Vandy - what should UK be working on?

Even after a big win and playing Georgia to a one point game, you just can't help yourself. Why bring your BS that is completely off topic in here when ADULTS are trying to discuss serious opinions ? If you hate him that much, cheer for Vandy, pretty sure we wouldn't miss your grade school opinions.
Give it a rest buddy. Your post here suck just about always. I am not a stoops fan and haven’t been for a long time. Obviously you haven’t been paying attention or you would have understood my post. I don’t like stoops but love the cats. I have been around way longer than you do don’t pull that adult crap with me. Go back and see what Mitch did two years ago when Vandy waxed us in Commonwealth. Grow up and just quit posting.

He's absolutely right. Your always doom and gloom and your lost again. This isn't rafters

That is the defense I hate to see. We are not good at prevent. We have had our success with pressure. If we lay back in zone it’s gonna be another Brad White special. A below average QB will pick us apart without pressure.
Brad white is a stud.

Fair enough. Right now, teams are 15-50 on third down and that's 9-33 vs SEC teams. And again, the biggest play of the year was pressure brought on a 4th down call that didn't work. History is a good indicator, but I'm starting to believe '23 (and just current talent/depth of this defense) is bringing change to Stoops/White.
We look a lot different this year. The defense seems to be playing well. I just don’t want to see that bend don’t break, back up prevent I’ve seen the last three years.
Some say our approach hasn’t changed. We are executing better. I say hogwash. White has upped his aggression. Asking guys to go make plays instead of don’t screw up.
Some disagree.

Brad has this team playing well. Maybe he trusts these guys more than some other teams he’s had. They look aggressive , not scared. He has also had some epic meltdowns. Tennessee has all but embarrassed him. I give credit where it is due.

Tennessee has embarrassed a lot of coaches (not tonight though haha). Every team has let downs as well. But whites D is consistently ranked pretty high and he will be a head coach sooner rather than later. It will be one of those situations where a lot of our fans won’t know what they had until it’s gone.

Unfortunately, a lot of our fans struggle with actual comprehension of the game.

There were dozens of posts and threads, hell maybe a hundred, last season and off-season, and this season, until the Ole Miss game complaining about our taking way too many shots down the field, “just to keep one player happy.”

After Barion’s 4th Down catch, a regular poster suggested we need to take more shots down the field to him.

OK.

Sure.

I like most all our coaches. I wouldn’t cry if Buffalo was replaced . I just don’t always agree with some things they do. I guess everyone is that way really.

Film room. There should be plenty of film out now on Vandys Online tendencies.
Vandy moves their Olinemen around every play depending on the play being called. It's a thing their Oline coach has always done wherever he's been.

Vandy's OC called a masterful game and his players executed perfectly, very well done. But DeBoer's DC cost him a NC at Washington last year, surprised he brought him to Alabama with him.
You would think that the talent level Alabama has on defense, you wouldn't need a genius as a DC, though. I'm guessing AL has >> UW at every position on defense. Really, really good players make coaches look good far more times than not. AL's DC did NOT have a good game and Jerry Kill outsmarted him the entire game. Brad White and staff better bring their A game on Saturday,

Bless their hearts. I know they are excited about football season after a long summer with no sports. But football is really just a stop gap for them until basketball starts. We do not have a knowledgeable football fanbase. We do have a knowledgeable basketball fanbase, but the entitlement due us in basketball cannot roll over into the football realm.

KMA. Get your head out of Stoops’s fat ass and you might understand we are going nowhere with him as coach. Just like your hero Cal who is no longer with us . Two coaches that suck. Like you.
LOL, you are calling everyone out who doesn't agree with your always doom and gloom. You are calling out several others, while no one is backing your stance. HMMM, looks like the majority agree with me, and you have nobody backing your point of view. I simply said NO MATTER WHAT, win or lose, your BS post are the SAME. You couldn't even refrain yourself after beating the #8 team on the road. You took a "L" big guy, now suck it up buttercup and take it like a man. Take the L and run along to let the adults discuss things with the program. Difference in us and you, we can be BOTH critical and positive when the time warrants it, you, not so much, all negative, all day, every day.
Don't believe me, just go back and review your last 10 post.

I am done with you, not going to get pull down to level. Pick another poster to argue with, your POV doesn't interest me, it not worth the time to try and debate with you.

It hasn't changed. It's still the same bend/not break philosophy. The difference is that we have guys are nearly all of the front 7 positions that can make plays. Guys like Walker, Ox, etc all have enough personal talent and enough talent around them to get through.

