He wasn't immune from getting tagged by Freeman either. I just did not have a good feeling about the move with Ian in the game at that moment with the bases loaded facing one of the most feared hitters in the league. Freeman can take anyone in the league deep and hit them hard. Reds have proven they can beat great teams and winning in LA is huge. If the Reds want to get to October and advance, they need a setup man and a reliable lefty option besides Young to do anything in the postseason. Sanmartin is not coming back and went into the season with these being the 2 lefties in the pen. Antone is a RHP, if he can get back to form sooner than later when he returns that will certainly help.
Texas did not give up much for the lefty Chapman if that is any indication what the market looks like for relievers. Wouldn't mind a trade with Colorado again like they did with Mychal Givens but this time get Daniel Bard and LHP Brad Hand. Bard is a great closer, would make a dominant setup man and Hand has 131 saves in the league too. A stout bullpen like this, when the offense is clicking and starting pitching depth the Reds will have once healthy, 2023 definitely is a year the Reds could make noise in October. Doesn't have to be the wait until next year approach. Give up some of those talented infielders beyond the organization's Top 15 on the Reds list that likely won't play above the current infielders in Cincinnati. Colorado could certainly use some offensive help in their hitters park.
