It is completely and totally fair to be pissed off about Sharpe not playing. I will be if thats what happens. However, what makes absolutely no sense at all if you ACTUALLY CARE about UK's success is to STILL be pissed off at Cal even he has a successful season. There is no way to spin that argument other than: you care more about your disagreements with Cal's decisions and how he runs the program than you do about the program's success.
I care about the integrity of the program. As much or more than wins.

Terrence Jones is the only player in the history of Cal to come back who probably shouldn’t have/didn’t need to. Based off that, he’s 100% gone. Convincing him to play this year is the only way to put this fire out.

And you guys believe Calipari was duped? I can’t believe you guys actually believe this. I know you’re a UK fan I don’t question that, but the blind loyalty to Calipari needs to come into question.

Nothing happens at this program without Calipari knowing about it, and signing off on it. He’s the GM, AD, and coach. It’s his show, Sharpe and his posse cannot dupe John Calipari. You guys need to accept that.
Some are as delusional as Louisville fans believing Pitino didn’t know about prostitutes.

I’m gonna def assume based on this he’s playing this year. If he can go draft next year and he’s lottery he should go that’s just in his best interest whether any of us like it or not.

If this kid leaves for the NBA after leaving high school early, only practicing with UK for a month or so, can make a ton of money with the NIL, can get drafted in the top 10-15, who can blame him? It is the system we have now called "college basketball".
Players in both football and basketball are using the NCAA like some free agency in pro sports. Come get your NIL, leave high school early, practice with the team and get drafted. What a system we have.
What is really a joke is how the NCAA and schools refer to these kids as "student-athletes".

Will we ever have see another players jersey hung in the rafters? Does anyone still care about tradition? Does anyone besides me miss Senior Night where they sing MY Old Kentucky Home and everyone is crying?
College sports is all about business and players making money. UK basketball is just a tool for players to use to benefit themselves. It is not just UK basketball being done this way; it is all over in both major sports.

I had a conversation with my wife over the weekend about maybe selling all my UK memorabilia. She was stunned at first. I like to think I have a very nice collection of stuff from the 40's thru nowadays. Not shit you buy in some Walmart or Fanatics store on the internet. When she asked me why would I think this I told her that my idea of leaving all this to my two daughters for my grandkids does not mean as much now; that kids today do not understand UK basketball like I do and have the love we have for it. It is all flash and sparkle now.

When I watch Wheeler play I remember days watching guys like Dicky Beal; small, fast, and just love playing. Wheeler knows he will never see the NBA and is enjoying playing in college. TyTy is really good. Super glad he is playing for UK but honestly, will he ever be remembered in 10 years from now like we remember old UK players?
If this Sharpe kid plays, OK, just another nail in the coffin of what used to be college basketball. Will anyone really consider him a UK player if he leaves this year? So why get all upset? It is what we have these days.

If this works out for the kid, odds are there will be others to follow. I can't put all the blame of Coach Cal. He is only doing what others are doing these days.
It is a business not a sport anymore.
No matter what, I will cheer my Cats on whomever they are. Just don't see much new stuff being added to my collection unless we win a National Championship.
Excellent post Old Blue .. thanks for decades of UK support . It was bittersweet reading it . I think of so many players who literally bled blue . Too many to list ... but SOME of this new breed of players are nothing more than human leeches. Listen Mr Sharpe may not be that . All he has to do is push Cal to play him , and play him soon because that guy isnt coming back next season .. its basically now or never . Play or run his ass off. And Cal has that power . . Just Do It as the ole saying goes ..

However Old Chinese Proverb should be noted , goes back to at least 334 BC " Never trust man named Shaydawn"

I’m sure UK didn’t want it out. I’ve thought all along his intention was to condition with the team, make some NIL money, and enter this years draft without playing a game for UK.
It is what it is and I’m not very happy about it.
We have a pretty good team and hopefully we finish strong.

I am rather sick of Cal allowing these kids to use us as a pitstop. He can stop it real easy by going to Sharpe and saying you play the next game or pack your bags. We have enough cheerleaders!

