I guess it's his age, but why is it that every time I watch Votto run I keep waiting for him to pull up lame at some point.Amazing start by Ashcraft! He was filthy tonight!
Sure but go back to his previous start vs Cleveland, they had their starters Ramirez, Rosario, Naylor etc shut them down to 2 hits in 4 innings. 3 wins, 2.60 ERA & 25 K's in 17 innings this spring. If concerns of him being healthy or durable were still in question, I think that notion can be put to rest. Have not heard anything to suggest otherwise.Ashcraft was unhittable, looked really sharp but a reminder....SD had no starters in this game. Those guys were backups/minor leaguers. Still was impressive. Loved the double steal and the bunts. Wish they'd move past the fallacy that Senzel is a ML player. I can live with a Fraley, Benson, Myers OF.
Oh I agree, Ashcraft was dominate last night. Last 3 starts of the Big Three have been most encouraging. Big start for Williamson next up.Sure but go back to his previous start vs Cleveland, they had their starters Ramirez, Rosario, Naylor etc shut them down to 2 hits in 4 innings. 3 wins, 2.60 ERA & 25 K's in 17 innings this spring. Curious to know what those numbers were after 2022. You can chalk up 2020 to the pandemic, somewhat 2021 though both of those seasons happened to be winning years for the Reds.![]()
Forbes: The Cincinnati Reds are worth $1.19 Billion - Redleg Nation
Forbes estimates that the Cincinnati Reds are worth $1,190,000,000. Their value didn't grow over the last year, but also didn't decline.www.redlegnation.com
I really wouldn't be surprised if Williamson gets sent down after blowing up tonight for 9 runs. Lets be honest, as much as we want the Reds to promote the prospects quickly Williamson has not been good. 11.20 ERA. I completely get if not now, when for players as old as him but damn he had a golden ticket to make his debut and did not make a strong case. His last start vs Oakland was solid, that's it. Being a lefty option in the rotation beyond Lodolo might be the only thing separating Williamson from the others. Guess we'll see what the Reds decide but wouldn't shock me if they don't go with Overton, Anderson & Weaver behind Cessa now. The others haven't had the best springs either but not this bad. Have to say I'm disappointed. Krall said last night they're open to using 6 starters at times.Oh I agree, Ashcraft was dominate last night. Last 3 starts of the Big Three have been most encouraging. Yes, disappointing showing for Williamson for sure. Thought I read the way the schedule falls the Reds may go with 4 starters early like the first 2-3 weeks(lots of off days). Guessing Reds will go with Cessa/Anderson until Overton/Williamson work thru things in AAA. Saw where Petty is struggling in MiLB camp. Surprised we haven't seen Roa, Benschoter, Boyle for an inning or 2 and only Abbott once.I really wouldn't be surprised if Williamson gets sent down after blowing up tonight for 9 runs. They need a 6th starter to give an occasional rest to the big three at the front of the rotation. But we all know how it's going to go. Somebody will pull up with arm soreness and miss 2 months, another will tweak their knee and miss three months, by July, they will be on their 12th starter, 4 will be on the IL and the bullpen will be worn out from pitching 5 innings of every game.I really wouldn't be surprised if Williamson gets sent down after blowing up tonight for 9 runs. My initial offseason prediction were those 2 at the end of the rotation despite hoping Williamson would beat one of them out. Unless Williamson gets going soon, by mid-season if Brandon joins the Reds he will be competing with Weaver for starts and even Justin Dunn might be back from the IL. Will need the depth to skip starts but Williamson when called up shouldn't be just viewed as a starting pitcher brought in for the rest to skip a start in the rotation when he has more of a future in this rotation beyond the Big 3.7-4 over the Angels. Greene 4 scoreless innings, Diaz with a save. Scoreless innings for Gibaut, Farmer & Cruz. Strickland gave up the 4 runs.
Pinder released. Good decision. Williamson, Anderson & Reynolds won't make the Opening Day roster. Overton & Cessa to fill out the rotation.
13 hits today. Steer with a home run, Ramos home run, 2 hits, 2 RBIs. Barrero was the star of the show with 3 hits, 4 RBIs, 3-run home run & an RBI double. Barrero & Reynolds with a SB.

