He opted out because of the covid opt outs that everybody was doing. Find me a guy from one of those programs who enrolled early, had their trainer say he was adamantly only at UK to learn and get better for next year, then leave for the draft.

I'm going to take Sharpe at his word in that he will be back but since hes here and can play right now then use him.If hes that damn good then use him.My gut tells me the same thing it did back when he announced he was coming to UK early....get that NIL money and never play a game here....prove me wrong is all I ask...please prove me wrong.

If the kid doesn't step onto the court either this season or next I can understand the frustration.

Well, my post centered on whether Cal knew Sharpe intended to play. He either knew or he was duped. Neither option is a good look. I highly doubt Cal wasn’t in the know when he was recruiting the kid because I guarantee he talked in-depth with not only Sharpe but also his “handlers”. And like I said, the biggest issue is who we probably lost out on by signing Sharpe. If he ends up playing it isn’t an issue, if he leaves without ever taking the floor the backlash will be massive and deserved.
Good luck. It’s never happened to anyone. And hence really couldn’t be predicted.
I guess you didn't really follow that drama because that is definitely not what happened and its not "what everybody was doing." His draft stock was taking a hit, he was butting heads with K and the staff, etc. He picked himself over the team.
The scenario you're describing hasn't happened at other programs as far as I'm aware, just like it hasn't happened at UK. You can take it as fact that its going to happen but the rest of us don't have to.
That was all due to covid. It was just a weird year all the way around.

I’m not sure anyone other than fans that already hate Cal, are mad about this. Why aren’t they mad at the NBA? They’re the ones allowing him to enter the draft.
Cal has been the same way this entire tenure. He's always pushed the players first attitude the moment he walked through those doors.
If anything the fact that we haven't been to a final four last 6 years is the very reason you DO take a chance on recruiting Sharpe.

It's not just about politics. I'm as liberal as they come about most issues, but I can't stand the guy. I don't give a shit what his politics are.
It doesn’t matter. Calipari wouldn’t do it because Calipari is in on this. There’s no way Calipari doesn’t know what’s going on. He wanted to bring him in because he can’t pull kids like that anymore and he wants to try and turn his luck.
Coach K and the like would have never taken Sharpe if he wasn’t going to play. Calipari would. That’s why one of them has 5 titles and the other has 1. You can’t win titles in college basketball playing with one arm tied behind your back.

Cal’s love and commitment to the program is amazing. I respect how he handles the legacy and the former coaches and how he uses the program for great causes (disaster relief, for example). Tremendous ambassador.
It’s just that he thought in 2010 and thinks today that you prioritize player interests FIRST, promote that philosophy FIRST, prioritize draft status and potential, and shrug off situations like Whitney and Sharpe because it still serves as a means to an end. My question is who leaked this story today? According to the Ben Robert’s article he is eligible because he had the necessary credits to be a high school graduate before the NBA season, even though he didn’t officially “graduate” before the end of the season. This seems like a detail very few people would be able to completely confirm. I don’t think Cal/UK wanted the headache this story caused. I also don’t think Shaedon’s camp wanted it out to have people hate him for a few months. Interesting nevertheless.
