The most annoying people in Rupp Arena.

Guess you are a sit-on-your hands kinda guy. Do you listen/watch the games normally in your church pew? Sounds like the living room of any other true Cat fan I have ever known. Or any bar with the game on and three Cat fans watching. I didn't here a word negative about the Cats.
I got into a fight in Indianapolis in '97 with a rich New Yorker (described as such only based on that damn accent) who thought I was wrong to be screaming at that moron Pitino. It was disturbing his popcorn eating or something. You sound a bit like him. He had no dog in the hunt. He didn't care about the game, he was there to socialize. Not me. These people are correctly bitching about the refs. Someone has to. Good for them. Sorry for you. Maybe tennis?

Sit on my hands? Not at all. I get into the games but I am respectful of the people around me. Are you one of the people in the audio?

Right. So he pulls his phone out and secretly records a couple cheering "inappropriately" as to run back to rafters and start this thread.

to me, that's far more disturbing than some couple cheering obnoxiously during a UK game.

At least you're in agreement they are obnoxious.

It wasn't a covert operation. I had my phone out (still in my hand after a timeout mind you, just so I don't get accused of checking facebook while the game is going on), thought to myself, "this would be a good time to show how annoying this couple is all the time," and held it in my hand for a couple of minutes. It's not like I planted a bug in their popcorn.

Lots of fans are obnoxious during games. It doesn't bother me a bit. I'm not some educated do gooder who looks down on people.

And I'm sorry. Did you tell these people you wanted to record their actions? Of course not. You secretly recorded them thinking it would be hilarious to run back to the board and post the experience. Equipped with a nice drawing and all. If their actions are obnoxious, yours are totally immature.

I don't agree with you. We will leave it there.

'Respectful'? You secretly recorded two people on your cell, did your best to identify them on a national website, because you didn't like the way they watched a basketball game. You think you are respectful? Do you tape your neighbors having sex? Or do they not make noise?

It's not like I took video of them in their living room through their window. Rupp is a VERY public setting if you haven't noticed. If you're going to act like an idiot with all those people around, I think you've given up some aspect of privacy.

But I value your opinion.

The only idiot you might have described is maybe you. Why in the world would you secretly record someone at Rupp? Do you really not get it? Do your friends know that anything they say to you is probably being recorded? Are you really so petty that when some does something that you don't like, you feel the need to record it and publish it? Are you the Behavior Police? Why try so hard to publicly belittle fellow Cat fans?

[laughing]

You have 1 of 2 options as I see it. Continue your crusade of attempting to right all the wrongs in the world 1 post at a time, or put me on ignore so you don't see my idiocy on display.

How could you possibly know if they're "correctly" bitching when you can't even see what they're bitching about?

I'm guessin his neighbors don't have sex in Rupp Arena surrounded by thousands of others. If they did, they'd deserve to get taped.

There's always folks who seem to have trouble grasping the basic public/private legal distinction when these discussions come up. If someone records you misbehavin in a private location that's on them, but if they do it in a public location that's entirely on YOU.

And, sorry, but there's no expectation of privacy in Rupp Arena, nearly anything you do in the Rupp stands is fair game to get recorded and shown to the world. If you can't watch a basketball game without behaving in a way you wouldn't want others to see then perhaps you'd be best served staying home and watching on TV.

I was in 217 Wednesday and heard him scream about the pick thing. Yeah, it can get grating when someone's screaming something derogatory at either the ref or either players. Similar thing happened to me at the Auburn game in football.

I love going to the SEC bb tournament for that reason. Great atmosphere! Great fans there! Everybody up and down cheering on the team - even when the guys are ahead. Nobody yelling for you to "sit down" (unless you count fans of other schools). Lots of fun memories of people high fiveing and talking to each other after good plays made and folks interacting as if they were old friends - just for the love of the game. Oh, and crowd noise when great defense is played, not just good offense. I have been to games at Rupp and the SEC tourneys multiple times. I prefer the SEC tournament or even, opposing team's bb gyms because the fans are louder and more engaged in the games.jmo

I'm glad someone besides me thought it was a little creepy recording that. Hope that guy never goes to a little league baseball game. He'll need the 64 gig version of the iPhone to record the nonsense going on there.

