State of 2025 Recruiting

Rees
Faulkner
Johns
Hamden
Gino
Gran
Morehead
Good grief remove Gran. He got fired bc of recruiting and not developing the pass game. The two things we need to be looking for here he was terrible at. Respect what he did and the man he is but the program has grown and the sports has changed completely too. Ball control won’t work anymore.

Good list

Only CFB coaches from now on, no more NFL!
Interesting.... I think there are a few NFL OC's who like to allow the QB to have to option to take off on the run when needed. Seems like last year, leary didn't.. Not sure if he was told to use his arm only and not the legs, or that he just was slow... I like when a QB can use his legs as a weapon. Unsure if that is what you meant or from a diff view.

I doubt the OC search will move that fast. After 5 OC changes in 5 years, I expect Stoops will be more careful with this one unless a situation he can't refuse just falls into his lap. This is a good solid recruiting class and I have no doubt Coach Marrow is busting his butt to hold it together. The guys who signed in December are unlikely to leave, and Vandagriff has already said he is staying. But we have to be concerned about Stone Saunders.

I think he's already been working on this and, because he's more ready, will move faster. We probably need to be less harsh in our criticism of Coen here and everywhere because so many of our recruits have a relationship with him.

I have been searching for information about who is attending junior day at UK. So far this looks mainly like a KY-OH event but with a few other important visitors too.

Mason Alexander, DB, Fishers, IN
Javeon Campbell, DL, Frankfort, KY
Martels Carter, DB, Paducah, KY
Aveion Chenault, WR, Lexington, KY
Jayden Clark, OL, Clayton, OH
Marquise Davis, RB, Cleveland, OH
Iose Epenesa, LB, Edwardsville, IL
Ja'Kayden Ferguson, WR, Missouri City, TX
Dawayne Galloway, DB, Columbus, OH
Rafael Greene, OL, Cincinnati, OH
Justin Hill, LB, Cincinnati, OH
Eugene Hilton, slotR, Zionsville, IN
Bo Jackson, RB, Cleveland, OH
Tucker Kattus, OL, Cincinnati, OH
Andrew Marsh, WR, Fulshear, TX
Cameron Miller, DB, Atco, NJ
Montavin Quisenberry, slotR, Danville, KY
Stone Saunders, QB, Harrisburg, PA
Quintin Simmons, WR, Cincinnati, OH
Isaac Sowells, OL, Louisville, KY
Darrin Strey, OL, Paw Paw, MI
Brennen Ward, QB, Columbus, OH
Think we lead for Ward. Is that correct? Believe Jackson visited GA instead of us? Like the recruitment of the 5th best center Sowells.

Javeon Campbell out of Western Hills High School has been offered. Currently rated as the 42nd best Edge from 247, but has only played one year of high school football (2023). Had 14.5 sacks. UofL, WVU, Notre Dame has offered him.

This guy is raw but a real monster. Plays angry and really runs well. Hope UK can get him.

Quintin Simmons, 4* WR out of Cincy, commits to UK

Yes. It is no surprise that WR Quintin Simmons from Cincinnati has committed to UK. He becomes the second public commitment to our 2025 class. Previously on this thread, we have discussed the likelihood that Simmons and several other 2025 Cincinnati area prospects would eventually commit to UK. A couple more announcements between now and spring practice would not surprise me.

For those who are wondering how this can happen now, Simmons has been leaning to UK for a long time. On his recent visit to UK for junior day. Simmons hit it off with Coach Shorts.

Does this mean Coach Stoops was able to privately tell Simmons who UK's next OC will be? IDK. Stoops probably briefed Simmons on the status of the search and Simmons was obviously satisfied with what Stoops told him. Also, if rumors of Stone Saunders attending junior day are accurate, then Saunders would have influenced Simmons' decision as well.

As of right now, do you see us as the leader for Isaac Sowells from Louisville ?

Maybe, maybe not. No way to know, and I don't think it matters much. He is likely not an impact prospect at the SEC level although certainly not a weak prospect. Like many hs linemen, his body will have to be reworked. And he lacks ideal length, regardless of what some websites may have implied.

BTW, if we are wondering about 2025 instate prospects, a far more consequential question is whether UK can sign Austin Alexander, Martels Carter, and Javeon Campbell.

