My guess is that Cal does things like this for these kids to curry favors with coaches and handlers.
This is pretty much my view on it too. I literally do NOT CARE how our coach feels about anything. He could be liberal, conservative, gay, straight, Buddhist, Jewish, Islam, atheist, purple, black, green, fat, skinny, etc……I give zero shits. He can lie, cheat, and steal (just don’t get caught you bastard). I don’t care. He can talk down his nose at me and I don’t care because I don’t need his validation. He could flip me off like Rick did and I don’t care. Same with the players. I don’t care if they love or hate this state and I don’t care if they don’t respect our storied tradition. It’s always a nice bonus if they do and most of them do. But I just need them to WIN. When they took a knee at florida last year I could have done without it but my biggest takeaway was that we won the game.
All these guys have literally one job. To entertain me. To win games and bring me joy. They are dancing bears, nothing else. I’m return for their athletic feats they receive a free education and an opportunity to make NIL money. I think it’s a fair wage for a job well done. At the end of the day this is entertainment. A lot of people make it seem bigger than it is. Kentucky basketball is romantic to a lot of our fans and your hearts are nostalgic. Hero-worship and all that
my support of Cal hinges entirely on my confidence in him to win games here. I still feel that he’s our best option, and that’s good because he’s basically un-fireable. He’s an Italian from Philly and I’m from SE ky. I have no affirmation for him as a person. If Clyde had won games he’d still be here and he was a major asshole so I guess it all works out for assholes in the end. A lot of our fans are unfair towards cal because they’ve become bored with him as a person. I do believe he deserves better than a lot of y’all give him and one day you will miss him. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
The coach and these players owe us fans nothing. They provide a service and are paid well for it. No one is over-payed in America. It’s a free and open market and whatever you get paid is what you deserve since you were able to get it. Good on ya. Of you think any of these people owe you anything then you are drowning in entitlement
I’m actually pro cheating and not getting caught lol drop them bag !This is pretty much my view on it too. I literally do NOT CARE how our coach feels about anything. Who caresDoesn't matter, he kept that info from the public for a reason. He's shady and deceitful.
What plays out every year is if a kid is a first round draft pick and eligible for the draft he leaves. People that think a top five pick in next years draft is staying here, or that Cal would allow him to stay is absolutely insane to me.Please enlighten me on how “this plays out every year,” considering the situation with Sharpe will be only the second such situation in Cal’s tenure.
I hope he plays because I think the team needs what he can bring. I’m not worried about being right or wrong.I really, really hope he plays now, just so we can look back on this thread with the appreciation that it deserves. LOL!
I'll answer a couple of those questions .. if. he refuses to play in any game , in any scenario ( please dont even even compare to Allen not going in for 54 seconds) then YES .. he should be shown the door . Its simply setting a precedent . You dont come here and get our facilities and our NIL deals and take a spot that could have went to a kid really wanting to play here if you wont take the court .He could transfer at the end of the year. Immediately eligible. Play at that school in 2022-23.
Now, I know you have already concluded that he is going to the draft because he is draft eligible, but just because he is draft eligible doesn’t mean he goes into the draft.
While it is unlikely he comes back, it is a possibility.
Regardless, what would be the purpose of kicking him off the team at this point?
Is it to show him who is boss? Is it to force his hand? I just do not understand why he has to go if he doesn’t play? Is it a matter of principle for you?
Sorry, my friend that I just don’t get your outrage over this. Is it taking food out of your mouth or something? Do you have eligibility remaining and Sharpe is taking your scholarship?
I just can’t see your point of view.
So, God bless and Go Big Blue!
Hopefully we can agree on that.
could you imagine what those signature UK championship shoes would be worthMatt Jones from KSR let slip but quickly dismissed that Sharpe was going to be the first college basketball player to sign a major shoe deal next season and play College Basketball.
That'll show 'em. 😜I really, really hope he plays now, just so we can look back on this thread with the appreciation that it deserves. LOL!
38 pages!!I really, really hope he plays now, just so we can look back on this thread with the appreciation that it deserves. LOL!
So that's what UK basketball has become? Hope these NBA potential guys figure it out instead of playing legit college basketball players that can win?Cal thought the ceiling for Askew was higher than the ceiling for Allen. Period. That's all it was.
HIgher rated recruits get a longer rope. Because even if they stink as freshman, there's always the chance they follow the normal curve and eventually figure it out. Just sometimes that takes longer than one year.
We've had a number of people not do well when they first came here only to figure it out later in the season of year 2 in say Washington's case.
It doesn't look like Askew figured it out at Texas. But that still doesn't change the fact that he had a higher chance of figuring it out than Allen (who also did not figure it out) did.
You've been told multiple times, why are you playing dumb?Again, you have not given anything of substance to say who else should have received Askew's minutes and replace his responsibilities of bringing the ball up the court and initiating the offense? Allen can't do that as we all see now based on his play this year why that argument doesn't hold any water.
Well, he recruited a high school junior to run pg at UK last year, so yeah, he can be critisized. You morons can bash Cal on some things but recruiting isn’t one of them. Stupid take but not surprising.
So, what's the difference between this team and any other team Cal has had. What's the main difference?FWIW look at this team right now. We are playing some good basketball.
Maybe.......just maybe Cal was correct about Allen's usage in this team.
Mintz has really turned it around.
Yeah, but you're contributing a lot to the 'sad'You know..........we have such a passionate fanbase as evidence by this 34 page thread.
But in a way it's kind of sad.
I mean we have a huge game coming up. On the road. Vs the second best team in America.
I get this is big news and needs talked about but man.......I don't know. Huge game and we are talking about someone that may or may not play a min for us.