Folks behave all sorts of ways at sporting events. If one isn't prepared to experience that, the perhaps TV is your best bet.

I don't know about the most annoying but the most disgusting is the dancing idiot that they for some warped reason feel the need to show on tv every game.
If he wants to dance that's fine but a stop should be put to him sliding down that rail! I mean come on, people have to put their hand on that rail...

He's had to have lost all feeling in his nuts after sliding down the rail so many times. That crap looks painful.

I really like the sketch artist. He/she captured the nature of to UK fans taking in a game. I'm sure the local police department could use the assistance of this future Van Gogh.

I've had season tickets for about 12 years now. I've been to the SEC tournament many times, Maui, New York, Chicago and Tennessee. That these people stick out as the worst to me should tell you something.

Again. Public place, wasn't peering through their windows. Sorry if not everyone can comprehend it. I guess I should have taken video of the banners or something and let them just be obnoxious in the background.

Just creepy dude. Each to their own I guess.

Trouble grasping the basic public/private legal distinction? You think this guy briefed constitutional protections before he hit 'record'? He could care less about any legal distinction, and no one suggested any penalty. The problem with too many lawyers is that they get in their head that what you CAN do is the same as what you SHOULD do. No one talked about 'reasonable expectations of privacy' except you. It's why you had that Ethics multi-state on the Kentucky Bar Exam.

The issue is was he an asshole for recording people secretly, attempting to identify them individually and then posting that recording on the internet because he didn't like their behavior (which was completely proper in my view) at a public athletic event in order to belittle them? The answer is 'hell yeah'.

Just to add to this, there is more than one state considering laws to require releases from everyone in a crowd before they can be recorded by a drone. Movies have had to contend with this problem for years. Redistribution, as was done in this thread further complicates the matter.

And it's really creepy.

Meh. I tone it down in public places, but if you were to hear me in my living room, one would think I was insane, psychotic, and possibly possessed by the devil. (My cat would go and hide under the bed. ha!) I can see where one might find it annoying and it comes off as negativity, but It's just passion. I bet outside of a game, those are genuinely nice people. I also find the predictable stereotypes being bandied about on here over that woman's accent, more indicative of a nasty disposition, than anything they said.

Pro-recording.

Act like a jackass in public and deal with the ramifications.

I went to the EKU game and was frankly embarrassed by some of the UK fans that I saw. Quite of few weirdos and degenerates got in. Must be because they played EKU or something.

Good UK fans "get" basketball and don't need to act like uneducated hilljacks at the game. These fans sounded like the ones I've heard before say "our coloreds are better than their coloreds". I couldn't believe it when I heard it

There was a rather annoying guy who sits in one of the corners that is always trying to get people to stand up or raise their hands on every free throw. We just happened to have tickets there but had to move at halftime. The people that gave us the tickets mentioned him before we went to the game and I was ya ya whatever no problem but then got there and was like dang!!!

Ha! He isn't there all the time, but man has he been persistent this year.

"Put your hands up! Hands up! Everybody hands up!" (This is while we are shooting FTs, by the way.)

"Gimme a C"
"Gimme a A"
"Gimme a T"
"Gimme a S"
"What's that spell?"
"Make some noise!"

I actually love his enthusiasm, but he just needs to try something a little different every now and then.

I'd rather have him than the people who appear to be falling asleep. But he does get annoying.

Sounds like at least one got in. Put the bucket back on your head.

I could have identified them individually if I wanted to, but I didn't and I won't. Anyone remotely near that area can hear them and from the looks I see, they're all thinking roughly the same thing. You can hear exactly the same thing in Rupp as you can from the audio. I don't have a problem with posting it all to hear.
