State of 2023 Recruiting

This could be interesting to follow. TTU’s new coach was basically hired as a known TX recruiting ace with deep connections all around the state and this is a Texas kid.
He is talking about the Godfrey commit not making an offer

He know more than us but unless they have that guy flipped the comment doesn't make since
What? The post I responded to is regarding UK offering a TTU commit. That’s why I responded about TTU. Will be interesting to see if UK can make headway with him given TTU coach’s recruiting prowess is what I’m saying.

I am not surprised that Grant Godfrey has committed to UK, but I am surprised it happened this soon. This is a major recruiting victory for UK assistant coach Chris Collins. Godfrey is a 6'3" 215# edge LB from Suwanee, GA. His father Randall Godfrey was an SEC star at GA and played in the NFL for 12 years. Godfrey reportedly holds at least 7 SEC offers.

This is UK's first commitment in the 2023 class from the state of GA. Probably won't be the last.

UK's current 2023 recruiting class-

Nasir Addison, ATH, Invington, NJ
Anthony Brown, slotR, Springfield, OH
Ty Bryant, DB, Lexington, KY
Jakob Dixon, WR, Louisville, KY
Grant Godfrey, LB, Suwanee, GA
Koby Keenum, OL, Florence, AL
Khalifa Keith, RB/LB, Birmingham, AL
Tanner Lemaster, TE, Washington CH, OH
Kaden Moorman, RB, Frankfort, KY
Shamar Porter, WR, Nashville, TN
Austin Ramsey, OL, Philadelphia, PA
Avery Stuart, DB, Montgomery, AL
Malachi Wood, OL, Richmond, KY
Tommy Ziesmer, LB, Danville, KY

Those who were worried about the quality of UK's 2023 class can probably relax a little bit. So far, the class is a nice mix of highly regarded prospects and discoveries from UK's June camps in Lexington. Porter, Brown, Stuart, and Godfrey look like future stars. Our coaches are still recruiting promising uncommitted prospects like Arvell Reese, Kendrick Gilbert, Stanquan Clark, Naquil Betrand, Devin Hyatt, William Spencer, Jeremiah Collins, Kenton Kirkland, Tavion Gadson, and Jaremiah Anglin. Some of these players will end up in UK's class. Class rankings might not reflect it yet, but this class is turning out well.

My only concern with Godfrey is if UGA comes calling.

Also Cats have thrived in the trenches. Need some more beef in this class.

I clicked on the wrong one I was talking about Vince's comment, that UK is still recruiting on a high level. It doesn't make since unless that guy is flipping. How does offering a guy equal high level recruiting? Getting those guys equals high level recruiting

UGA is putting to together one of the best LB classes they have had. They won't be a problem there

To a certain point, I might agree. However, as I said earlier, I am surprised by how quickly Godfrey made this decision. For some young players, this might suggest haste. But Godfrey comes from a family of football players. So I think this represents conviction. If Godfrey wanted to go to GA, I think he would have waited on Kirby Smart. Under the circumstances, though, I think Godfrey committed to UK because his mind is made up. He really likes Chris Collins and has known Coach Collins for a long time.

Our OL class is well on the way to a good result. Wood, Ramsey, and Keenum are good football players with SEC bodies. They can still add OG William Spencer if his grades make the cut. Naquil Betrand will commit soon. While I don't expect him to pick UK, it's still possible that he might.

Unlike a lot of other people, I don't expect Tommy Ziesmer to be developed as a defensive lineman. Ziesmer has a LB body type. But UK is still recruiting Will Norman, Tavion Gadson, and Kendrick Gilbert. I doubt we can actually sign Norman. But we have a good shot with Gilbert and Gadson. If we don't get them, Stoops can expand his DL recruiting scope in the fall.

I’m tickled to death with this class. We’ve got kids who want to work hard and have a lot of talent. I have no clue why people want to worry and complain about or class in may/June. Lol. Craziness. Anyway, thanks again for your work here, most of us truly do appreciate you bud. I really can’t wait to see how this class ends up. We’re really getting some good guys at positions of need and that’s what it’s all about in my book. Also, in my opinion, it doesn’t matter what number a kid is ranked before he comes here, it’s what he does while he’s here. Numbers are great to see on paper, 10 win seasons (looking for more coming soon) at Kentucky is exciting to watch! I’m loving every minute of this staff moving on up like George and Wizzie. Haha. Go Cats.