Sowells has two SEC offers and his recruitment seems to be coming down to UK and UL. Sowells is being recruited as a C because he isn't long enough to play the other OL positions in an SEC offense. I think he is quick enough and smart enough to play C, but UK is already set at C with Koby Keenum and possibly Aba Selm, both of whom are longer and more athletic than Sowells. Sowells' father played in the NFL, so the pedigree is a quality one. But he just isn't a very long athlete. In fact, I would almost rather see if he could be developed as a NT because of his strong base.

Alexander also holds two SEC offers, but also six B10, six ACC offers, plus ND and Stanford. Alexander has legitimate length and athleticism to play on the edge in an SEC defense and is a nephew of Shaun Alexander.

Carter is as highly recruited FS prospect with nine SEC offers plus MI, FL St, Clemson, and SoCal.

Campbell has only been playing football for a couple of years but already has an offer from ND plus three B10 and two SEC offers.
More Power 5 offers will come because Campbell has ideal size and length for an SEC DE plus excellent athleticism.

Again, thanks for all of your hard work.

Wolf was said to be in detroit recruiting yeaterday. Him and Marrow were gomna visit some of the Cincy area OL this week. He has sent out some major offers to some guys he was recruiting. One was the #1 OT in the class. Not that he can get a guy like that to UK but he is atleast trying
“Not that he can get a guy like that to UK !”

I’m not trying to make this about you brother but things like this get my blood boiling! Should we just look at the rankings and automatically go to the three hundred line to start recruiting? Again, not pointing your way here, but to everyone who actually thinks this way. Kentucky has just as much chance at becoming the place everyone wants to play as Clemson did ten or so years ago when they took off to what they are now. I honestly think Our program is a sleeping giant and we’re close. We need to start going after the best players available every year no matter what someone ranks them or who else may be going after them. The only way Kentucky Football ever makes a big jump in talent is to go after the best players. If we ever want to change our program we must do some things we haven’t done before! It starts with believing in this program across the board. From fans to the head men in charge, everyone has to actually believe we can do better. If not, we’ll continue with the same results. Thanks

According to a Kristian Dyer article with Rutgers sports four star Cameron Miller cut his list to five and we made the cut with Michigan and three others. He dropped Georgia, Penn St and another big school can't remember to get to the five he is focusing on. Also, another 4 star corner Dawayne Galloway is being recruited by Marrow and is listed as warm with us. A MI ST article said that Georgia, Penn St and MI I believe had offered him last year. So maybe a possibility of three 4 star DB's with safety Carter also a good possibility.

I hope we hit the Cincy area hard as long as Satterfield is at Cincy. He's going to drag that program down a couple of notches. I have to think it's a less appealing program than it was before he arrived.

The 2025 football class in the Cincinnati area is strong, and Coach Marrow is hitting it hard. There has been some prior discussion of this, if you have an interest in scrolling back to it. When I get time, I will review some of the names again because it's interesting stuff and some more of these guys besides Simmons will end up in our 2025 class.

Rembrandt90 or anyone. Care to guess who our new OC will be ? Any names floating around that you have heard ?

Former Georgia staffer, Faulkner will have tons of deep south recruiting contacts and familiarity with our terrain

If he is the hire, very very dramatic increase in recruiting ability upgrades at O line coach and OC/QB coach this offseason. Def an increase in coaching abilities at O line. If Faulkner is the man we'll have to see this Fall how he is Xs and Os.

What states does he have recruiting ties too? This is the first I’ve seen mentioned of his recruiting ability yet.

He had several years in Georgia, Mississippi, Arkansas. At UGA he was confined to on campus recruiting, but kids like him. At Tech where he could hit the road time is being spent trying to repair the damage Paul Johnson did to the relationships between Georgia HS coaches and Tech, he made every last one dislike Tech. So a little unfair to count that.

I don't care to guess because Stoops never hires the most discussed candidates. So it doesn't matter what names float around. As several have already posted, Faulkner's name has been getting a lot of buzz. But everytime Stoops makes a hire, several names receive public buzz and then Stoops hires someone else. Here is the caveat. If an agreement with Faulkner has already been reached privately and leaked, then this rumor could mean something. Not until then. Otherwise, none of us has a clue who it will be. Faulkner would be a reasonable candidate but there are many others too.

