UK football and the December transfer portal

As I said in the other thread about him, UK wouldn't let him publicly commit if Allen was going to have problems qualifying to transfer and be eligible for 2024.
Would you like me to name examples of athletes brought in by UK who subsequently had/have eligibility issues? I imagine you will probably turn out to be right in this particular case, but I would not be shocked if there was a problem. Because of multiple transfers, he couldn't get eligible in 2023.

Who will be the next transfer portal addition? I just have a feeling another announcement by a WR could be imminent.

-trayanum just got crystall balled to uk, fwiw.
The CB pick is from Josh Edwards, a UK homer who has been known to get out over his skis with his CB picks. There is a good reason to be hopeful about Trayanum, and that is because we are his first and only campus visit so far. Our coaches seem to be focused on him. But if he holds off and takes other visits, all bets would be off. If it's going to happen, I imagine it would probably happen this week.

Vandagriff said in an interview he was recruiting Maclin hard. He's in very high demand, if we do get him might have to sweat out other visits.

Lo and behold, Trayanum just committed to UK. Good add for Coach Boulware and Coach Coen.

Six open scholarships left on our roster.

Maybe I missed this, but did Keaten Wade officially enter the portal like his brother ?

Let's goooooo, very successful portal season we've got going. Top replacements at QB, RB, and 1 WR so far. Guys from high power 5 programs who have top s&c and practice time against great competition. Need more reciever help.

No real hurtful exits, fingers crossed.

I saw that. But Destin tweeted his intention to transfer, but Keaten only re-tweeted his brothers. Didn’t tweet his own, just hopeful I guess.
When dad is in the media bad mouthing the previous starting QB and the coaches that played him, you can toss your hope out the window. Dude is gone. Bye.

Does anybody else feel like Rocket Sanders is better than Chip?
Apples and oranges.

Sanders battled a knee injury last year so health is a question.

Trayanum is a big, fast RB who has never been featured. OH St wanted to make a LB out of him.

The most important issue for us is that Trayanum is a Wildcat. It has been said that Sanders might be interested in SCar.

Wonder if we are on a coordinated Vince Marrow spread out the good news commitment cycle. Some of these guts committed around the same time but Vince/UK is making sure only 1 gets announced by themselves to get all the attention and news mentions.

Marques Cox and Courtland Ford will return in 2024 but Flax is gone after the bowl game.

The good news is that Malachi Wood had an excellent developmental season and Nik Hall's surgery went well. I will be surprised if Stoops doesn't snag at least one OT out of the portal.
Man if Nik Hall and Malachi Woods can pan out.....that could be a massive boost to the team's fortunes past 2024. Wood looked really good prospect in spring drill I went to.

Rumor circulating online this evening that Jordan Dingle may withdraw his name from the portal, like Porter just did. At this point, who knows? But if Dingle wants playing time, he should get that at UK. The injury was the limiting issue this year. If he wants to play with a headliner QB for a former NFL OC, he gets that at UK.
So your saying my chance of getting a photo Dingle and (Wilson)Berry standing next to each other on the sideline may return as a possibility?

Former Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George, current football coach at TN St, was just interviewed on TV. George says "kids are jumping into the portal for the bigger bag", a reference to players (like Justin Rogers) leaping into the portal for a bigger NIL deal. According to Coach George, players are "ruining their lives" by making money decisions before they understand how to manage money or organize their lives. Coach George predicts many players will suffer greatly for not learning how to be "grown men" before getting access to one large financial payment. He thinks associating with the right coaching staff that teaches responsibility and makes men out of teenage boys should be the players' priority. It was a longer discussion, very interesting. Very wise, intelligent gentleman.
We who have money tend to comment on how payment for services rendered is less important than the experience gained and other character building points. Coaches get paid big money to sell that to the players, so I would argue that if th ekids are leaving in droves, then the coaches have failed to get their message across convincingly.

"We who have money"? What's that about? I simply shared what the TN ST football coach said during a TV interview.

He is a graduate transfer, so immediately eligible with two years eligibility.

Yes and he has money, as do I and maybe even some others posting here. Those of us who have money can think about the importance of more esoteric ideas, but kids who came from nothing are more likely to want to grab a bag of cash.

You are missing the point. Eddie George has money now, because he was successful and because he managed his life well. But when he was growing up, he and his family did not have much. So he is sharing his experience and offering his guidance to young football players. He says they need to learn to be responsible men so they can manage their resources and organize their lives. It has absolutely nothing to do with you, me, or other posters. It has nothing to do with esoteric ideas. It is Eddie George recommending how other football players can build personal resources and avoid blowing it.

In my opinion, if Sanders is 100% healthy and in game shape, he’s the best back in the country next season and will help his team become better wherever that may be. Love Chip though and he’s right up there, just needs his chance to prove he’s great! He’s going to get that chance and more here next season.

I am very happy to have Trayanum aboard. I know some wanted Sanders, but I think Trayanum is every bit the hoss that Sanders is. And it seems Trayanum hasn't been hampered as much by injuries. Sanders and his weight gain/injury status is a bit worrisome. Last season when Sanders played at 225 lbs., he was a beast. This season playing at 242 lbs., he lost his explosiveness and was far more pedestrian. Meanwhile, Trayanum is 5-11/233, yet probably has a body fat of 8% or something crazy like that. If you've seen photos of him, it is apparent that he is nothing but lean muscle mass. Plugging a guy with his size, speed and skillset into an offense that will feature him will generate good things, IMO.

I know some are going to poo poo Trayanum because of his stats, but in the right system, I think he is capable of putting up just as many yards in a season as Sanders. Many Ohio State fans thought they should have utilized him more. I would not at all be surprised if at the end of next season Trayanum is at or above 1,000 yards rushing. And I expect him to have these kind of numbers even with Wilcox getting his expected amount of carries. This guy is very much cut from the same mold as Benny and C-Rod, but is faster!

Had my hopes that Dingle would cross-train as a long snapper, so a clever announced would have the opoortunity to say "Snapping the ball is Dingle, Berry back to punt" or something like that. Middle school humor and all.

I don't think the point he is making is esoteric. I think the coach's point, and it's a valid one, is that if you make a short-term decision based solely on money, it could very well cost you money in long run. That is especially true if you don't know how to manage money and blow through it all while at the same time hurting your career. It's true kids want as much money now as they can get, but to his point, that's not always the best decision for having the most money in the long run.
