Reed Sheppard committing Saturday

Ive thought the same thing. I do know that after scrimmaging with the team , Reed was convinced he belonged at this level. According to Jeff he did very well.
Jeff and Reed were convinced Reed could play at this level long before Reed practiced with the UK team.

I trust your statement. It is obvious that you know what is going on. I hope if it is Kentucky that he gets a chance to prove just how good he is. That is my only concern. I was around the program in the transition years between Rupp and Hall. I am still friends to this day with people who played for both. It is a different time and trying to relate to the focus then was on winning championships and recruiting was different. My mindset is not of Cal and today's focus. I need to stop expressing my opinions. Hope Reed gets that chance.
a lot of fans do not have the mindset of recruiting today's top players
guys like A. Walker, Mercer would be OAD (no matter what team they played for)
i doubt Delk and McCarty would get past their soph years
the landscape is different

If I'm not mistaken, they changed that rule:

NCAA Division 1 and Division 2— Student-athletes can receive personal contact and recruiting materials starting June 15 after their sophomore year. Coaches can call athletes, send text messages, direct messages and emails, as well as make verbal offers.
Some think Cal should have been at the hospital when Stacy gave birth to Reed and offered a scholarship as Reed came out of her vagina.

Reed should have been offered as a freshman. No way a legacy recruit like Shep shouldn’t have been given the red carpet out the gate.

I would have been all over it. I don’t care when someone else offered. We should have offered at birth as far as I’m concerned.
That’s ridiculous. What if he turned out to be no good? Still want that birth offer?

Yes he should have...Cal always likes to say he is borrowing Coach Rupp's chair...it's too bad he did not borrow his philosophies on recruiting. He would have already had a handshake with Reed when he was in 9th grade because he valued the fact of the father or some connection to Kentucky basketball. I heard Coach Hall say one time that they had Mike Casey committed when he was still in diapers because of Harry's connection to his Dad...and it Reed's case his father played at UK...Cal says he gets it when it comes to our program. He doesn't get everything.
Well if coach Rupp recruited like he did in the 40’s and 50’s Kentucky would suck. It’s National now, no longer can the state make a power program. Cal did everything he could to get Reed here and I think in the end he will be

I think you are generalizing. I think when you have a kid 75
miles from campus who was a 4 star now a 5
And his dad played at UK I think that is an automatic. I think if his dad didn’t play at UK it should be an automatic. This whole discussion is shows the divide between the fan base of Rupp Hall Sutton and Pitino & the Cal
Club.
What did Cal not do to get Reed that he should have done? He offered him very early on, way earlier than he has offered anyone in his tenure here.

Yes I’d offer his son a spot. The parents mean a great deal to the program and there’s no reason not to. We’ve offered scrubs before, might as well be him.

Hopefully Reed decides to follow in Dads footsteps and become a legend at UK

This is my thought, he might be seeing how Allen is utilized and think yeah no thanks. Allen has been recruited over every year and that probably doesn't sit well with someone who doesn't think they'll be a one and done.
The Allen’s would be a good family to talk to first, that’s for sure. Also Darius Miller.

Ought to brutal for Calapari not Reed. You go where you think you fit and where you feel wanted.
Agree. The Sheppards should tell Cal “Reed is committing here, but if he works his butt off and earns some playing time but sits while the starters struggle he’s out of here immediately”. It would be Juzang 2.0.

Offer him at birth even though he may never pick up a basketball. That is what Cal should do. Cal has no idea how to recruit. Hope he gets his act together soon.

The only thing Dontaie Allen and Reed Sheppard have in common is they play HS basketball in Kentucky. Why do people keep bringing up this analogy? Allen is the 4th lowest ranked recruit (50 spots below Reed) that signed with UK. I like Dontaie, but he and Reed have one thing in common...they live in the same state. Reed Sheppard, right now is in the same ballpark (within 5 spots in the rankings) as Daniel Orton, Eric Bledsoe, Doron Lamb (exact same spot), Kyle Wiltjer, Marcus Lee, Tyler Ulis (exact same spot), SKJ, Nick Richards, Quade Green and Immanual Quickley, If he's talking to anyone, he should be talking to those guys, not Dontaie Allen.

What do you think about Jamal Mashburn Jr.? He wasn't great at Minnesota, but is lighting it up at New Mexico - 17.3 PPG, 4 RPG, and 31% on 3s now.

I agree that Calipari should offer these guys, but would Mash Jr. be better than Davion Mintz? That's probably who's spot he would've taken.

He was a Pitino guy so he wasn’t coming here anyway.

Helps Cal in ways I cannot even tell you. Big time pickup legacy recruit. Good job Cal that’s what we want.

Jeff and Cal hate each other so much. He’s a “Pitino guy” through and through. Guess we’re just “lucky”.
This is where you lose tons of credibility. There is ZERO evidence either of them hate the other. This is just you spewing nonsense and using proof by assertion. Furthermore, I don't think ANYBODY is a Pitino guy 'through and through' anymore after Sypher and Bordellogate at U6. Your tell is your tendency to speak in absolutes with a bull in the china shop certitude. It's a fatal flaw for your cred. Sorry pal.

Another INSANE claim by you. According to you, Tubby should have offered Sheppard at birth and UK should have been bound by that offer for 18 years.

I'm in favor of the legacy recruit strategy, for the record, but man you are hurting your own cause with nonsense like that.

Honestly, we should offer both as early as possible.

Again, if Reed is good enough to play (he is), then he will play and probably start at UK during his career here. I can only surmise by the people saying Cal won't play him is that is because he is 1. White 2. From KY 3. Both. For the first one, I will go with Herro again...good frosh, played and did well here and last I checked was white. I will point out Miller for the 2 option as Calipari started him a ton and he played his role amazingly well at UK and helped UK win #8.

This is as slam dunk as just about any committment we've seen in years. He isn't going through a big old production, in the state of Kentucky at his high school, to announce for no friggin Virginia.

Welcome aboard, Reed Sheppard!!!