Pisses me off that Oscar is out there working his ass off and can’t make NIL money while we got a kid that won’t play and is making NIL money!!
I’m sure our NIL sponsors giving damn Porsches to these kids love the idea that they might see 0 minutes played by the guy they invested in.

A great precedent to set early in the NIL era. If you hire a Kentucky player, they might play, they might not. Is it worth the risk?

Going to the NBA Draft: the money anywhere in the lottery is nice, and the big money is getting your early years done as quickly as possible and then getting a big deal. Shaedon would be insane to pass up being the 6th pick to play a year of college ball.

So you think Cal took Sharpe knowing that there was a 100% he wouldnt play?

So Gromcat doesn't like Cal?

That's fine but quit acting like you speak for the fanbase.

I can’t find UK fans anywhere who don’t agree and aren’t sick of this. Only a few on this board.

I like Calipari, always have. I’m a UK fan, always have been.

He’s predicted to go #6 in this year’s draft. He would be crazy to step foot on the court for UK this season or come back for next season. He is GONE.

Cal convinced him to enroll right now to get some publicity for UK and the kid. Hate it that we won’t have him next season, but this is where we are with college basketball and Cal.
Publicity??

But you may have given a NIL deal to the next Kevin Durant. A small chance to take in the grand scheme of things.

So you think Cal took Sharpe knowing that there was a 100% he wouldnt play?

There’s a very good chance of that, yes. Several reasons to do it in Cals mind. For one, he views himself as some leader of NBA players but K has punked him on the recruiting trail. Calipari definitely needs something for the ego. Him not playing doesn’t change that Cal still LANDED him. For Calipari and his NBA Godfather routine, that’s enough.

For recruiting, Calipari might think even though he probably won’t play, it can help with future recruiting.

Calipari is always recruiting. Everything he does is for recruiting. He’s not a basketball coach he’s a recruiter.

This is not hard if you are objective and not looking to curve shit for Calipari.

I'd bet he is willing to play. Cal is the one who has to pull the trigger and give the kid a chance. No way in hell he can do any worse than Wheeler did last night.

The really sucky part about this is now every game he doesn’t play we will get an Allenesque thread. I’m really looking forward to that for the next two and months that’s for sure.

Cal needs to tell him to play now or gtfo and go home.
I'm fine if Sharpe wants to go to the NBA. It sucks we are going to lose out on a generational player but at least give back the Porsche and go train like Mitchell Robinson until may.

How can you tell someone to be objective, and then say there is a very good chance that Cal recruited Sharpe 100% knowing he would never play lmao.

Call your man and tell him to play his ass then. I don’t care if he sucks or not. Just get on the court for the name on the front of the jersey.

Also, "the results are in: all the people I talk to totally and completely agree with me. Therefore, you hold the minority opinion." Really objective, galaxy brain stuff

Wow, this thread really went super sonic nuclear fast since I posted on it...no way I am reading through all this lol. I think all of us are just angry and frustrated...not right for Sharpe to come in and use UK for NIL money and then leave without playing (if it happens).

I have always said he is going to make the team better so play him Calipari...no reason not to. There was also talk that Sharpe wanted to go in the last few minutes of UT blowout and Cal declined to put him in...so that gives me some hope he wants to help the team win and to play. It needs to happen because he is gone after this season and anyone arguing otherwise is crazy.

Hope the therapy is going well. My mother in law is dealing with it as well.
Thanks. Today was my first day of PT. My therapist could easily pass as everyone’s favorite grandma. Sweet as sugar. All we did today was remove the sling and do some short, gentle range of motion stuff — chicken wing and tomahawk chop, maybe 6 inches in each direction. She couldn’t have been more gentle, but I was ready to punch her a couple times lol. It’s gonna be a process. Good luck to your MIL.

Pay attention. You are fully in a minority you just aren’t bright enough to see it.

These are FACTS.
If he’s eligible for the draft and he’s a lottery pick he will not be back. Cal will basically not let him back. Hasn’t this always been the case?
So the only questions are is he for sure eligible for the draft? And does he play this year?
If he’s eligible and doesn’t play this season he will never play here.
