes of Oscar, Wheeler, Toppin...... we lose to a 15 seed.

Davis is a 40+% three point shooter. Fland will probably shoot somewhere North of 35%. He was a good shooter in high school. Knox is decent. Richmond and Wagner, not so much. Z obviously can shoot the ball if Cal utilizes him well.

Also, I think Cyril would have cut bait and run regardless. He wasn't expecting Big Z to come back. Brazile basically replaced Quaintance, not Cyril. Aidoo is probably still on the table if Cal returned to UK.
Thinking back, I doubt we get Davis.

Remember one reason Cal reportedly left was that he couldn’t get the money he needed at UK to pay for NIL because the boosters had basically cut him off from it, trying to force him out.

Davis went to the highest bidder, so he wasn’t coming here, IMHO.

Aidoo over Cyril is still maybe an option.

Maybe Cal gets someone else on the cheap to be his go to guy, but if he was still at UK, he probably rolls with Wagner, Fland, Knox, Richmond, and Perry rotating at the 1-3 with Quaintance, Aidoo (or Cyril), Thiero, and Ivisic at 4-5.

Look at Arkansas’ roster, he is perfectly content with 8-9 guys. He brought in a couple of practice players to fill out his roster. He wasn’t going to add many impact guys. He only wants 8-9 guys to work with.

Ark has only legit 9 players. They are a injury or 2 away from becoming as thin as it gets. When comes to Cal is ALWAYS seems he has a couple of 3 injured players throughout the year. I'm gonna predict at some point this season 2 major players are going to have to sit out 3 or so weeks and they will lose some of those games. Just look at his track record at UK it's happened about every year I don't see why this year will be any different. He just better hope nothing happens to Davis, Fland or Aidoo or it's gonna be a long season. Can you imagine him coming to Rupp with...

Pg- Wagner
Sg- Richmond
Sf- Knox
Pg- Thiero/Brazile
C. Z

That team has no shooting, passing, defense, no inside muscle. Game over for them. Even if one of those 3 are out it's gonna be hard for them. Don't get me started on the worst staff he's ever had in college.

Experienced roster? You seem to forget cal had 6 freshmen commited to play here next year. Fland, Richmond, Knox, Quaintance, somto, and Perry. Would have only added 4 more at most and 3 of the freshmen (Minimally) would have received the lions share of minutes. Not sure Davis or Aidoo is added and likely Theiro stays away. No clue why he ended up following cal to arky after entering the portal before cal even did. Either way that’s a poor roster that isn’t making much noise and likely a bubble team.

I agree.

Six Freshmen.

I’ll say Wagner, Thiero, and Ivisic return..

That’s 9 guys. Cal rolls with those guys.

G Wagner
G Fland/Perry
G Knox/Richmond
F Quaintance/Thiero
F Ivisic/Cyril

Some funny comments in this thread for sure.

So Thiero would have transferred from UK is Cal stayed, but he's willing to follow Cal to Arkansas? That makes zero sense.

Also, Cal would not have counted on Perry as a rotation piece. You guys declaring as much have ignored how Cal treats guys like Perry. Cal would have added Davis to this roster and found the NIL for him. There's no chance he would have counted on Perry to be the third guard in any rotation.

OK, now which players will be better coached to execute and offensive and defensive scheme, and which players will be on the floor by merit and ability as opposed to by promises?

There's no question that each individual player, regardless of whether they play for Arkansas or UK, would be better served playing in Pope's system.

He's the superior Xs and Os coach.

You guys think Jaxon Robinson is going to be your best player. I dont know much about your transfers but if any SEC team has Jaxon Robinson as their best player they are screwed bigly.

I don't really think that, but he might be.
That is why we will go ahead and find out by playing the games.
It is also true that Boogie might be your 4th best option and will still leave.
🐄 gonna 🐄.
Good luck.

No way to prove this in a hypothetical situation, but Cal doesn’t get Davis if he stays at UK. He would have gotten outbid. He might add someone else with a lower price tag, but he wasn’t getting Davis.

Good point about Perry, though we said the same thing about Sheppard, to a lesser degree, last offseason. He played a fair amount, so Perry might have as well.

Cal probably grabs a Reeves type guy from the portal (but not a Davis level guy) and keeps Perry off the floor, unless Perry ended up being Sheppard 2.0 (unlikely).

I just can’t see Cal getting Davis with his purse strings tied like they reportedly were at UK.

You guys are the ones who wanted Cal gone and now that he's gone you can't shut up about him but you expect people not to suspect that's because somewhere within you you know you were better off with him in Lexington than you are now with him in Fayetteville.
No rational person thinks like that. Cal should have been gone after 2015. He is a horrible coach. Never understood how he made it into the HOF.

Hahahahahahaha!
You'll be gone soon enough when he bends you over the hickory stump.
Raw dogged ain't what it's cracked up to be.
Best of luck.

Well, the guy he refused to start during the season went top 3 in the draft and was first team NBA Summer League, the next best player sat the bench when the team needed him most, and the sure bet to be a lottery pick (that didn't sniff the first round) was forced to start the entire season while he struggled to adapt, so I'd say the old coach would have screwed the pooch no matter where he was and who he had on the roster.

He can't remember any number of players past 7 or 8, and Robic isn't there to remind him.

Dude loves 7 footers, maybe he started Big Z. Whatever the line-up, it would have been about defense that he doesn't teach anymore. Positionless basketball nonsense. 3-4's would have been played out of position to be tall, per usual.

I can tell you haven’t seen him play since he was a freshman.

Arkansas is a shit program why are you here? We threw cals garbage ass out the door and he landed at ark by mistake not choice. Get ready for middle school coaching, if that. Can’t wait to see him burn you up on the way out either. You’re desperate,
Come back when Robinson drops 25 in Calipari.

Relax. Jaxon as Cal's best player wins like 17 games. People can't wrap their heads around that Cal isn't here anymore.

Yup, only a rational person thinks that a coach should have been fired after going 38-1. 🤡
No, after going 38-1 there isn't another coach who would say " we'll never do that again" regarding the platoon. We went right back to the short bench and the rock fights.
🐄 is the 🤡!
