I continue to visit this thread because I find it endlessly fascinating, and entertaining, to pick the brains of believers. I’m amazed that in the modern era that there are grown, educated adults that think ancient fairy tales are real. They seem to find logic in the illogical. They can make sense out of nonsense. They can self-delude to the point that they honestly think they have a personal “relationship” with a fictional character. They can gloss over the numerous stories of genocide, rape, torture, death, misogyny and slavery, and somehow think that collection of stories can be their personal moral compass. They can participate in what I view as a death cult, with pretend cannibalism, worshipping a dead guy, claiming to be washed in the blood of a dead guy, and looking forward to death so they can join the dead guy, all without it seeming the least bit weird.
And I find myself torn, daily, between thinking it is hilariously funny, and feeling really and truly sorry for them.
So, yeah, I’ll keep visiting every day until the thread is locked or taken down.

They did this study about people who argue on the internet (like political arguments, religious, etc) and found that they actually make themselves more depressed and agitated in real life, contributing to depression depending on how often they do it. Enjoy!

I have been reading the Bible to my children since they were 4. They came to me and said they wanted to accept Jesus as their Savior. Let me repeat. They came to me on their own volition, which is exactly how it works when accepting Jesus as your Savior. No pressure, no coercion, no controlling, no deception.

One of the most striking things about the whole God/Christian argument is how truly nonsensical it is at ever every level. There is NEVER any kind of logical answer for whether this God is involved, or not involved in our daily lives, or to what extent he chooses to insert himself.
If a man's son survives testicular cancer, it's because "God is great and loving". Six million Jews are gassed, shot, stabbed, tortured to death, and God sits on the sidelines for that one.
A multi-millionaire scores a touchdown during an NFL game and he gets down on his knee and points his finger to the sky to thank/praise God. Thousands of kids starve to death in Africa, and well you know,...can't be helped. As a side note, the multi-millionaires, (or the Roman Catholic/Mormon take your pick) churches could end all that poverty and suffering today, but you know, people need those billions for something really important.
You're sleepy from working overtime the day before and you barely avoid a serious wreck, so "God is looking out for you." Our ten year old girl is pinned by a drunk driver and .."well, free will is a b*tch*.
And of course..the ever popular praising God for the weather on "this beautiful Lords day", but when thousands die in a Tsunami-welp, "God sends rain to the just and the unjust".

You’re supposed to take it on “faith” that a pair of 8 year olds asked to accept a fictional character from a collection of ancient tales to be their savior and overlord. With absolutely no outside prompting, coercion or subtle suggestions (except for the 4 years of forced bible readings and once a week church services). Nothing at all fishy about it!
I'll check it out. There was no one being made fun of in Shiney, Happy People. Just sad, sordid and infuriating how these monsters treated these people.
When I was 8 (and younger) I didn't buy into any of those tales any more than I believed that George Reeves Superman character could fly or had x-ray vision.