Reds 'down to the final decisions' after latest cuts
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Four more cuts from camp on Friday have brought the Reds' 26-man Opening Day roster closer into focus. Cincinnati released utility player Chad Pinder, optioned left-handed pitching prospect Brandon Williamson to Triple-A Louisville and reassigned utility player Matt Reynolds...www.mlb.com
Hopefully Williamson can get to AAA and find his control. 7 BB/9IP won't cut it. So far the pitchers from the Seattle deals have me concerned that you have a 24-year old pitcher in Williamson still in AAA, Stoudt with an arm injury and 25 with not the best numbers already and then Justin Dunn is what he is. The position players have been impressive with Marte, Arroyo & Fraley. Definitely need Williamson to put it all together this year and hopefully Stoudt can push his way into the conversation so the Reds can use the others for nothing more than long relievers/spot starters to rest the young starters.Hopefully Williamson can get to AAA and find his control. 7 BB/9IP won't cut it. Very concerning Reds have to depend on MAYBE Weaver/Dunn suddenly find their health.
Yes though you can't really blame this current ownership group for Griffey given he was acquired during the Carl Lindner ownership years. The Castellini's inherited a bullshit contract that never really worked out here.Ken Griffey Jr will make $3.6M in 2024, topped only by Wil Myers ($6M), Mike Moustakas ($22M), and Joey Votto ($25M) on the Reds' 2023 payroll, per Spotrac.
Read that paragraph again and let it sink in. Tells you all you need to know about the Reds front office.
Looks like Seattle dumped sore armed pitchers on a gullible Reds FO. Cessa will be serviceable but makes Reds FO inability to sign innings eater a bonehead move.So far the pitchers from the Seattle deals have me concerned that you have a 24-year old pitcher in Williamson still in AAA, Stoudt with an arm injury and 25 with not the best numbers already and then Justin Dunn is what he is. Just terrible news! These are the types of injuries that can linger. If there's any staff I trust less than the Reds FO unit it's the Reds medical staff. They have a list of injured/recovering players a mile long, a lot of them pitchers but position players too. Reds need a change of luck.![]()
Reds prospects to start Minors season on IL
GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Two of the Reds' top prospects will open the 2023 Minor League season on the injured list, it was learned on Sunday. Shortstop Elly De La Cruz, who is ranked No. 1 in the organization and No. 10 overall by MLB Pipeline, has a left hamstring strain.www.mlb.com
OD is always exciting but this bunch probably tops out at 70 wins so.....be careful what we wish for.Opening Say is Thursday! My body is ready
The COVID shutdown wasn't that long ago. I remember what it was like without baseball during the summer. Be thankful for it even if we aren't going to be good. Any day with baseball is a good day.OD is always exciting but this bunch probably tops out at 70 wins so.....be careful what we wish for.
Think they'll be hard pressed to get to 70 wins. All three lead starters hit the IL last year, happens again and 100 losses are virtually assured. Do they dump Diaz, India and Myers by trade deadline and when will they FINALLY get the young guys called up? Second half of season needs to be the kids....IF they can get them healthy.MLB Network predictions for NL Central. Dead last tie again with Pittsburgh with a 72-90 record. Sad that will somehow be 'progress' after hitting the century mark last year.
You're insufferableYankees keeping top prospect, 21y/o SS, Braves keeping top young pitchers, Cardinals keeping 20y/o OF, their top prospect....but not the Reds! By god, we'll show'em we'll keep our guys buried in the minors until they're mid to late 20s then spring them on MLB right before we trade'em! Now the FO has dicked around where 3 of their Top Ten are lame. With friends like this who needs enemies??
Yeah, in some ways they are. But you rant a lot about something that isn't true.So are the Reds.
Valid points, I give you that but it galls me to see multiple contending teams(read NYY, ATL, STL) move their top prospects into MLB while the Reds, especially being as paltry as the are, sit on theirs. Argument is they don't want to "start their clock" implying the Reds will resign these guys at some point but who are we kidding? Cincy is way too cheap to do that. Get play out of them while the getting's good.Yeah, in some ways they are. But you rant a lot about something that isn't true.
Reds opening day roster 26 and under:
Hunter Greene (23)
Nick Lodolo (25)
Graham Ashcraft (25)
Alexis Diaz (26)
Reiver Sanmartin (26)
Tyler Stephenson (26)
Jonathan India (26)
Jose Barrero (24)
Spencer Steer (25)
Will Benson (24)
The average age of players in MLB who made their debut in the past decade was right around 25 years old. You use guys like EDLC as guys who may "FINALLY" get called up this year when he's all of 21 years old. For reference, Dylan Crews, the likely top pick this year, is already 21. EDLC is gonna debut before a future top 10 prospect is signed this summer. EDLC's rise is absurdly fast in professional baseball, yet you believe the Reds are slow playing him. It's unreal.
