Ugghh....Cal getting hammered on Twitter!

If anyone thinks this will influence recruiting they are insane. All he has to do is point to $$$ in terms of contracts and 2nd Contracts and stardom his former UK players have received. That cancels this out. I was critical of the Team USA Staff (Cal included but not solely to blame) for their approach to the Medal Round games as they went away from what was working and didn't make any adjustments when trailing. That is on his staff, and Cal did what you do as the Head Coach, take responsibility.

As for recruiting, if you can only land one of Barrett or Reddish, who do you take? I think Reddish is currently the #2 player in class behind Bagley. Minute Barrett officially re-classes he goes ahead of Reddish. I'd personally go all in on Barrett and say this as a huge fan of Reddish. I like Louis King and Quickley to be in class, and I'd move on from Langford. There are others who are better fits and again, I say this knowing Cal/UK likes Langford, but will be interested to see how this recruitment goes when they start live period this Wednesday. Guys I expect UK to go after hard: Bagley, Barrett, Reddish, King, Quickley, Bol, Brown, Williamson, and then some guys off radar now I think will emerge with offers or increased interest are Ayo Dusunmu, Nassir Little, Emmitt Williams, and I'd keep an eye on what Mitchell Robinson does tomorrow. If he doesn't report to WKU for 2nd Session, I wouldn't be shocked to see UK enter his recruitment. Not any info, just personal prediction and saw at Jordan Brand he had very good chemistry with UK recruits, not to mention he desperately wanted to get offer from UK but they were all in with Bamba.

I'd like debating this further but there is no way to defend my stance without people taking it and blowing it out of proportion . I say Cal deserves Criticism and people in their minds take it to mean I'm trashing Cal as bad coach. I say it will hurt recruiting and people take it to mean that we'll have a bad recruiting year. But I do respect you debating it rather than going straight to name calling and insults.

Historically, you're a good poster. I simply disagree on the recruiting impact, but it's nothing to motivate a massive-scale argument over. Time will tell, but if Cal can survive the platoon recruiting debacle (still ended up with the #1 class after all that negative stuff during that recruiting cycle), I'm not sure a loss to Canada will hurt him.

If anything, it put him in contact with Reddish, Quickley, and Langford. I think it helped more than it hurt.

If this had been any of the coaches on our hit list we would have been all over them.
It's not the end of the world, but it's not good either.

If we want to get right down to reality, there’s probably 500 to 1,000 anti-Calipari in the world who are mindful enough of the game to make it an issue. 5 or 6 of them might be in thea, catering to the 500 to 1,000 Cal haters who might click on a link.

The only thing that matters is if any of the recruits care. Haters will always be at the ready because Kentucky is the #1 program in the nation. It just comes with the territory.

My only question is this: how is this “not good?” Logically, how does this hurt Kentucky’s momentum?

Can you offer any reasonable answer to that question?

I'd be happy with either Barret or Reddish. It would be huge to keep the wing forward momentum going that we presently have. Either one of those guys would satisfy that.

Your point is taken, but do you really think this is going to resonate with a 17 year old. Coach K: Hey 5 star recruit do you really want to play at UK with Coach Cal, they lost to Canada? RECRUIT: Mercer and LeHigh says hello

True. It's hard to imagine a scenario where a coach uses this loss against UK on the recruiting end of it. Logically, what would they even say? Imagining different conversational strategies all run into the realm of the absurd.

There have been social media rumblings that Langford's family are very unhappy with his lack of playing time....so we could have conceivably really hurt our chances with him moving forward.

OP isn't mature enough to understand how jealousy works. When you're on top, everybody's waiting for you to stumble. Then they pounce. Look at who's pouncing. Goodman, Givony, some UK fans, rival fans. Nobody with one iota of common basketball sense cares. But the OP and others alike, lets it bother them. Weak minded individuals.
im not bashing Cal at All, in fact im JUST now hearing about this. I dont watch TV and i watch games streamed through Billionth.

Im not bashing i actually dont care but i also know blindly following someone when they fall in a ditch puts you in a ditch as well.

This is directed at the UK fans comments. Its ok to think for yourself.

Langford said he had back spasms. If he didn't and they are upset with his lack of playing time, then you wouldn't want him anyways. He played the most immature game on the team. He was Okogie like on offense (ball hog) and he didn't attempt to defend. I assume he was not lying and was injured so he gets a pass, but if they piss and moan, at least you can move along in recruiting and know not to bother. Personally, I'm not nor have I been as high on Langford as others. He's talented but falls into that category often referenced by UK staff of "your not going to get 25 FGA's a game here".

Well of course if Cal wasn't the head coach of team USA this wouldn't be a issue, Go Cats....Go Coach Cal....

The op is plenty mature. He is just telling the truth! I am sure Cal is getting hammered!

We have more than a few and any loss by Cal brings them out in droves.

Yeppp. It's rather absurd. They same negative Nancy's, don't seem to be around often when things are going well, or we have some awesome good news .

That being said - things are pretty much going "well" or "great " (with maybe an exception or two ) the last 10 years .

Yeah it does matter........ its not life is over type matter but it definitely is we're going to be f*cking annoyed by haters for a year now type of matter. and for Cal...... this will hurt in recruiting... bank on it.
Zero chance it hurts recruiting. Now Coach K losing to an SEC baseball school in the second round with 5 players taken in the draft- now that could hurt recruiting.

