We could be #4 by next Monday. Huge games: Duke vs. Kansas; Bama vs. Houston; Iowa State vs. Auburn, etc.

#2 UConn already lost tonight.
#4 Auburn is taking on #5 Iowa State tonight. One of them will lose.
#6 Houston is playing #9 Alabama tomorrow night. If Bama wins, we'll move up again.
#11 Duke plays #1 Kansas tomorrow night.

We'll pass UConn, one of Auburn/Iowa State, maybe Houston, and perhaps even Kansas if Duke wins.

UK could be #4 by Monday with Gonzaga #1, Auburn #2, Tennessee #3, and UK #4.

When's the last time the SEC had three top 5 teams?

My bet is that they keep Kansas in front of us if Duke wins unless it’s a blowout…at least until we beat Clemson and maybe need the Gonzaga game too to outright jump. But other than that, the rest are prob dead on

Auburn will probably jump Gonzaga for the #1 spot. They won at Houston too. I've got Kansas losing to Duke tomorrow.

Your scenario could happen, but I think the Cats will only move up at most 2 spots.

Not saying it’s right or wrong if the following happens, but I could just see these things happening:

If Bama beats Houston, my guess is Bama jumps UK, so no net gain there.

If Iowa State wins out in Maui, I’m not certain will drop below the Cats with a last second loss to Auburn, especially if Auburn beats UNC tomorrow. Auburn may jump Zags into #1

I think UCONN is going to be given the benefit of the doubt this early in the season, so don’t think they will drop below the Cats.

This is too much good basketball before March. How’m I supposed to get any work done this week?

I’m only mostly joking. All those years semi tuned-out, I’d forgotten the impractical side of my love affair with college basketball.

Rankings are so meaningless right now anyway. As long as you're in shouting distance of where you want to be in February, you're good. I'm fine with anywhere in the top 10 at this point in the season. Actually, I'm more than fine with it. If we finish anywhere in the top 8 this year, it will have been a tremendous season.

Preseason rankings are often meaningless in the preseason, but not when you're two to three weeks in; because it means you're winning, and winning matters all season long - something Calipari forgot about halfway through his tenure here.

I don't really care where we are ranked..no one remembers who was in the top 5 in nov/dec

I just care where we are at the end for seeding
But people remember if you beat Duke in November, and beating Duke in November only adds to a better tournament resume.

So rankings do matter by the third week because it shows we're actually beating some good teams, and those wins affect seeding.

It’s an absurd argument. Like it won’t matter if we beat the number three team in a week and a half because it’s too early in the season.

Every game matters, or why even play (like Adolph Rupp used to think and say), Unfortunately, some people think it sounds intelligent to sound like the old U of L fans who used to have the mentality that if iDenny and the boys were ready in March was all that mattered. One mentality made Kentucky the winningest college basketball program while the other mentality made for a pathetic and less respected joke of a program.
