Reds

I trust Sims to get the job done especially for jams like he got out of in Arizona and the closing experience during 2021 before the injury. If that is how they feel about their 2nd most reliable reliever who has been here since 2018 then Cincinnati certainly could use another to stabilize the bullpen. Especially one with experience in October if Cincinnati makes it that far. Another reliable arm would do wonders for this bullpen. Haven't seen a team that couldn't use help yet during the stretch run. They are middle of the row, 15th in team bullpen ERA in the entire MLB and pitched the 6th most innings in all of MLB so far.
Hopefully there's an influx of returnees soon. Antone, Gutierrez, Along with Greene and Lodolo. Move Weaver to middle relief when Greene and Lodolo and/or whoever they may bring in via trade. But still need to designate a second closer.

Reds played with fire all night before finally falling. Brewers were 1 for 15 with RISP before bottom of 9th. Need to crank up the offense, I'm sorry but having Votto stuck in the middle of the lineup is no longer working. Guy's hitting like .170.
Stephenson's been struggling since the break as well. A few others have bounced back nicely. India somewhat (9/34) but of course he got rested yesterday. The irony is he was also rested on Wednesday when the Reds only scored 3 runs on 4 hits in a close win over the Giants. Still probably just part of a schedule with almost everyone taking their turn so far.

Sanmartin, Legumina & Dunn all could be back at some point this year as well. Antone is the one piece that when healthy, could use him whenever much like teams did with Andrew Miller. I feel like with all of these pitchers though with these lengthy injuries, have to caution expectations when they first return. Some may take longer to get comfortable again.

Reds really screwed themselves by the poor start, amazing they are this close to first place really. I heard Tommy say the other night the reds were something like 41-21 since mid-April and that’s counting a six game losing streak. Said only Atlanta was better. I agree the Reds seem to pucker when they play the Brewers, win these next two games and they’re in first place though. Be nice to pass these turds and not look back.

Stoudt optioned back to Louisville, Newman activated. Casali to the IL and Duarte recalled.

The White Sox have interest in Reds second baseman Jonathan India, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. This item has some connection to a pair of other recent reports, one from last week about the Reds’ interest in Chicago’s pitchers, and an item from MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand earlier today indicating that the Reds were at least open to consider moving India in a deal for controllable pitching.

However, Wittenmyer pushed back on Feinsand’s report, hearing that the Reds’ willingness to move India was “vastly overstated…and led to conversations assuring one of the most respected players in the clubhouse of the slim-to-none chance he’ll be traded.” Listening to offers out of due diligence doesn’t translate that the Reds are particularly eager to move India, with Wittenmyer indicating that Cincinnati’s talks about India fall “into the category of there’s no such thing as an untouchable player,” rather than the front office actually shopping the second baseman.

They have something like the second or third best record in baseball since April 24. At least I think that was the date they put up on the stat last night

Antone with a perfect inning in the Arizona Complex League. Imagine it will be a slow rehab back and whenever he does get to full strength, will be huge for the Reds. Coming off 2nd TJ surgery. Rubber match tomorrow for the last time the Reds face the Brewers in the regular season. Ben Lively on the mound vs Freddy Peralta. Lively's last 2 starts vs Milwaukee, 2 runs in 9 2/3 innings.

EDC is now 5 for his last 48...one big giant hole in the batting order along with Votto. Hitting cleanup was ignorant from day one...moving him to lead-off was a complete brain fart, but that is the genius that Bell is. Well past time for him to do a week or so stint back in AAA and work out the kinks, plus take time to study how he is being pitched. The incessant hyperbole from Sadak and the fans doesn't make up for his inability to hit. Oh, but he hit one hard and far....on the rare instance he makes contact.

They have stumbled into a quality starter in Abbott. I really like what he’s shown so far.
He's the future ace in my book, with Greene being #2. He may need to be shut down for a few weeks in August though. If Greene comes back, maybe he can skip a start or three. I know it's a pennant race right now, but he's never pitched this much and you have to think he's going to wear down at some point. I'd like to get him some rest in August for the stretch run in September.

Earth to Cleveland: Thanks for giving up on Benson....uh, what were you thinking?
Hope he's not one of those one year wonders who flames out. he's definitely found his groove and you don't wince every time he comes to bat like we did with Barerro.

The funny thing is Barrero is currently killing it in the minors. It is like he forgets how to play when he puts on the Reds jersey. I do blame Bell for some of that though. Barrero hit that homer in Boston over the green monster and was starting to show some life when Bell sent him to the bench. That is enough to kill anyone's momentum. Granted, we don't need Barrero with all the IF we currently have but I'm worried Bell will do the same things with them that he did with/to Barrero.

Legitimate concerns. Barrero hits the Boston GS, few days later almost takes off Kershaw's head with a wicked up the middle line drive hit....then sits for 3 games. Hardly conducive on building momentum or confidence. To Barrero's credit he's gone to AAA and after a slow start is closing in on .300 and has 7 HRs in a short period of time. Bell's handling of CES leaves a lot to be desired.

I meant to include the handling of CES in my post as well but forgot. Bell is not doing him any favors either.

Make that 5 for his last 50 w/ 2 more horrible AB's.

Good grief...no. Abbott is a nice 4 or 5, nothing more. It is just a matter of time before he turns into the basic 10 win pitcher and that is fine, but his stuff is hardly anything that screams ace. He will get shelled more often than not once teams see him routinely.

Just say you don't know anything about baseball. It would save you a lot of time. You want to trade the EDLC, Marte, CES, or anyone else regardless of what it does to the future. At this point, you are either just incredibly dumb or a troll.

He is currently batting 262 which is acceptable for a rookie who has played a whopping 42 games. Newsflash, rookies strike out and go through slumps while they get used to the game in the majors. He more than makes up for that with the other things he does such as stealing, his defense, and his power. You are fooling no one.

Remind me again of how no one is untouchable in pro sports. You disappeared after that ridiculous claim.

Diaz no longer money. He’s definitely showing signs of fatigue.
He gets the job done more often than not and pitchers that are 5th and 6th type-starters are going longer in games recently which bodes well for a heavily pitched staff in the future. Reminder that Bell put another guy recently recalled from the minors, in another high-leverage situation with Duarte.

Don't feed the troll, proven over and over not to be a Reds fan. Only around to bitch when they lose and gone whenever the Reds do something right.

Cleveland has been nice to the Reds over the years.

Reds get so anxious at the plate when playing Milwaukee. Peralta's getting crazy swings on obvious balls. Now with 13 K's in the game and no walks in 6 innings. Otoh, Lively's pitching the game of his life with unmatched efficiency.

The ridiculously pitcher friendly strike zone the ump has isn't helping. They can't help but swing at some since you don't know what he is going to call a strike or ball. If it is remotely close, the batters have no choice but to swing. I never thought I would say it but bring on the robot umps. At least then, everyone would know what is or isn't a strike since it wouldn't change from game to game.

5 for 51 is not acceptable. That is not a slump....it means you need help with your game. You're clearly clueless about the sport in general, outside of being nothing more than a homer.

His power? Oh he hit one hard and far....

I disappeared because most on here don't have a clue about baseball.

keep spouting nonsense you know nothing about. Make sure you change your oxygen tank. You will need it with your head that far up your ass, troll. Still waiting for you to follow up on the ridiculous claim that no one is untouchable in pro sports.
