I think the issue is that people are coming at it from different perspectives, and that is understandable. If someone is an athiest/and/or doesn't think the Bible is the word of God, quoting scripture is not going to answer their question. That is an answer you would give a believer.

Yeah, but when they do quote from the buybull as they try to win an argument, it is good for a belly laugh. Cracks me up every time. Same as when they say that they’ll pray really, really hard that we’ll suddenly embrace the fairy tale, and accept JC as our master and overlord.

Hilarious!!

Where was it discussed? Are you okay with victim blaming rape victims?
You did dude. Look at pgs 39 and 40 of this thread...

And this person was not raped. As much as you want that to be the case, those two verses speak to a woman who is already married, and is cheating on her husband.

If she was being raped, she is in the city and can yell and cry out for help, where anyone would hear her to come and help...but she doesn't do that, because she is involved in a consensual affair...

Again, this was already brought up by you, and you are doing it again. Gets old.

Why does God victim blame? Yikes.

(Deuteronomy 22:23-24 NAB)

If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife.

This is a difficult passage for people to get in our culture. If she lived near people and was being raped, she could yell out for help. If she does not yell, it was assumed she was complicit in the adultery.

This is how you defend your position?😒
ROFL!! You are entertaining.

That was a different verse. Go back and look.

Also, read it again. Clearly there is victim blaming going on. Do you really believe all rape victims scream for help? They don't. Not if they're being threatened in many cases. Why would she scream out for help if it were consensual?

Even if it were somehow consensual, killing people for having sex is beyond barbaric.

I wish my brothers in Christ would follow our instructions and just ignore you, @crashtestdummy and your blind ilk. It took me awhile to remember what we're supposed to do with you.

You're free to chuckle a response, you'll get none from me.

But, but, but, it’s in the buybull. Therefore xians’ hands are tied. They must nod obediently and just go along with it. And approve of it. They damn sure ain’t going to say it’s just plain wrong. Hell, they’ve yet to denounce slavery and genocide. It’s been a pattern throughout this thread, and it ain’t changing any time soon.

Thoughts on infanticide, genocide or homicide from God in the Bible? Would you call those loving characteristics from an all-powerful and capable being?

Reminds me of the Life of Brian stoning scene haha. In Catholic grammar school our teachers told us to boycott Warner Brothers because of Life of Brian, despite none of them actually having seen the film. They actually told us to stop watching Bugs Bunny. I didn't; because even then I knew crazy when I saw it.

They would be stoning today, if they thought they could get away with it.

I’d be stoned today, if I could get away with it.

The atheists cannot stop posting about Christianity. They cannot stop.

And Jesus told us not to waste our time and God's resources on their hard hearts. They enjoy mocking Christians. I find them pitiful. I'll waste no more effort on them, pigs indeed.

Another example of that Christian love. Shouldn't you be on your knees somewhere? "prayin"

Christians aren't supposed to judge people. Come on, man.

Thoughts on God sending angels of death to kill babies? Thoughts on God summoning bears to maul children to death? Thoughts on God wiping the planet clean because he was mad instead of coming up with a more kind solution?

I'm afraid to ask why....
You should check it out. ...I doubt you'll turn into a crack head.
But possible you eat everything in the house.
Maybe once at a party but I don't remember. Drinking doesn't solve your problems, but sometimes it's nice to turn your brain off. As long as you don't overdo it.

Neither side moves an inch. You don't know what you are talking about. No you don't. No you don't lol.
This is from about two weeks ago; about the last time I even briefly checked this thread. As I posted in the first few pages of this thread, I don’t see too many minds being changed on either side. Everyone please carry on.

Where did it say the objective of this thread was to change minds?
Nice of you to demonstrate how high you levitate above us.

There isn't really any way to make sense of the Old Testament until we examine it in light of the history and the religious beliefs of the surrounding areas. Any attempt to understand the morality and behavior of ancient Mesopotamia through the lens of our modern morality, or even New Testament Christianity, is just going to look silly at best, and dishonest at worst.

All ethnic/cultural groups believe they are the chosen people, and in antiquity this belief was even more pronounced. Women of reproductive age were in short supply so if your tribe ran out of them, it was accepted practice to kidnap the women of he next tribe over. When you needed more land, or better land, for the tribe to survive, the tribe invaded a neighboring land, because it was promised by God. If you were victorious, it was standard practice to kill all the men (more mouths to feed) keep the women for reproduction, and sell off the kids to slavery. If you were defeated, it was because you had displeased God(s). . Life was just brutal, and the "religious" writings of the time, reflected that fact.

Blood sacrifice was a routine and necessary to keep God(s) from getting pissed and wrecking havoc on your land/tribe/family, whatever (because loving Gods just love to wreck havoc on random people.) If an ethnic group experienced drought, plague, famine, captivity from the next tribe over, it wasn't a natural phenomena, scientific, or even just dumb luck, it was that God(s) were angry and taking out their wrath on the offenders. Women having periods, or babies for that matter wasn't scientifically understood, so it was just assumed they were afflicted with some kind of curse..and on...and on and on.

Being stoned to death sounds like a terrible way to die. It would also take a long time, unless you just smash someone's head in with a big rock.