With regard to the question about his recruiting ties, Failkner has connections around the south. The only question would be how much overlap exists between GA Tech's catchment in the south and UK's. Certain prospects in the state of GA have been recruited by both staffs. In general, though, UK and GA Tech are not going after the same level of prospects all around the south because UK is an SEC program, and GA Tech is more heavily focused on recruiting instate and inside a smaller radius from their campus. Faulkner was on staff at GA briefly but was not an off-campus recruiter there. You never get a perfect match. Any staff additional requires certain projections and adjustments.

That was the case under Paul Johnson, good athletes wanted no part of that option offense because it didn't prepare them for a chance at the NFL. That changed with Collins and Key. Key is an alumni and as intense as anyone. For the first time in years we have been going against Tech gor instate guys. But to think they aren't trying to recruit the best players around is naive. Kids like Faulkner, even confined to on campus recruiting kids talked about him. He has been an on the road guy previously but not a P5 school. His offense was much tougher to handle than Coen's.

Two things that I have seen that point to Faulkner. Brady James that has inside connections that Stoops was pursuing Faulkner. The next day JR confirmed it with his sources. JRs guy with Rivals GT that UK had def reached out but at that point it seemed like he didn’t want to make the move. We know that the players have been told a little of what the plan was to keep them satisfied. The WR from aTm tweeted about UK going to the spread and Faulkner they say runs the spread. It may not happen but he def seems to be at the top of the list

Well thought-out, informative post, as always. My thoughts. Nearly everyone is running a form of the spread offense, so that doesn't tell me anything. But JR usually knows what he is talking about. Having a plan, such as pursuing a particular candidate, is one thing. I'm sure Coach Stoops has a plan, and he is smart to share that plan with our players. (You and I would.) For one thing, you don't want to lose key offensive players through the spring portal. For another, you want to continue to attract good prospects, such as we just got with Simmons.

When prospects visit, players host them and talk with them. Prospects see the confidence of the players. So you want the players to know.

But pursuing a candidate and signing the candidate are different things, which is why Stoops no doubt has back up options. The thing is, we seldom know about a hire until at least a week or two after the handshake. For one thing, the school waits to post the opening under the state rule. For another, all the explicit details of the contract need to be worked out and agreed on. The lawyer stuff always takes a little more time.

Anyway, in the fullness of time, I have learned from experience that predicting a Stoops hire is usually futile. But if it is Faulkner, we could do a lot worse. I just hope he gets the job done and sticks around. We have been lucky to maintain continuity with Marrow and White, and we need it with our OC as well.

I suggested yesterday this would be a good time to review the list of 2025 Cincinnati area players with UK offers. All of these players are being recruited by Coach Marrow. The numbers are staggering, and it goes to show how important the Cincinnati area has become as a core UK recruiting territory. Without a doubt, a group of these players will sign in UK's class. A handful are already considered UK leans. Naturally, IDK if this list is complete or not, but here are the names I know about now.

Sam Afari, DB, W Chester (Alex's brother)
Austin Alexander, LB, Union, KY
Grant Beerman, LB, W Chester
KJ Brown, LB, Cincinnati
Keenan Brown, LB, Monroe
Erik Gayle, LB, Cincinnati
Luka Gilbert, TE, W Chester

Micah Rice DB, Cincinnati
Quintin Simmons, slotR, Cincinnati (UK commit)
Tayvon Smith, LB, Cincinnati

We are in the lead for some of those guys. Brody Lennon another guy we offered February 6th from Ohio. Our roster will be loaded with Ohio guys when this class comes in.

A reminder that the ridiculous job posting thingy ends Mon, Feb 12(guess it can be renewed) and if the past is any clue that tells me Stoops has SOMEBODY pretty much lined up. Question becomes...is it Faulkner or someone else? That we don't know but would agree, the A&M WR drops a pretty good hint.

Carter said he has a 'strong feeling' with one school after he was here for JR days. Speculation he could commit soon.

I think so. Five members of our coaching staff are from Youngstown. Thirteen scholarship players on our 2024 roster are from OH. That number could increase significantly for 2025. Coach Marrow recruits OH and has been our most productive recruiter.