Who said he wasn't getting hammered? My point is, who gives a rats arse and why let it bother you? Only immature people allow people to get in their head.
I doubt the op lost any sleep over it. He started the thread to get discussion going and I would say it worked. Wouldn't you!

It's not good because USA basketball has been dominating Intl play for many years. Cal has wanted a chance to coach one of their teams and he got it and it didn't work out too well.
It won't hurt recruiting but it will shine a negative light on Cal and fuel his haters and will give them plenty to bash him with.

Yeah but would you rather have the #1 recruiting class with Reddish and Bol Bol or the #1 recruiting class with Reid and King? its just a hypothetical scenario to show that not all #1 classes are created equal.

Yeah and despite which pair/ "type of #1 class we get " (lol ) it will have nothing to do with losing to Canada lol.

Never thought I'd see the day where peeps can say "wellllll we have the #1 recruiting class but it's not like the BEST #1 recruiting class... Bc ... ermmm..."

And seriously. Why is this (I know I've commented. A couple times ) a 4 plus page thread ??

People are being SO friggin dramatic . "It will shine a negative light on Cal for yearssssss to come!! People
Will hate on cal and make hashtags on twitter !l"

Rolling my F'ng eyes.

Sure , some criticism is ok, or "man I wish cal would
Have done this or that " but vilifying him and acting as if this is some like mic drop "omg " event is absolutely ridiculous and absurd.

Seriously insanely ridiculous.

Pretty much my sentiments. We've got this crowd of people waiting for something bad to happen so that they can get on the internet and cry obsessively about it.

I agree we'll still have the #1 recruiting class..........but if this resonates with Reddish and along with other factors chooses Duke... then that in turn hurt recruiting did it not? Even if its just one of many factors ... it still had some small effect which I used the term hurt.. which is technically correct but some seem to act as if I was saying it was going to majorly damage recruiting...

PS I'm just using Reddish as an example because he's one of the best players we are after. Its sad I have to make this claim because someone will try and twist it into me saying we're going to lose Reddish to Duke or something just to bash me.
High school players pick different colleges for all kinds of reasons. That has always been, and always will be true. There is not a single must-get player for Calipari in this class, but he needs to sign a balanced class with possibly 4-5 long skilled guys who can handle and run the floor. Reddish certainly fits that description to the hilt, but some others do as well. I know Crystal Ball is predicting Duke for Reddish, but Crystal Ball also predicted Duke for Andrew Wiggins, Jamal Murray, Quade Green, Mohamed Bamba, Matt Coleman. Crystal Ball is an entertainment item for people interested in that kind of thing.

USA has won it twice in something like the last 9 times wouldn't call that domination

Why people take the Crystal Ball for more than what it is ---> which is a "fun" GUESS that changes 769 times ... is beyond me

Cal's not a stellar X's and O's coach. I don't know why people defend him on that issue. But what he lacks in that category he more than makes up by recruiting phenomenal talent. I'm happy to have him, hope he stays for several more years but I realize he has to have great players (and he always does) to overcome his shortcomings. Can't have your cake and eat it too. He should have never lost that game but it happens. This won't affect the future of UK basketball and hopefully we'll be talented enough to hang another banner or two before he's gone.

Yea the crystal ball did not predict Duke for Wiggins, Murray, or Coleman. Only for a brief time did Duke lead for Green. The best example would be Knox.

Duke insiders seem confident with Reddish (more so than with Knox but less so than guys like Carter and Trent) but they also acknowledge the time spent with Cal this summer could affect things.

He did pretty good at Memphis and Umass without a a team full of five / six (plus) 5 stars on the team. Yes he had camby, rose etc ... but nothing nothing like the teams he's fielding now

I don't think cal is a genius X' and O' coach but I def think he's above average.

Yeah I def see what you're saying but the Crystal ball got Wiggins , murray and Coleman wrong (whether it was the crystal ball prediction doooook or not )

So people not wanting Cal to make the same mistakes irritates you? why because people say Cal can make a mistake?

No, I found that "hope he learns" coming from a pretty well recognized nut case to be humorous. The irritating part is the obvious attempt to gloss over your sport's starved criticism so to appear as if you're just a well meaning fan.

Hell, you historically don't like the man so quit being so limp wristed about it.

Historically dont like the man? Resorting to lies now are you? thats sad and low

I can pull up several posts defending the man and talking him up if you wish for me to do so?

This is so stupid. The only thing it hurts is his chances of coaching team USA in the future. Absolutely no bearing on UK at allllll

I find it funny that two people are saying that I "historically dont like Cal" ........... and then completely forget the thousands of times I went to battle against Cut nets and his anti Cal agenda. or Zaytoven. or the hundreds of rival poser trolls.

So is it forgetfulness or just out right nasty lies in order to try and win an argument? hmmmmm

This will not hurt recruiting, UK , or anything like that. The only thing it possibly does is hurt Cal's chance at getting the Olympic spot.
Cal and UK got far more out of this though. Cal got to get a head start with Diallo and PJ. Also, got great interaction with recruits.
Nothing bad from this on those fronts.

Barrett is clearly the best player in the world that's 19 or under. Cal lost because this team couldn't stop the next great player. It happens.

Not so fast. The best U19 players in the world got drafted the other day into the NBA. He may be the best 17yo however.

Name me a coach that wins without great players. Also, what is your definition of a great player? Cal won at Memphis and UMASS. He had some good players, but he wasn't exactly knocking it out of the park on the recruiting trail. Nobody has won at those schools since Cal left.
