As much as i love the teachers in my life, and its a boon for them, as a matter of equity and fairness this is an incorrect outcome. These people never paid a dime into the fund yet now will get the same benefit.

Not always the case. Many teachers worked jobs before they became teachers. They deserve to at least get back what they paid in for those years of work.
I don't think anything stopped them from doing so if they paid in enough quarters in that other job. Im not sure the qualifications required in this bill or if there are any. Guess we will see.
