Same with mine. He would talk about how everybody in the 30s and 40s would have a portrait of FDR hanging in their house, but not his (Grandpa's).
I'm the only Republican in my family.

God rest her soul, my late maternal grandmother, whom I loved more than anything, LOVED FDR. She often referred to herself as a yellow dog Democrat, lol. Of course, she grew up during the Great Depression and times were hard. To make matters even worse, on Christmas Eve, when my mom was only a very small child, the family home caught fire in the middle of the night. My grandparents had four daughters, with my mom being the youngest. Two of the girls perished in the fire. They lost half their family and every single thing they owned. She, and my aunt, who was the oldest child, told me several times over the years how it took many of the neighboring men to hold my grandfather back from going up the flame engulfed staircase to rescue his other two girls. I've lost a child, so I can only imagine his incredible grief and frustration. My God. But anyway, she always said the Democrats helped her family back then and she never, ever forgot it, and I guess I can understand, and respect that.

My grandmother always told me and my sister when we were growing up that the Dems were for the less well to do people, and the Pubs were for the wealthy. She hated Pubs, lol, and even made me promise, (when I was like 14 or 15), to always just walk into the voting booth and pull the Dem lever, and never vote Rep. Assuming I see her when I die, I'll have to apologize for that, no doubt. I did vote Dem until @ 2000 or so, and then I realized the truth and have voted Pub ever since.

Florida GOP Rep Carlos Gimenez : We're under cyber attack from russia everyday, I don't understand why would be standing down. It makes no sense

So our GDP is much greater than it was then?

Do you somehow think this means the government is spending less than it was then?
Means messing with the recipe is already showing impact on our GDP output, you try to chainsaw change to beat the courts and public opinion you risk really hurting the economy.
Shocker that's what its trending towards now.

So raise payroll taxes 15% on income over the max? That should be great for the economy & is the opposite of lowering taxes. And that excludes the wealth of the likes of Musk. And no reason today's workers should bear the burden of the mistakes of others. Either lower the benefit payment or raise the early retirement age to 65 & full retirement to 70. Also, freeze the payments to we higher level beneficiaries for some years, say five.
Never said that. I said higher income earners should pay SS tax on all their income, the same way they pay Medicare tax on all their income. I don't believe the full SS tax would need to be collected on every dollar of income. I don't know the reduced rate but I believe there is one that could fully fund SS. Delaying full retirement wouldn't reduce the number of recipients necessarily, only delay receiving bigger payments.

Or, establish a donut hole so $x from max benefit to another higher level is not subject to SS, but additional income is (again, at a reduced rate).

If we want SS to survive, we have to fund it with more dollars unless the waste and abuse elimination puts it back into the black. If we as a country don't care about preserving SS, I'm on board. But, many Americans rely heavily on it and doing away with it is political suicide.

Reducing benefits is a political nonstarter, imo. I'd be fine with no COLA or means-tested COLA for higher income recipients.

Your 'horrible for the economy' argument, I believe, is inaccurate. For many high earners, their excess income doesn't necessarily go into additional spending/consuming but into investments like the stock market. That wouldn't affect consumer spending to the extent you think it would, imo.

You have a remarkable ability to point out problems and flaws in others arguments, but offer almost no potential solutions. Not very helpful in a debate/commentary format such as this board.

Gas in my area is down to around 2.60 per gallon. This is low as I recall it being in a while. Seems like it averaged around 2.90-3.30 during Biden’s term. I know it’s off season for travel but let’s hope this trend continues.
Agree. IF it stay in that range or lower, should see prices start coming down.

Ah, yes. When trying to achieve a peace deal, it’s important to antagonize the ones you’re trying to get to the table.
ah yes, should concede american domestic security to HOPE russia comes to the negotiation table.
This way Komrade here are the path ways to our infrastructure systems.

There's a lot more going on in the world then just Russia invading Ukraine.
And the US shouldn't stop protecting Americans so Trump can kiss up to his boss Putin.

Then what is this: " tax all income, at least to some extent over the current inome max," if not 15% - 7.65% from your check & 7.65% from your employer?

I don't believe the full SS tax would need to be collected on every dollar of income. I don't know the reduced rate but I believe there is one that could fully fund SS. Delaying full retirement wouldn't reduce the number of recipients necessarily, only delay receiving bigger payments.
Regardless, it's still raising taxes on working folks which imo will hurt the economy.

I want it changed, not survival.

You're raising taxes. When hasn't that hurt the economy?

I've stated my ideas for SS repeatedly here. That you don't recall them ain't my problem. That some are political non-starters doesn't make them bad.

Just tell me what problem you want me to solve? State your solution to it first.

It would truly be awful if we had deficits and uncertainty, no doubt.

How did the February 28th boycott go for the Dems?

Did the economy crash over the weekend?

Idiots. Trumponomics. Hard to sell sh** to a world that hates your guts

Are you paid to spam this thread with this shit Sam? Teacher retirement isn’t great I know. But give it a break from time to time. Your USAID money has to be drying up a little. Or maybe that’s why you’re so desperate.

We get it, you're an avid consumer of Constant Crisis, TDS infused, USAID bought and paid for media.
