Season is toast.

Not toast IMO, but we have dug an unbelievably huge hole to have to climb out of.

Very depressing.
But it has been this way far too long. As we look back maybe the Legion of Doom was wrong. Tubby was probably a better coach and we wanted him gone after a round of 32 loss to UConn. Tubby never had a losing season or embarrassing losses like Cal. The program is spinning its wheels. You cannot continue to run a NBA g league. I don’t have any suggestions for a coach but I am seeing lots of good young coaches who have totally figured Cal out.

LOD was not wrong. But that is a discussion no one wants now

My comment was in reference to Cal once saying "I can go home and pet my dogs now" after losing early in the SEC tournament.
I know. I was just messin’. I’ll be there 3 nights ready to rock n roll, win or lose. It’s Nashville!

It's always a great time. Used to go without even getting tickets sometimes.

Yeah, that’s usually my move. I broke down last year and bought Friday tickets only to see a loss. Could’ve bought 3 beers on Broadway for what I spent on tickets. 😀

Season is not toast. Ride the waves up and down to the beach. Florida is a very good, fundamentally sound team that is hard to beat.

There is much reason to be concerned but the season isn't over. Our team has a lot of games left
and they should probably play them and try to win.

Do all of you guys not see every single team in the country playing conference games close? It's not just UK. So does that mean every school won't make the sweet 16?
Yes we should win that game but what is your reasoning for Kansas, Purdue, unc, Arizona, everyone playing these games close? Someone has to still make sweet 16

I'm afraid he DOES know how to fix it, but is refusing to do that. What is that, one asks? Benching ALL of the starters (except for Ugonna going by tonight's effort) if possible, and and putting in guys who will (a) probably lose the game and (b) will give you the defensive effort you're looking for. Cal is simply unwilling to bench his higher ranked guys.
It's all about the star-rankings that are determined by someone else and apprently know very little. Coaching ... real coaching would cure many of the ills we see with this team. Cal is in the twilight of his career and he's coasting and doesn't want to be disturbed.

C’mon guys, the season isn’t officially over until draft night! We might get knocked out of the SECT in the first round again or the NCATT prematurely, but you have to stay focused on what’s really important.

I had a suspicion, reed needs to come off the bench. Dillingham is a good fit off the bench as well. You need a strong lead guard. He isn't that! Both inject big energy and offense when they check in.
Mitchell has to have less minutes.. He hurts us on defense, I can accept freshman being soft, but not a SR. I don't know if it's to many minutes, but it's like he doesn't fight half the time!
Who's this player we have that should start over him (reeves already starts so not him) ? Wagner , Dill, Edwards? You can say Thiero and Reeves should start, but who's the third guy? Dill plays d just as bad and isnt consistent as Reed, Wagner isnt that much better on D to warrant the serious drop off offensively. Face it, the best bet is to work their azzes off and get Reed and the rest of the team to stay home defensively and not gamble...... and work on defensive techniques . Reed's a smart boi, with enough work, repetition, he'll become decent defensively.

it could also be Cal's entire philosophy on defense is garbage for todays game..........this is now 4 years in a row of horrible defense no matter who he's recruited.

I don't blame the team I blame the coach he cannot coach is the bottom line.
That is used around here as the problem for everything. He's not the best in game adjustment coach but he's far better than some on here give him credit for. I think it just picks up steam on here after several start saying it lol . Earlier in the season when the bigs came back and we couldn't stop unc wilmington the board was on the "cal slowing down the offense" "same ol cal" when it was still obvious the floor was spaced exactly how you want it to be. Lol it's like some fans on here just go with the flow and say something no matter how wild it is.
I'm ready for a change too though!!!

If we did have a coaching change this spring and we got a hot name in the coaching ranks... I'm not so sure it will give some what they want. White is doing well at Georgia but that wouldn't be good enough here at UK. Before you tell me he will get better players here... You mean the ones that leave after one season? UK won't ever be a school where kids stay 4 years again. Kids use the school just like the school uses the kids. Recruiting unheralded players can work but I don't believe our fans would let it take it's course

Season is not over but I have definitely recalibrated expectations. I too usually reach for 2014 for hope but there is a reason that season was special. A turnaround like that doesn’t happen very often.

I always wondered who gave the players the stars in the first place, because you sure can't pick the best players by that reasoning. Geez.

It's ok to lose games because other teams lose games too!

fans will have to accept that whenever Cal leaves it will be a rebuilding year, maybe two. It will really depend on what team a new coach can put together using the portal because recruiting will be dried up. The AD better have a bucket of NIL money available to hire the best portal kids out there in preparation for a coaching change

Some of us have been telling you guys for weeks that our offense can only get us so far. You have to be able to stop teams and not just have a shootout. That is living life too dangerously and will bite you in the end.

I was pissed after the SC loss, didn’t even care last night. As the game stayed close, I just wondered how will we piss this away. I have never seen a team regress like this one. I will say though, Cal has them playing just how he wants them to play. Slow, plodding rock fights where we let the other team dictate the style of play.

The program is beyond stale, and I’d have more respect for Cal if he steps down at the end of the season. My fear is that his stubbornness keeps him around another 3-5 years, and we get more of the same results we’ve seen the last few seasons.

At this point, it only comes down to March. This team isn’t competing for the SEC regular season. So there really isn’t much point in investing energy until the tournaments. I said at the start of this season, if Cal wanted to win back BBN, this team was going have to compete/win from start to finish. We currently have 4 league losses; and looking at more.

The Kentucky basketball program is pretty damn deflated right now. We’ve had 3.5 years of vastly different players and staff, but Cal always seems to find a way to screw it up. I am not sure how anyone could want Cal to stick around beyond the end of this season. The man looks tired and broken down, but his stubbornness keeps him doing the same shit over and over. We’ll see how the season ends, but it’s going take another miracle March run to take the suck out of this season.

The irony man. Last season everyone here was shouting to the rooftops that offense was the problem and that cal needed to hire an offensive coordinator. I mean it was a daily flood of posts about this.

One year later here we are.........saying defense is more important haha. You can win with any style of ball as long as you execute. we only execute on one end of the floor. But if you make me choose I will choose elite defense every time.

Go back and read my post if you wish but I was not one of those people. Our defense has been the problem for a while. Too many people listened to Matt Jones calling from his high throne that the offense was outdated and needed to be more "modern".

It's funny how it's somehow the fans' fault that we're running a more offensively oriented game. As if Cal has no say in it. LOL

why does it have to be either / or.

The challenge in the past was Cal on offense didn't have consistent shooters and as a result teams clogged the lane, Whatever dribble drive is/was, it wasn't going to work with the guys clanging 3 pointers off the rim or driving into the the paint where a team was collapsing on them.

Can you not have a team average 80 points a game AND play good defense?

People want to blame Reed for last night's loss - and I can see why but at the same time, when your guy hits (5) 3 pointers maybe its time to switch things up. Admit that Reed can't guard the guy and swap him. Was that Wagners job? ok Wagner isn't available, then play a hybrid zone, double team him, put Dillingham on him, make some adjustment for crying out loud.

Plenty of blame to go around for last night. But if you try to blame the players people will say you're protecting Cal. If you try to blame Cal then you're just a hater. Sometimes everyone sucks and the other team wants it more.
