Facts! I really believe Pope is going to have to add a defensive “guru” as Cal did with Welch, for our offense 2yrs ago. It’s extremely apparent to me that we have no one that is currently on staff that can fix this defense. Pope’s teams finished on average in the 68-70th range for the years at BYU. Now we are like 87th last I looked this year. That ain’t gonna cut it at UK. He’s got to do something drastic or this problem will continue. It would be a lot easier explaining this if we had a super young team but the fact is we are an extremely experienced team and this shouldn’t happen at all, ever.
This. And it hits a nerve with so many people because it's inexcusable. NONE of us can go to our boss and say, "Hey, I'm just gonna not do anything today." And vary rarely do we get to say, "Hey, not feeling it today. "
Experienced, yes; but the three best and most consistent players are banged up or completely unavailable and the remaining guys are slow, unathletic, one-dimensional and/or playing out of position. At the same time, the SEC is the strongest ever. Every game we play, we are out-athleted at most if not all positions. This is what you get when your coach is hired in April and you have zero returning players; and still, we have a boatload of huge wins that nobody expected.
