New study: Lockdowns & masks are useless and might even increase COVID-19 spread
November 16, 2020 12:03 am Robert Zimmerman
A recently completed research study by Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in cooperation with the Naval Medical Research Center and published in the New England Journal of Medicine has found that strict quarantine, tightly controlled social distancing, and continuous use of masks did absolutely nothing to contain the spread of COVID-19, and might even have increased its spread.
First, the study used 1,843 Marine volunteers, individuals well trained to follow orders as well as the required procedures. Second, their quarantine took place at Marine facility under the supervision of the military. Both factors meant that the volunteers were going to follow procedures much more correctly than the general public.
Third, no one could enter the study without undergoing 14-days of quarantine beforehand, plus a test to prove they were negative of COVID-19 at the study’s start. The study itself was held in a tightly controlled quarantine campus run by the Marines.
The volunteers then had to follow this incredibly strict quarantine regiment:
All recruits wore double-layered cloth masks at all times indoors and outdoors, except when sleeping or eating; practiced social distancing of at least 6 feet; were not allowed to leave campus; did not have access to personal electronics and other items that might contribute to surface transmission; and routinely washed their hands. They slept in double-occupancy rooms with sinks, ate in shared dining facilities, and used shared bathrooms. All recruits cleaned their rooms daily, sanitized bathrooms after each use with bleach wipes, and ate preplated meals in a dining hall that was cleaned with bleach after each platoon had eaten. Most instruction and exercises were conducted outdoors. All movement of recruits was supervised, and unidirectional flow was implemented, with designated building entry and exit points to minimize contact among persons. All recruits, regardless of participation in the study, underwent daily temperature and symptom screening. Six instructors who were assigned to each platoon worked in 8-hour shifts and enforced the quarantine measures. If recruits reported any signs or symptoms consistent with Covid-19, they reported to sick call, underwent rapid qPCR testing for SARS-CoV-2, and were placed in isolation pending the results of testing.
Instructors were also restricted to campus, were required to wear masks, were provided with preplated meals, and underwent daily temperature checks and symptom screening. Instructors who were assigned to a platoon in which a positive case was diagnosed underwent rapid qPCR testing for SARS-CoV-2, and, if the result was positive, the instructor was removed from duty. Recruits and instructors were prohibited from interacting with campus support staff, such as janitorial and food-service personnel. After each class completed quarantine, a deep bleach cleaning of surfaces was performed in the bathrooms, showers, bedrooms, and hallways in the dormitories, and the dormitory remained unoccupied for at least 72 hours before reoccupancy.
The result? The virus still spread through this population. As they noted in the paper:
Epidemiologic analysis supported multiple local transmission events, including transmission between roommates and among recruits within the same platoon.
None of these strict lock down mandates, including continuous mask use, did anything to prevent transmission.
More significantly, the control group of Marines who did not participate in this study, and thus were not under the same strict lock down rules, actually saw fewer infections, as shown on the table from the study to the right.

While the difference wasn’t very large, it existed nonetheless. One could argue that the overuse of masks probably contributed to the higher numbers in the study group, since even in this tightly controlled setting it is still impossible to expect people to wear masks properly. Even if they replaced them regularly, it is unrealistic to expect people to never touch them while they wear them. Over long periods the masks will become havens for the virus, where the person breathes.
The study also demonstrated once again the relative harmlessness of the disease. Almost all of these young healthy Marine recruits who tested positive were asymptomatic, meaning that they wouldn’t have even known they were infected if they had not been participating. Furthermore, it appears no one even got very sick.
Once again, this data continues to reinforce the very very early data from March. COVID-19 is not dangerous to the young or healthy, and it will spread no matter what you do. The best way to beat it and thus protect the vulnerable older and sick population is to have it spread as fast as possible through the young and healthy population, so that it will die out quickly and thus no longer be a threat.
This is how humans have handled these respiratory diseases since time immemorial. Darwin’s rules made us do it that way, with good results. Too bad our bankrupt political leaders and health officials have decided to abandon these well-proven practices. The result has not only been more COVID-19 deaths, but more deaths overall, from the bad consequences of economic loss, depression, reduced medical treatment available for other illnesses, and numerous other issues caused by the lock downs, not the virus..
Sadly, I fully expect that our fans of lock downs and masks will either refuse to read this study, or if they do, will find any excuse to dismiss it.

No more appropriate meme for this wacko board than this. Cue the juvenile attempts to incorporate this meme by the subject of the meme---Trumpsters! LOL

I agree, surely Georgia can do better than this. I lived in Georgia for over 20 years and I have never seen a political party (the GOP) so afraid of the word racist. They will run like a deer to get away from being called that. And Democrats know it and use it over and over.