The 4 best teams of the Cal era where led by freshman so I dont see where your going with that if that is your point. So, what's the difference between this team and any other team Cal has had. What's the main difference?
For someone that doesn't give a fvck, and Calls this board a soap opera, you sure do contribute a lot to it. I mean, why don't you just log off if it’s so awful and you don't care?Guess what if we are winning which we currently are then IDGAF now if all this came out last year during this time I’d be piss but guess what it didn’t.
Winning cures everything that’s all I care about. Give zero ****s what cal says or does about the current situation…we are winning and that’s all that matters to me.
They were helped by having veterans. 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2017 all had veterans mixed with highly talented freshmen. The 4 best teams of the Cal era where led by freshman so I dont see where your going with that if that is your point.
First round pick freshmen. You either get transcendent players, or you get juniors and seniors. You can't build your foundation with mud.The 4 best teams of the Cal era where led by freshman so I dont see where your going with that if that is your point.
They were, but they were still really all OAD teams in essence, the main contributors on those teams where all freshman. We have actually never had teams with all freshman leading the charge outside of maybe the SGA team. Even last year had guys like Sarr and Keion. They were helped by having veterans. 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2017 all had veterans mixed with highly talented freshmen.
Ok... but you trying to use this specific team as evidence to show the change is a slippery slope. The only reason it was able to happen was because of the transfer portal rule opening up to us having Oscar and Shavir. How do you want Cal to recruit? Personally I want him to recruit the best players whether that be in the transfer portal or from high school. Sure, hes been missing the cream of the crop recently, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't go after the next group of guys just because they aren't "transcendant".First round pick freshmen. You either get transcendent players, or you get juniors and seniors. You can't build your foundation with mud.
The game changed in recent years. Michigan and Memphis have young studs for a foundation, look what’s happening. Look what happened to us last year.
Don't even try to defend it, you'll look even worse than you already do.
The action in this thread rivals the best soap opera on tv. WWE should hire their writers from here, **** All My Children.
This is awkward, you've made negative comments about all of us posters that have been saying the same thing.Biggest backlash for Cal will be not making the Final Four in 2022. That will be SEVEN years. I'm pulling for UK to make it, but if he goes SEVEN years without a Final Four while getting paid almost 10 million dollars a year it's going to get hard pretending he's worth it.
Nice try but that's NOT WHAT YOU SAID.He could transfer at the end of the year. Immediately eligible. Play at that school in 2022-23.

Hopefully we can agree on that.
You will recall that there is a thread probably on page 2 saying if Cal doesn't play Sharpe this season he should be fired. So yes, I stand by that; however, I now do not believe Cal ever had any intention of playing Sharpe at all.I really, really hope he plays now, just so we can look back on this thread with the appreciation that it deserves. LOL!
Yeah, but you're contributing a lot to the 'sad'
God bless you brother. I hope you have a great life. Don’t talk to me anymore, if you are going to call me names.Nice try but that's NOT WHAT YOU SAID.
YOU SAID that running him off the team for NOT PLAYING would put him on ANOTHER TEAM, and I'm asking you SO EFFING WHAT, if he's not playing either way then what does it matter.
My God you're dense.
So that's what UK basketball has become? Hope these NBA potential guys figure it out instead of playing legit college basketball players that can win?
Johnny Juzang sat behind Whitney, how'd that work out? How did Skal work out? How did Boston and Askew work out?
Boston and Askew cost us any chance we had at winning games last year and Askew was still supposed to he in HS. If you're going to do this, you should be able to see a high school junior shouldn't be reclassing to run point at UK. What a bad decision that was.
Then, he doubled down and played him 35mpg until it was way too late to save the season. Then he moved Davion to point, something he should have done in November.
Oh yeah, it was COVID's fault. Riiiight.
It was the culture's fault honestly. The culture is why Hagans, JJ, EJ and Richards all left.
Just run a traditional program. As we can clearly see, it works.
Ive noticed that guy takes things a little hard here and resorts to stuff like that. Hope everything at home is OK for him if hes getting that bent on a message board.God bless you brother. I hope you have a great life. Don’t talk to me anymore, if you are going to call me names.
Passive aggressive. Your victim card is overdrawn.God bless you brother. I hope you have a great life. Don’t talk to me anymore, if you are going to call me names.
We won the title because there was an NBA lockout and 3 players returned that probably wouldn't have. Why would we want Cal to not get the top guy?
We literally won our title in 2012 BECAUSE we got the top guy lol.
We haven't been good the last few years because while we have recruited some pretty good players, we've missed out on the top guy.
We won the title because there was an NBA lockout and 3 players returned that probably wouldn't have.
2012 doesn't win a title if Lamb, Miller and especially Jones don't come back.
I dont get it because no one here has clamored for a roster with literally all freshman as key contributors, and Cal has never had a team in his tenure here like that except maybe the SGA team.We don't win without a certain Anthony Davis either.
I dont get it because no one here has clamored for a roster with literally all freshman as key contributors, and Cal has never had a team in his tenure here like that except maybe the SGA team.
The only way where you could be up in arms with Cal about that situation is if he literally recruited Sharpe 100% knowing that he would never play for us. And if you really believe that then it is clear that you have an agenda against Cal.This board is so odd at times.
On one hand people are like we want to see Sharpe this season. It takes us from very good to great.
On the other hand people (the same ones sometimes) say oh we never should have went after this Sharpe guy because now it looks likely he might not play.
1) He still might play.
2) If we didn't recruit him, the odds of him playing for us would have been...........Zero.
We've had issues going after the wrong 5 star guys. By all accounts, that's not Sharpe tho. You don't not take the number 1 recruit in the land. Period.
