What NFL offensive system could UK run with the talent we're likely to get?

1. Shanahan system - seems like several teams run it
2. McVay - tried recruiting OL to play wide zone and we couldn't; several teams use it still
3. Andy Reid - not sure if it's any different from Shanahan
4. John Harbaugh (LJ) - have a smaller, quicker QB who can make midrange throws; not sure if it's an inside or outside zone system; a true RPO
5. Eagles system with a lot of RPO and controlled passing attack; their OL is top notch road graders which we've had in the past
6. Lions system - balanced, both wide and inside zone running game, spread the field in passing game, seem to have a lot of short throws to protect the QB and still pick up good yardage

I don't think we'll have much luck consistently landing the NFL prototype QB or linemen. So, a system that works with who we are able to land recruiting seems to be key. Personally, I think #4-6 would be within our power to achieve. A mobile QB would be key, but we wouldn't necessarily need the 6'-3", 220 lb guy like Lagway. A player like Pavia would fit our scheme and we'd have more opportunities to land a guy like that, imo.

We should honestly go back to the run game. Recruit road graders, speed and power backs. I mean, Stoops has shown he can't do offense. So lets go back to the basics. We could win 10 games again with a really good D.
So, sounds like Eagles or Ravens would be the closest to your comment. I think I agree. Seems like we can recruit best to that system (or have in the past) and don't necessarily need the 'ideal' NFL QB. Someone who is accurate to 15 yards and is mobile would be great in a system like that, imo. We need to concentrate on winning COLLEGE football games and not so much on running a pro system. NFL pros come from all levels of CFB and all systems.

Heavily agree on that last part.

You have to find an OC with an imagination and the ability to adapt. Everyone in the NFL is an elite athlete, so you are not going to get many physical mismatches because there just isn't many. What they have to look for is ways to get a S in single coverage of a WR or maybe a slot or RB 1 on 1 with a LB. So an NFL OC could take a college roster and find those mismatches and use those to scheme for next game.

Just recruit and pay 5 star bulldozers, and put Gran back at OC, get a 5 star punter and FG kicker….no more 2 million on a QB, spend the money in the trenches.

Which we've seen almost none of thus far with Hamdan. USC game was a textbook example of whatever they thought they could do on offense was obviously not going to work, but they did not have a Plan B that I could see. Same with Vanderbilt - ran effectively one series, then threw 3 straight passes. Threw to the middle/flat one series, then never again. The number of series this year so far that I've watched that made absolutely no sense whatsoever is staggering. And the number of individual plays (most of Wimsatt's, tbh) during any particular series that you scratch your head and wonder, 'What the heck is the OC thinking? What has he seen so far in this game that leads him to believe THAT play is the right call at this particular point in time?' is also a very large number. As limited as UK has been on offense, we cannot afford to throw away plays every single series. We have very little possibility of explosive plays for some reason, so every play HAS to make sense and either do well on its own or set up a different play later (or both). I just have not seen any of that this year.

Vols just paid QB money for their 5* OT. and Oregon just topped the vols and flipped a 2nd they had committed. Nike vs FlyingJ

I agree. We had the best fit at oc we could probably get. He didn't throw the ball enough. Fans weren't happy winning games and bowls running the ball and stoops caved to those vocal fans.

If stoops brought him back on field, the same people would revolt. Theyd rather lose watching us throw the ball every down.

This. We have to get the best guys we can and make the system work. Thats another reason why gran was perfect.

This season is almost over and bush still doesn't know our ID. Without any major injuries or reasons, we ran a few different versions of an offensive system when staying with the physical run worked for us early on.

This is what you have to do to be successful. If you give the QB time he should complete more passes.
I’m onboard with the Benny Snell teams, Ground and Pound you to death and nothing you can do about it. Just have to get the big uglies.

Read up on the Andy Reid system: roots are from the West Coast offense; he tailors the offense to his personnel's strengths; throw to set up the run; pretty basic on the run side but Reid is a HOF play caller - just always seems to know when to call what (having Mahomes helps a 'bit'). Even before drafting Mahomes, Reid had very good success with decidedly not HOF QBs and much of it was his feel for the game and making the right call. We can't duplicate his genius but the system might work for us.
