Seriously Who would be your first choice for a coach?

We have the best coach in the country and he’s not going anywhere. So it’s a moot point.

Cal is far better than Pitino. But it wouldn’t bother me if he came back.

No way on Beard. Not only is he a scumbag, he hasn’t won anything.

Pope would be interesting. But he hasn’t won anything either.

Hurley wouldn’t last one season here.

If Cal left I would show a blank check to Frank Vogel.

But anyone that comes here I would support until they showed they don’t deserve support.

I supported the hell out of Tubby, the worst coach ever at UK, until he showed he didn’t deserve support. About 2 seasons.

Even then I still wanted him to win.

That’s where I have a problem with the CHC. They want UK to lose.

I have a couple friends that are not high on Cal. We argue it all the time. But they live and die with UK basketball. They want UK to win. Regardless of the coach.

You see it here. We have supposed UK fans that love losses so they they can bust on Cal. It’s sickening.
Calling Tubby the worst coach ever at Kentucky is truly insane. He won a title for God sakes.

Frank Vogel.

A few years ago I would have said Dwane Casey but Cal didn’t move on and age has eliminated Dwane.

Frank Vogel.

Most of the great ones are old but would Rick Pitino come in for 3/4 years? Could Shaka handle the UK job? Beard has a past would he be considered? Would Mark Pope be able to get the talent here?

I would want either Scott Drew, Danny Hurley or Billy Donovan. With what UK has to offer, I believe we could get Drew or Hurley. Donovan might be tired of the NBA and wants to get back into college coaching, if he does there's not a college job that's better than UK.

again, what is this love of Pope, he was 19-15 last year and that was his FOURTH year at BYU, win something first. That would be the equivalent of Louisville hiring Kenny Payne, that worked very well for them right?
Bad comparison by you. Payne had ZERO head coaching experience.

Pope, didn't do great last year, but the 5 years prior he went 116-47 (average 23.2-9.4). Plus he has started this year 7-0, with 9-pt win over SD St, 28-pt win over Ariz St., & 9-pt win over NC-St.
Plus don't forget the unique challenges coaching and recruiting at BYU.

Jai Lucas
Nick Nurse
Frank Vogel
Billy Donovan
Scott Drew
Jason Kidd
David Fizdale
Jordi Fernandez
Terry Stotts
Mark Pope
Jeff Linder
Kim English

To name a few...

Lloyd or Hurley in a one potato, two potato.

Couch Cal is a one trick pony who has been embarrassed year in, year out with an overwhelming advantage in talent. No one has done less with more in the history of sports.

He now has more Quad 4 losses than NCAA tourney wins in the last 5 years.

And everyone used to say the same thing about Dean Smith. Had more talent than anyone, and now we find out the Carolina way of taking fake classes didn't help either. Mark few is the guy. He wins year after year without the 5 stars and all the embarrassing losses. And he can actually coach. His guys improve yearly. But he has found his spot, so I doubt he leaves

The F you say?? Is that true?? That's an amazing stat. That's incredible for a Kentucky coach to have that attached to their name. Inexcusable. Out of all the weird Cal stuff and stats, that pretty much sums up the state of the program under Cal.
Don't forget he lost the all times win lead and will lose it a 2nd time. Another negative record he will set

One man doesn't have to do it all. The head man needs to be ABLE TO COACH. Winning at Kentucky will attract all the attention you need. Hire assistants who can recruit and develop players. The Kentucky program is greatest platform in college basketball and plugging in an authentic COACH is the first and the most important step. A COACH is what we NEED and a coach is what we DON'T HAVE right now. JMO.
Yeah. Some don’t understand this I don’t guess. So many built in advantages just with the program name alone. Pope could create an identity and a culture here and not this OAD BS. Actually have some continuity. Not sure why some don’t think he could do well here. Media raves about him.

I would call:

Lloyd
Hurley
Drew

Take the first who accepts. All can recruit at an acceptable level for UK fans. And they win games. 2 have rings. Lloys is probably not far off from his own.
I wouldn't advise taking the first to accept but, that's the list right there...or, it should be.
Drew will get the first call from Barnhart and he would run out of Waco for $6 million per year. Possibly significantly less.
Lloyd is a West coast guy but, he would listen.
Hurley is a East coast guy but, he too would listen.

I like the way Drew's teams compete on every possession and develop over time. Hurley's teams have a toughness that flows from their coach. He and Drew have proven they can win the big games.
Lloyd is a big mystery. Great recruiter and solid in game coach but, hasn't proved he can win at the elite level yet.
Give me Drew or Hurley at $6 mil per year and Let's Go!

I like all these guys. Unfortunately, I don’t see any of the three taking it.
