Rick Pitino is Back: New Coach at Iona

Let’s not forget that Cal did the same....Billy G had many believing that Hunter McClintock and some other 7th grade YouTube stud were going to take us back to the promise land. Lots of drinking going on back then and not Billy G.
Yes he did. Cal has been a blessing to Ky bball. He is a great coach and I'm glad he's here.

How do you know he took the ul job as a jab at Ky??? We don't know what he was thinking. What if he thought: "I loved Ky so much and want to go back to that area. The only job available is ul, so that will do" ?
I think there were other available choices... BUT.... I also think RP thought the UofL job was a no-brainer... That UK fans loved him soooo much that they would become fans of any school he coached... EVEN UofL .... Yes I really do think he was that much of a narcissist and had no clue or care what a Kentucky fan was. Ricks world is about basketball and the immediate space around him.
And perhaps his kids? Who knows?

Cal gets berated all the time by opposing fans but yet he doesn't lose his composure and flip off the fans. Pitino cares about no one else but himself. Just look at how he treated his wife by cheating on her in a public place. He didn't even try to hide the fact that he was doing it. I'm glad he left Kentucky before his destructive behavior ended up taking us down with him.
Cal has done a good job dealing with those that don't like him and the disdain for him is much more widespread than for any other coach in the land.
Never said RP hasn't made mistakes. Maybe he doesn't care about anyone else....none of us know for sure.

He didn't do it to me, or you. Because I've not done those things does not make me better, more righteous, or even a better man than him. I have my own issues that render me every bit as bad as anyone else. He didn't do it to Ky. He didn't do it to uk. Based on what I know, it appears he did some wrong things. None of us knows about the prostitutes, but granted he should have known.
I hate it for him that he seems to be miserable.
You have a right to love Pitino just like I have a right to dislike the actions that man has taken since leaving UK. We can agree to disagree.

Don't know that I love him but I do care about him as well as most people.
We do agree on disliking some of his actions.
Have a great day!

Serious question. Why wish him “good luck”? He cheated on his wife (and not just cheated...had stank sex with a woman in public on a freaking restaurant table lol) and also cheated/ paid for players and also was privy/ okay with strippers/escorts for his players and potential recruits.

I can maybe understand not wishing him ill will, but wishing him good luck?
Fair question.

Fair answer:

Except that Pitino is probably one of the 5 best coaches in the country....Big difference. He will win wherever he goes.
I agree with this and this will a be a stepping stone for a bigger job a year or 2 down the road.

The powerhouse team )TIC) that beat UK in the recruiting wars for Jeff Ruland.

That is a great hire for Iona.. and as a Jasper, im not happy about. Iona is going to rule that conference for a while.. or at least until Pitino bolts.

I don't think he has enough years left in him to improve Iona and then try and get a better job. I think he is at his last stop. The guy is starting to look like death warmed over. He is making Coach K look like a spring chicken.
I just read an article this morning that said he might not get to coach Iona due to the stuff that happened at UL. The NCAA is not done yet and RP might have some consequences to pay.

He always went on about how much he loved Greece but deep inside he was miserable and lived for the day to return as a college coach in America. It doesn't surprise me a school in New York give him the chance and he would have crawled all the way to Iona for that chance. Rick brought all of this on himself in his quest to be better than Kentucky, something he was never able to do. When you have everything and lose it it hurts forever, egos will bring you down, he's living proof.

But you should get it. Favre didn’t take the Minny job to stick it in the eye of c Green Bay.

Pitino’s decision was not just a business decision. It was almost assuredly to stick it in the eye of UK. Scuttlebutt at the time was he thot the UK fans would start supporting UL instead of UK. Didn’t happen, was never going to happen.

UK owes him nothing, zip, nada.

Joe B., Sutton, and Tubby all had the goal of extending the UK legacy. Others have and do but not their main goal.

Like hell he didn’t (re: Favre). That was a direct shot at the Packers.

Rick will be there one season, if the NCAA clears him in the FBI probe that's still going on. If he clears that and has a decent year at Iona, he'll be back at a major school.

He has insisted he plans to retire at Iona.
I know this does t mean much, but he has some very close friendships at Iona that were huge in the hiring decision. I can’t imagine he’d burn them after a season.

Based on his track record if he stays there a few years he will be successful, he has always gotten the most out of his players with emphasis on fundamentals, conditioning and teaching to overcome talent deficiencies. He did it here, Providence, Boston U, etc.

The man is scum but he's a helluva coach. I've always said if I had to pick one coach to win one game I'd choose him.
