Yeah I did not like that move either. Fraley has proven to be the most consistent hitter in the lineup since last July. Keep him in the lineup and leave him be.This BP....wow.
Glad Steer/Barrero finally coming around. Concerned TS isn't showing power, lingering shoulder trouble? Earth to Bell: Put Fraley in the lineup and leave him alone. Don't PH a .170 "hitter" for him regardless of his splits.
Lack of HR hitters is stunning. Steer/India/Fraley may pop one about every 5 games but otherwise FO has put together a team of singles hitters who have to play station to station baseball to score, all the while playing in one of the most hitter friendly parks in MLB. SMH. Really concerned about TS, his broken collarbone seems to have drained what modest power he had.Reds already experts at loading the bases and getting one run home.
Totally agree. This team could be pretty decent with a good bullpen. They got some fun young players who are hitting the hell out of the ball. Fun to watch.
1 game back and already in mid-season form, 0-4 2 strikeouts with that 'revamped swing'.In order to make room for Senzel, Benson optioned to Louisville.
This team is definitely scrappy. They lack power despite being in a homer friendly park, but they fight. Hopefully we can get a better look at the future after the all star break and they can bring up ELDC and CES. Maybe McClain too. If Barerro continues to improve does he become trade bait at the deadline to make room for ELDC? Would dumping Senzel and putting McClain at CF be a decent option? This team could be pretty decent with a good bullpen. They got some fun young players who are hitting the hell out of the ball. Matt McLain in CF would be a decent option for sure. His 2019 season at UCLA started 50 games. It has to happen to accommodate ELDC at SS, Steer at 3B and India at 2B while he's still in a Reds uniform. Like Barry Larkin said tonight, these guys are coming. Look at what the Rays are doing at 13-0. Young and talented hitters surrounded by Randy Arozarena. Cincinnati has that potential with the talent headed their way soon. The prospects will bring the power eventually to the Reds lineup. McLain 3 HRs, 9 RBIs in Louisville. CES & ELDC go without saying. This team is definitely scrappy. Hitting .240 in AAA but falls into starting lineup. FO can't admit taking Senzel #2 overall was a massive failure. He brings nothing to the Reds rebuild other than taking ABs away from more deserving players. In order to make room for Senzel, Benson optioned to Louisville.
Wouldn't trade Barrero but put him in CF. In my view India is the one who could be dangled for a SP and a move of McClain to 2B, ELDC to SS, CES to 1B. India's defense hurts the team IMO.Matt McLain in CF would be a decent option for sure. His 2019 season at UCLA started 50 games. Good player who would bring a good SP in return.India is a stud.
I don't think now is the time to trade India, would be selling low and think he could still help this team tremendously. Reds will eventually move him like nearly everyone else. Seriously may need to consider switching India back to his natural 3B & give Steer a shot at 2B to see if he'll be better defensively. I get needing to find a spot in the infield but this is the situation the Reds backed themselves into a wall drafting too many damn infielders.Wouldn't trade Barrero but put him in CF. Re RF, I guess they limp along with Fraley if they'll put him in the lineup and leave him alone. Average arm hurts him but need that lefty stick. Freidl's arm keeps him in Left, just not a strong enough thrower otherwise. Maybe Almonte will be the answer although he's a good 2 years away.I don't think now is the time to trade India, would be selling low and think he could still help this team tremendously. Barrero wouldn't bring anything in a trade as of today though building onto his past few games plus CF experience would definitely increase it. If he can meet those numbers I listed before the season around 25 HR, 80 RBIs from CF then there is a place for him long term on this team or it will help his trade value. Right now, he still has it all to prove. Those numbers are good though I would expect ELDC blows those numbers out of the water which would make it hard for anyone to keep the SS position over a #1 prospect like him.
If Barrero does finally come around for good and become a productive outfielder, then Jose's value to the organization significantly boosts with the Reds lack of outfielders. Fraley is the exception and Friedl has a place on this team as a decent hitter but not an everyday CF. Going to need a RF though in the future with Myers just a stop gap. Barrero's athleticism is best suited for CF. Perhaps they can give Fraley another shot from RF though Fraley & Friedl better off in LF.
If Myers is dealt at the deadline, TJ Hopkins could get a shot this year. Hitting for a solid average in Louisville, played 9 games at RF and has some decent power. Even then, it really doesn't solve the problem finding everyday at-bats for players like Friedl, Fraley & Barrero in the outfield bringing someone new into the lineup. Eventually someone will have to be traded. Maybe it is India, Barrero or start moving these infield prospects for a legit starting pitcher. Player I find intriguing is Yerlin Confidan, lefty RF with good size/power. He was ACL MVP in '21 but then has disappeared, maybe injured?? He's still only 20, surprised he's not at Daytona. Maybe he'll resurface in ACL again later this summer. If Myers is dealt at the deadline, TJ Hopkins could get a shot this year. Had forgotten about this guy though his 2021 season stats were impressive in 50 games. His MILB page shows Daytona placed him on the 7-day IL on April 7th, https://www.milb.com/player/yerlin-confidan-691398 Hopefully he is back on the field before too long and have a healthy season.Player I find intriguing is Yerlin Confidan, lefty RF with good size/power. I hope this player is really good but depending on a team that's like 2-12 for pitchers shows where the organization is.
I don't know much about him coming over from the Twins for Farmer. Off to a good start in Louisville and is one of about 3 other relievers, Duarte, Nutof & Busenitz who I'd rather see over some of the rejects the Reds send out there on a daily basis. Bad news on Santillan, knee discomfort setting him back again.I hope this player is really good but depending on a team that's like 2-12 for pitchers shows where the organization is.
Little things matter. Newman failed to field Turner's first dribbler, tough play but you're supposed to be a ML SS, hurt but my goodness...WTF was India thinking holding a runner on 2B, opens up a HUGE hole for Harrison on what should've been a routine groundout that rolled thru for a base hit. Whoever is in charge of Reds infield defense had his head up his ass.The Fightin' Phils have long memories. 7-0 top of the first and still batting.