With the portal, I've reached the point where team ranking doesn't mean near as much to me as average player rating, whether it's star average or some other quality measure. I mean Levis doesn't show up on any UK term ranking. And the portal also affects the class size and thus ranking.

Is there room on the roster for us to pick up a late transfer during fall camp? Just wondering. Once the depth charts sort themselves out, some good players may be looking to transfer...

Agree. 4-6 players transferring out each year because of lack of pt and are replaced by transfers coming in has a major impact on overall roster strength. This is especially true if incoming transfers are major contributors. (Levis and Robinson’s contribution make their respective classes much stronger.)

UK picked up a couple CBs today for Kenton Kirkland. FSU says we out bid them. 😂. Also Jaremiah Anglin commits this weekend. 😉

if we can pull both of those guys, we will have beat out FSU for 3 DBs in Stuart, Kirkland, and Anglin, I'd say that's pretty impressive
Norvell better get his act together or this will be his last year at FSU. If he gets fired their next coach could come back after these three (if we get them).

Every time firing Norvell comes up people say FSU doesn’t have the money. I don’t know if that’s true or not but he’s a bum and taking them no where.

I don't think UK is going to get Jaremiah Anglin, but if we can get Kirkland and Betrand in the near future. I will be absolutely stoked. I still feel like Betrand will go to A&M, but Rowland said today on Twitter he's sticking with his pick to UK. So we'll see.

I think they can afford to not take a big dline class because they have a lot of young talented guys with a ton of eligibility left. I think they get Gilbert then another guy to go along with Ziesmer and then look to next year.

I don't know. Rogers, Ox and Hayes are all Juniors and the uncertainty of Quentel Jones. Is he on campus? He's on the official roster.

Apparently, he is the one Stoops was referring to in his Media Day presser

Bud Elliott said UK is overpaying for them. Lol. One poster said the FSU boards were going crazy about it
Lol you gotta love it. If we were paying players, surely we would've got a player like Ja'Keem Jackson, but we're not. That's just an excuse for them to lick their wounds of losing recruits to "little old" Kentucky.

FSU saying the same we did about Knoxville and Conyers. NIL is crazy, but I doubt it is crazy where there are bidding wars for 3* dbs. Who knows what the truth is, however we are doing with Kirkland hope we keep it up.

Speaking of d line, let's get the IMG kid who wants to visit.

Over the next several days, at least three UK recruiting targets will probably announce commitments.

Naquil Betrand- 6'7" 310# OT from Philadelphia whose stock is rising. Scott Woodward and Zach Yenser are recruiting him for the good guys. He holds at least 4 SEC offers. This is probably boiling down to TX A&M, UK, Syracure, and possibly Auburn. Right now, conventional wisdom is that he will pick TX A&M, where he visited unofficially on July 30. If he doesn't pick TX A&M, then UK has a good chance.

Kenton Kirkland- 6'1" 185# DB from Jacksonville. Chris Collins is recruiting him for UK. He holds at least 6 SEC offers, including FL and GA. Until recently, conventional wisdom held that he was FL St bound. Now he is widely expected to verbal to UK. Even some of the FL St insiders are projecting him to UK. Besides football, Kirkland is also a hs track star. His uncle Ephesians Bartley was an all SEC player at FL and played in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jaremiah Anglin- 6'1" 185# DB from Lake Wales, FL, where he is a two-sport star at Lake Wales hs. Mike Stoops and Chris Collins are recruiting him for UK. He holds at least 5 SEC offers including FL and AL. Like Kirkland, Anglin was once believed to be FL St bound. But some FL St insiders are now projecting him to UK. Anglin is a cousin of Derwin James, a former NFL 1st round draft choice.

Think we get both Kirkland and Anglin, which could complete a great DB haul this class!