I honestly believe Kemp is scared to death of Stacey Abrams. She is running this election and has been planning for it a couple of years now. Kemp will not say a word and he needs to go.

Some great info here on what's really happening in GA. Sounds like your governor and sos are total crooks. Hopefully Lin can bring them down.

Bill, the lawsuit was filed in August 2013, 39 months before he was elected. Trump did what he always does and tries to draw it out as long as possible running up the legal fees of the plaintiff.
You call me a partisan hack yet you lie and make excuses for the inexcusable. There’s a reason Trump has been sued over 3600 times. He’s a POS and you know it.
Whether he's a POS or not is irrelevant to the fact he has kept us out of wars, fought to bring troops home from endless and pointless battles, brokered several Middle East peace deals. Stood up to China (more than likely leading to the release of the china flu, IMO), lowered mine and many many others taxes. Had the economy roaring at historic levels. Made it to where there were more jobs available than people to fill them, meaning job security for millions and millions. Brought a lot of manufacturing back from overseas and Mexico. Worked to secure our borders. raised wages for the lowest paid Americans without having to force a $15 minimum wage referendum down our throats. Created Opportunity Zones in underserved and mostly minority areas, made HBCU funding permanent, managed to get a Prison Reform act passed, releasing a lot of non-violent offenders who didn't deserve to be locked up for the length of time they were.

There isn't a sane human being out there who can dispute that any of those achievements helped American's of ALL walks of life. but because Trumps a meany and gives you the feels, on top of the fact that most of those achievements also get in the way of the left and the rest of the world implementing their Great Reset and Globalist agenda.

Nobody gave a shit about Trumps past. He has been a larger than life public figure since the 70's/80's. If ANYONE didn't know what kind of person Trump was before he ran for President, they were living under a rock. The biggest reason for the Trump hate fest and demonizing is because he dared expose the deep state and it's corruption. He brought it to the forefront and I guess exposing other POS's for their POS criminal, treasonous, behavior makes him enemy number 1. Considering all the great things he was able to accomplish with the weight of the world bearing down on him, he's the best POS we could have asked for. I can personally attest that my life was better and improved under a Trump presidency, regardless of how much of a POS he ever was. My job was more secure than ever, I was taking more of my paycheck home than ever, my 401K was doing great. The industry I work in was booming.

I honestly challenge you to explain how my life will be better or continue to improve under Harris/Biden. I really need to know and understand how his policies will continue to improve my life?

And for reference, I'm an in-house Architect for a Large Restaurant Franchisee, just so you can't blow it off by saying you don't know my situation.

They're about to take me phone
Blood pressure 178 over 131. Heartbeat 156 bpm. Scared to death fellas. Something's wrong. I can feel it.

Hopefully it's just anxiety and you'll be ok

With the inauguration of Biden / Harris I would say it is on life support. If Democrats realize they can control the vote and get away with it, what is to stop them from doing this forever. Democrats do not like elections or our constitution.

The U.S. is over as founded.

Yep that's why this is such an important stand even if it doesn't work. They can't feel comfortable enough to cheat like this again especially in Ga in January. Because if they win that...

Sweden has the highest per capita death rate for covid....... twice the US's.... but sure..... go ahead and just advocate for herd immunity......... even though Sweden's guy that pushed for herd immunity has said so far it hasnt worked.

Because they're much further in their race than anyone else. If covid was a mile long run, Sweden is at the .8 or .9 mark. Everyone else (especially their neighbors) are at .3 or so.

The lack of critical thinking in people that attack the swedes is a great illustration of how we got here.

Congressional think tank review of the Trump tax cuts. They literally did nothing to help the economy. No effect on wages, no effect on growth, no effect on business investment, didn't even begin to pay for itself, so far had recovered 5% of it's cost,. Just another GoP handout to already rich corporate boards.

Go jump your loon ass into the GD Ohio River and shut the hell up.

But wait the liberals and media have told us for months that Trump is the only one who has blown it when it comes to Covid.

Sweden has the highest per capita death rate for covid....... twice the US's.... but sure..... go ahead and just advocate for herd immunity......... even though Sweden's guy that pushed for herd immunity has said so far it hasnt worked.

Nice post.

Please tell me you are the architect for “Cook Out” :)

I wear a mask everyday and still caught covid, but the masks protect others, not yourself. Again I wear one religiously as I work at a hospital. I was just devastated to be positive. Yesterday, about a week after being diagnosed, Saturday I mean, was literally the worst I've ever felt. 104.3 temperature when I woke up. It went down to normal. But today it's 102. I should add I have no spleen from the IED blast. That's why it's wreaking havoc on me.