We had all those guys on the Dline last year and got zero pressure and zero havoc. This year they are everywhere????? Something has changed.
Either they are playing a lot better. Or they have been turned loose.

We barely blitzed vs ole miss. In fact one of the few times we did was 4th and 7 amd gave up a huge td.

Blitzing constantly is just not the answer unless you have a few extremely good man cbs. Hardly anyone in cfb has a roster like that

We had a good defense last year too. This year we have everyone back plus theyre older, plus we didn't lose silver early.

Plus our offense is possessing the ball without turnovers Last year it was either 3 and out or explosive td. Last year top was all because we snapped slow. Add in the constant turnovers that put the D always in bad spots.

Thats the difference.

But the guys on DL were a year younger......and we didn't have the LB's across the board.....and the 2ndary were pretty much underclassmen across the board. Now, if you want to say that the personnel this yr allows for a bit of freedom in the play calling, then yes, there is a little bit of difference I'm sure. But it's mostly just the personnel stars aligning.

It's also worth noting that most of the top teams employ the bend-not-break philosophy. Teams like Georgia/Bama do it.....they just have 5* talent backing up 5* talent.....so, it looks like what we have this yr.

Yea I’m not one of those that call for a lot of blitzes. Pressure from the edges are the best way to cause trouble.

Pavia is far from the best QB in the SEC better than Beck, Dart, etc ?. He is a good runner and effective passer. He is short and has trouble throwing for the pocket. Vandy rolls him a lot. He is very good runner, runs tough but not overly fast. If defense pays to the level they'd played the past 3 weeks we shouldn't have to many problems with him.

Pavia might not survive the Alabama game. He takes a lot of hits.

I would trade Beck for him in a second. Guy is probably too short for NFL, but he is a football player with elite leadership skills.

1. UK has a better defense than Alabama IMO.... And I'll argue UK run defense will match up better for sure

- Vandy is a heavier run team vs. pass team...so Walker, Silver and Rybka with DJack and Dumas Johnson behind them....UK is hard to run against. So UK needs to be disciplined on their option reads (which they usually are).
- UK is actually pretty good at this kind of pass rush....a controlled pass rush up the middle, stay disciplined in your rush lanes and keep Pavia in pocket and force him to throw over tall Dline

Brad White has had an impressive season of scheme...I think he's up for Vandy as well.

2. On offense, we need to control the LOS and hold the ball and keep TOs to zero or 1....can't give up possessions as their will be less possessions with two ball controls teams. I'd love to see some of those 4 yards runs turn into explosive runs (especially Wilcox) and gash Vandy. Also, Brock needs to hit some third down plays to Dane and stay on task to keep that rhythm in place with Dane.

I think UK wins 20-13 kind of score as Vandy is ripe for a letdown.

I remember I slammed him during the Ole Miss game thread, and 30 seconds after my post he makes the HUGE 4th down catch with additional YAC.

I’m all for giving him chances to make plays but Key is clearly our WR1.

As for the Vandy game, if our D controls the LOS we win relatively easily.

That's going to be fascinating to watch, then, because VU has been otherworldly on 3rd, especially versus Bama. Apparently part of the reason the quant models hate us so much is because such a high fraction of our successful plays last Saturday were converting 3rds. Here's an interesting deep dive from a Bama POV:

I suspect there are some implications of our offense that the quant models miss. And, I suspect that we're not anywhere near as good as we looked vs. Bama. Should be interesting.

But our team has been getting a more potent dosage of rat poison for one week, so.... maybe they cancel out?

I predicted UK 20-14 on our forum. Hope I'm wrong.
Well things have changed since I made that post, lol . Your Bama win weakened the “rat poison “ . But it also made me have legitimate concerns !

Bama's DC is Kane Wommack, he was at South Alabama last year as it's head coach.

Yeah, my bad on that but the Bama DC did an extremely poor job last week vs Vandy.

That he did, I know the head guy brought some Washington people with him, but can't remember who. Really sucks Bobo waits till we are down 28 it's before someone tells him the field is more than 5 yards deep. But Kirby's buddy, we are stuck with him i am afraid, he handcuffs us.

As a wr, barrion is probably our fourth best. Im glad he was part of that play, but brock is the one who should get the majority of praise. That throw was amazing. Kudos to brown for the timely nudge and bringing it in.

I hope that play energizes him. Hes an athlete athlete but just vastly underperforming as a wr. We need his potential to become realized.
