Seems like everyone is in agreement that US based companies should not be able to import cheap foreign workers if the domestic talent is available, though potentially more expensive.

This all feels like the democrat resistance to cleaning up voter roles or having voter ID. If you don’t think there’s an issue, and the processes are working to safeguard America, then why resist efforts to clean things up?

His big one was his red tape regulations on capitalism. Another was him being in the pockets of China to force feed EV vehicles upon this country.

Your ignorance never ceases to amaze.
You're such an idiot. You regurgitate the words "communism" and "socialism" with no clue what the words actually mean.
Red tape regulations are not communism. It's government policies.
You may not like the policies....but it's not even close to communism. 🤣
Communism is when the government takes complete charge of factories, businesses and all means of production.
Please cite the source showing that Biden seized control of Ford Motor Company and took over production of all motor vehicles in America.
Are you even aware of the battery plants being built in Ky so we don't have to be dependent on China for our EVs?
Educate yourself about the true definition of communism before sounding like a chicken little alarmist. 🐣

Since when in our history have immigrants not been the basis for entry level cheap manual or factory labor???
But you think that ends in 2025? Only if you wanna see our economy tank.
There aren't enough Americans to fill all those needed jobs and we are currently at a zero birth rate in this country.
Whether you tighty righties like it or not.... We need immigrants badly or this economy dies.

If there should be any blowback on the h1b visas, it should be in the medical community. If you want to see a profession where greed used imports to drive down American wages, there you go.

Essentially most every hospital uses these for cheap er labor. Since the foreign md candidate has to do 2 years here (iirc) before they have a full license, they get stuck in the er working 80 hours a week for about 40k. If they are a specialist or higher, they get used as slave labor there too.

In that industry, the abuse of these visas absolutely do drive down us wages and they effectively created this shortage of doctors we now have. I say abuse caused it because this practice of low wage is supposed to be disallowed but apparently noone looks into it.

The problem explaining this to people is the lack of real education about how markets work. Real estate illustrates the lesson well, but few are taught how.

Chevy Chase in Lexington is a high end market. Homes there sell for phenomenally higher prices when compared to existing homes along Versailles Rd near Mason Headley. An appraiser CANNOT use a comparable sale from that area of Versailles Rd to estimate value on a property located on DeShay in Chevy Chase. It's an entirely different market.

What we have allowed the govt to do is bring in homes from a trailer park and put them on lots with the value of Chevy Chase lots. That's what "open markets" do, and it doesn't RAISE values for the double wide they brought in. It LOWERS values for the rest of the homes in the vicinity and eventually the entire subdivision as more mobile homes are added.

The point in MARKETS is that the products need to be produced in the market area and support the values of a market area, or it hurts the market. Competition WITHIN the market area is good. Competition from outside the market leads to an imbalance that destroys the market value in both wages and property value.

If the govt is not going to hang tariffs on goods imported from other markets with much lower wage scales and values, then they need to lower taxes and fees by the proportional difference in wages of those in the outside market, because the budget and the entire market is unsustainable otherwise, as this govt has well proven.

That may be correct in some instances but the industry will lay older employees off who are high earners to replace them with H1Bs. They will also follow DEI to ensure the right people are hired that meet the correct criteria while paying them less since they do not have the skills or experience. They use DEI to adjust the percentages of who they employ to ensure they meet certain criteria even tying SLT bonuses to hiring success.

Most of these companies are still hiring while laying people off. They will jettison high performers instead of moving them to a new product. They used to move high performing employees to a new team but now they lay them off and hire cheaper labor.

There are no older workers. There are hardly any programmers that have gray hair, let alone aging.

The whole issue about h1b is some hypothetical nonsense from people with no knowledge of that industry and its uniqueness. Theyre just plain wrong.

The answer is to clean up our education system so there isnt a need to import talent.

As I said, you illiterate dunce, if Americans are available, cheap foreign labor shouldn’t be imported to do the jobs.

It's amazing how much has changed from December 2016-December 2024.

I was watching Man in the Arena, that Tom Brady doc the other day and was reminded of how he didn't go to the White House for the Super Bowl celebration cause of fear of media with Trump. And how everything was just constant hysteria from the left.

All that has changed really is just fatigue of the left and seeing how much the Democrat Party sucks ass with the four years they just gave us. Trump didn't do anything. It's just what the left has done--- create chaos, kill the economy, flood your country with illegals and crime, try to imprison and murder their political opposition.

In my "heyday", though I was just a little guy compared to others in my area, I worked 30 people and even paid a portion of their health insurance. People came from all over the United States to our area to buy goods to take home and sell on routes to stores. They drove big trucks they bought from somebody. They stAyed in local motels both here and when on their sales routes. We bought raw goods from suppliers in the Carolina textile mills and from the steel industry among other places. We as a country started importing goods made with slave labor from China. We couldn't compete, so our industry and related jobs are gone.

This is a dumb decision and something he would've done in his first term as well. MAGA does not f'g want people like Mike Johnson.

Hopefully Trump gained access to whatever compromising information the establishment has been using to keep Johnson in line. He sucks, sucks doubly with Thune leading the Senate.

I understand wanting to avoid a political fight for Speaker before even getting started on the MAGA agenda, but think this could backfire in a major way. Johnson is an establishment cuck.

No, it's not dumb. What's President Trump going to do at this point? Completely alienate him? You have to try something and that something was easy. President Trump knows he has four years. Time is crucial. An extended fight will not allow it... If plan B is required, who knows...

Vikings and Lions fans are the new money "lottery winners" that join the blue blood country club, pull up in a tricked out Hummer, shoot 130 with their new 3000 dollar irons (never fixing their prodigious divots), and order chicken fingers and a Diet Coke with no ice at dinner, "and DON'T get stingy with the Ranch dressing..."