If up to me I'd plead with you to wear one in public as the cases are multiplying exponentially. We were told up to 600,00 deaths by March. But the vaccines are coming soon so make your own mask decisions and be prepared to live with the repercussions. It almost seems like covid will eventually get you no matter what.

I'd rather have covid the rest of my life than continue down the dark road we've been hurtling towards for decades as a country. Im not getting political cause I couldn't care less at this point.
You say you work in a Hospital, Are you able to elaborate on what you do there? Are you working directly with COVID patients? It would be nice to get a level of understanding from someone on the front lines about the illness. how many of the patients are there fighting Covid and ONLY Covid. How many have multiple comorbidities which are complicated by COVID? What would you say the average age of the Patients is? I guess my question is are all of the lockdown measures necessary for lower risk demographics? or would we be better off focusing the efforts on protecting the highest risk people knowing that low risk people who get it will basically have nothing more than a flu bug.

My 19 year old son got it while at UK. he lives with his brother and two other roommates in an apartment. They made them all self quarantine. My Son recovered with only mild symptoms in about 3-4 days. His Brother and roommates never tested positive despite being exposed to him. My neighbers 26 year old Med student son up in Michigan went through a similar scenario. Had a roommate come down with it, they all isolated with him but never tested positive for it.

I hate wearing a mask. I hate the feeling, I hate the mental control aspect of it, but like a good boy, I do it where I'm asked to. When outside the confines of my office at work, and in the stores. I take it off once I'm outdoors. It's a shitty homemade mask. Most of the masks people are wearing are shitty chinese made masks or homemade masks. they honestly aren't protecting much. people constantly fiddle with them, you know damn good and well they aren't getting washed after every use, so what point are they really serving other than mental comfort?

If it’s easier for you to believe that the FBI, CIA, NSA, DoD and hundreds and hundreds of politicians on both sides of the aisle are in a grand conspiracy to overthrow Trump versus the idea that he botched the response to the biggest crisis of our lifetimes resulting in his loss what’s the point of discussion? If you think everyone and everything is against you there’s a diagnosis for that.

I'm sure he will be. But Abrams nearly beat Kemp. Doesnt look good for the next election there. But Kemp dug his own grave.

Vernon Jones.

Deep down, I think they want to dodge this situation (even if it costs T the election), and then clean up the mess after Jan 20.

Addressing it head on now is going to expose a bunch of dirty secrets.

If the Democrats have nothing to hide than why are they hiding? Just do a full audit and recanvass in Georgia like they said they were going to do. If it doesn't turn out any major irregularities I think most Republicans would accept it. They won't though because they're hiding something major.

Crisis?! LOL Covid is way overblown horseshit. Yes, it’s real. It is blown out of proportion, though.

And yet nothing happened with the lawsuit until he became President?

I haven’t lied about anything, nor am I excusing. What exactly is inexcusable?

Obama admin was awful, they were ajoke foreign policy wise, they used the govt as a weapon against their political enemies, they was no transparency and no media accountability. They also intentionally undermined an incoming admin, and then he campaigned in the next election after leaving office, Presudents go away for awhile to let the next guy handle the job, not Obama. That is inexcusable, not tweets.

Trump on the other hand is transparent if he’s nothing else. He gave press conferences almost daily. There wasn’t this “ an aide says” BS, it came from his mouth.
He kept campaign promises, he held China to account, renegotiated NAFTA, and we all benefitted.
I didn’t agree with him on everything not much of his crassness. However, the level of bullshit from the left was over the top. The guy never had one day of peace in his admin.
The only transparent thing about Trump is his lack of intellect. How can you call someone who stonewalls every investigation, “transparent”? Someone who refuses to comply with subpoenas, refused to allow people to testify, as “transparent”?

Bill, it took the Trump U lawsuit 3 yrs to get settled,,,that is rather typical especially when one party purposely draws things out. Trump has been sued like 3600 times...it’s what he does

Hows that repeal and replacement of ObamaCare coming? Where is that wall? Mexico paid for anything yet? We’ve discussed NAFTA...the new agreement is nearly identical and has made very little difference. Come Jan 21 there will be little left of Trump’s so-called accomplishments. A lot of EOs that will disappear. How has China been held account for anything? Because he mean Tweeted them?

Trump insulted our allies and gave comfort to dictators who knew to stroke him with kind words to sooth his ego and they can get away with anything.
He has lied to the American people non-stop even before he was elected... how many conspiracies did he give life?
He told you what you wanted to hear so you would give him unconditional loyalty. He played to his base, I guess acting like a jackass made them all feel better about thems
