Reds

When do we get Antone, Sims and Santillan back? This bullpen as currently constructed is going to be the death of me.

The Reds are 2 games over .500 for the first time since Oct. 2021!

They have three wins and they started off 3 and 22 last year. I'll take it! They do have India and Stephenson. They're two good pieces

Good comeback win but you have to think Overton's pitching himself out of the Bigs. That's three bad starts in a row, going back to ST. Lacking a quality fastball's holding him back.

Outside of a couple of innings, the bullpen has been lights out. Or at least about as good as can be expected. Granted we have to have Starters that can go more than 4 innings or those wheels will fall off really fast.

Antone, likely out till mid season at least, but I'm about ready to say he's done. two Tommy John Surgeries and setbacks trying to return from the second one, doesn't seem conducive to returning to top form. Not sure where the other two stand in their rehab.

Question, I know there are a pitchers who "work fast" and pitchers who work slowly. Will the pitch timer speed up games at the expense of some arms? If Pitchers are now required to work faster than they were accustomed to, will they tire more easliy and subject themselves to more injuries?

Also, in last nights game, the Cubs CF made a long run up in to shallow right field to make a catch. the pitch timer started, but the pitcher couldn't start his motion until the CF got back into position and set. The pitcher was goininto his windup with like 3 seconds left on the clock. Should they not start the clock until all defensive players are in position?

Vosler and Newman look really good to me so far, Newman made several really nice plays, and he appears to be able to hit MLB pitching, which I am not convinced Barrero can do.

Feel like Vosler and Newman will be the next in line to use as trade bait at the deadline. Which could be just fine if ELDC and CES are ready to be moved up to take their places.

Antone is the only one expected to be out long term. Santillan & Sims could be back as early as mid-April according to Red Leg Nation and the CBS Injury report on all MLB teams.

He's cheap and the Reds need to do all they can to keep Vosler instead of trading him if he is legit with the current state of the Reds outfield. While 3B is Vosler's primary position, he has played every position except CF & catcher. Trade Myers which they probably do anyways. Put Vosler in RF, keep Fraley and roll with Friedl and whatever Benson can give the Reds for now.

Not sure how I feel about Cessa being our #5. Feel like he belongs in the pen. We'll see what he's got tonight.

Little Friedl has come to play this year. Triple last night. Homer Sunday and another tonight with the great catch in CF. Steer with a great play at 3B & Benson in LF with the catch against the wall. Cessa solid so far with 1 run.

Vosler is on fire, another HR!
He needs to play every day until he gives them a reason not to. Newman needs to be the everyday shortstop too.

If Benson and Barerro are ever in the lineup together the Reds won’t be scoring much that day. Benson just got his 8th K in 10 AB’s so far.

Levi Stoudt the other night pitched 4 scoreless innings without a hit vs the Indianapolis Indians. Hope he keeps it up and eventually join the rotation. Williamson's 1st start, 4 innings, 4 runs, 2 earned. Chase Anderson pitched 5 innings with 2 runs. Anderson had enough quality starts last year minus a couple bad games that I believe he could help the Reds out of the bullpen or taking Overton's rotation spot. Out of Overton, Williamson & Anderson, Chase had the better spring training.

Barrero starting in CF. Pregame said Cessa is moving ahead of Overton in the rotation which was to be expected. I believe they wanted to get him some extra work having been away with the team during the WBC.

Overton's likely on borrowed time anyway, I imagine it won't be long before we see Stoudt as the 5th starter.

Great job by Lodolo Sat, great 8th by Diaz and the right move to use him vs the top of the Phillie's order, poor decision trying to stretch Diaz out for 6 outs. Reds lacking another quality BP guy killed them but they're such a poor offensive team it probably doesn't matter.

Lodolo filthy today vs the Phillies, 7 innings, 12 K's & no runs. 3 hits, 2 BB allowed. Pitched 7 scoreless innings in a win over them at GABP last year. Bullpen needs serious help and some setup men for Diaz so he's not going 2 innings. Legumina & Nutoff have been off to a great start in Louisville. Can see Karcher & Duarte helping this team out at some point in 2023 as well.

Good chance of Luke Weaver returning within the next 2 weeks and expect the Reds to insert him into the rotation. I know it's not popular among Reds fans but don't expect the Reds to just forget that they have signed him much like Minor last year. The Reds will likely want to see both Stoudt & Williamson string together multiple quality starts in AAA to prove they're ready before getting called up.

It will be a mistake but you're probably right. Wouldn't bother me if the Reds called up Chase Anderson though.

You're probably right re Weaver but he's hardly the answer. And Williamson is having a really tough time, the plate is jumping around all over the place for him.

Weaver won't be the savior but at this point seeing what the Reds have gotten with Overton, willing to see them try something different going forward. If he can stay healthy for 4-5 starts, by then the Reds may have seen enough from Stoudt in AAA to call him up. 2 starts for Levi, just 1 earned run.

Nice comeback W but long term Reds are not a good offensive team. Today took 2 walks, infield hit and broken bat double to pull it off, not exactly killing the ball. But...good win, now on to Atlanta.