Yea, I mean plenty of Americans around to pick vegetables, fruits and nuts in CA. Nice weather to boot. What's not to like.

And a lot more to clean hotel rooms.

I want so desperately for a Super Bowl of the Bills vs Vikings/Lions. So desperately bad which means we will probably get Chiefs and Eagles or something.

Lions are in the midst building a dynasty right now

That’s my point, you illiterate dumbass. Google, Facebook, Apple, etc. should be forced to choose from the talent pool they’ve helped destroy.

Or, if you think the American education system is pumping out enough qualified candidates, then clearly the H1B system is just about importing cheap labor.

Americans who are succeeding are doing it in spite of the failing school systems.
H1B has a purpose but is being exploited by companies for cheaper labor. Exploiting loopholes to save money and increase bottom lines and profits = what every company does in this free market. Profit is all they care about. You think google, Facebook, etc care about who they hire other than how much they cost (assuming skills are equal)? No they don’t. They only care about money. Am I concerned about it some? Yep. As a father of a son graduating soon with a computer engineering degree, I’d like to think that degree would be useful.

Also get your panties out of a wad. Those companies “didn’t help destroy the talent pool”. And yes our schools are still pumping out qualified candidates. I realize the algorithms on X for you are always pumping out fake news stories about woke teachers but the reality is much different. Software engineers, computer science majors, etc are still graduating with the skills needed despite you thinking that every teacher in colleges across America is teaching in drag and using a rainbow colored pen to grade papers. Grow up.

"Donald Trump .... is right to endorse the value of H-1B visas in the dispute between Elon Musk and Steve Bannon. Mr. Trump is choosing the side of enlightened nationalism, as opposed to the blinkered, declinist version.

..... Mr. Trump told the New York Post. “I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program.”

Mr. Trump may be confusing the H-1B program with the H-2B visas he has used for workers at his hotel properties. But the point is that both are legal programs that help to fill labor needs in the U.S. economy. Unlike illegal migration, these programs don’t offend the rule of law or risk importing criminals.

Mr. Trump’s position isn’t surprising since he has often said he favors skilled immigration. In June he told a podcast with Silicon Valley potentates that if “anybody graduates from a college, you go in there for two years or four years, if you graduate, or you get a doctorate degree from a college, you should be able to stay in this country.”

Many of those foreign graduates who remain in the U.S. do so under H-1B visas, which are sponsored by companies. The program is small—capped at 85,000 a year—and has reached its quota every year since 2004."

"The U.S. jobless rate for computer and math jobs rate for computer and math jobs was 2.5%, and 2% for architecture and engineering,"

"Some critics say H-1B visas let companies pay less than U.S. workers earn, but under the law employers must pay H-1B visa holders the higher of the prevailing wage or actual wage paid to comparable U.S. workers. Mr. Anderson says the average annual salary for an H-1B visa holder in 2023 for computer-related jobs was $132,000, according to U.S. immigration data. This isn’t exploitation of cheap labor.

The U.S. is in a global competition for economic and technological leadership, and U.S. firms need the best talent. Studies show that when applicants are denied H-1Bs, they go abroad. “For the most global multinational companies, this is at almost a 1-1 rate,” Britta Glennon of the Wharton School told Mr. Anderson in an interview based on her study.

There have been some abuses of the H-1B program, but they are no reason to shrink or eliminate it. U.S. companies find it crucial to compete. And one way to reduce illegal immigration is to allow more legal pathways to meet the needs of the U.S. economy.
Some conservatives want to define nationalism solely by geography and ethnicity. But the U.S. has thrived because it has invited talented newcomers from many nations who add to U.S. strength and vitality. This is intelligent nationalism of the kind we assume Mr. Trump wants."

You guys grooming children is aside from the educational failings (though not entirely unrelated).

Those companies “didn’t help destroy the talent pool”. And yes our schools are still pumping out qualified candidates. Grow up.
You are the one who needs to understand what the F is actually going on before you start to tell people to mature.

The companies who use H1Bs directly caused the current lack of qualified electronic engineers in this country. They did so by not giving graduates jobs. Those graduates had to then pivot into another field. Once word got out that the grift was on people stopped studying EE in depth because they knew Punbob and Rick from India already had their jobs. Now the EE pool is empty so the companies can just say, "look, see, no one is there to hire," and then they hire all the H1Bs they want.

It is fraud, they are still doing it, and it is done on purpose to facilitate their greed.

Way to deflect as usual

That’s not a deflection, you dunce. You agreed with me in your first paragraph then just said schools aren’t failing just because some of you lefties prioritize grooming children over educating them. Schools are failing, by most measures and in comparison to the world, regardless of the grooming.

Thats not accurate at all. There’s a cap on H-1B that can be brought in but you’re saying so many are being brought in by companies that the graduating population of this country just stopped trying to be EEs? Come on man.

Agree on corporate “greed” though and just so I’m clear. So you’re good with the government stepping in here and stopping these practices of hiring cheaper labor that are clearly just to boost profits? Sounds like it. And I agree. Now let’s take that thought into other industries. Any problem regulating industries like grocery chains, fast food, etc that clearly raised prices for no reason other than corporate greed? Or is that idea too far out there? And if so, why? To me, raising prices on groceries because they could get away with it during a pandemic is pure evil and crushed a lot of families.

Reminds me of how much the media and the officials took care of Brady while he was a player. Had no idea he was such a wuss that he didn't go to the WH because of Trump. What a complete dchebag. I had some respect for him as a player and a person at one point. Now none as a player or person. (Not that he cares, of course)
