For one, the percentage of car that had to be made in America, and that workers pay must be an avg 16.21 an hour for 40% of cars, and 45% of light truck production.
Mexico already meets that pay% threshold so it changes nothing. It just changed from a RVC to a more complicated LVC that is easy to game. And they can fudge the R&D numbers to get a 15% reduction to any standards. And those things don't save us money, they will maybe very slightly increase costs in Mexico which will be passed on to consumers. Mexico also get to exempt 1.6mil vehicles from the rule, well under the 1million they estimate don't already conform to the new rules. Canada and Mexico both get permanent exemption to any national emergency auto tariffs. Its a lot of political bullshit that effectively changes nothing.
Right now the US only supplies 50% of its auto needs and can't hire enough people to boost production. So any massive changes to global production only costs us more money not saves.
Read this if you want a smart breakdown of USMCA's potential effects.

You're nuts if you believe the US can't hire enough people to cover auto production, that's called swallowing the bait.
Mexico does not meet the wage scale, and if they don't there is a 2.5% tariff.

You can discredit the USMCA, anything to prevent acknowledging Trump did a good job, just don't expect people to believe you.

You just pointed out the main flaw of the small changes in USMCA. if Mexico chooses to ignore the entire deal they can opt in to the 2.5% tariff instead. that clause is built into USMCA. if you think 2.5% is enough to shift production to the US you smoke the real good shit. Especially with UAW pushing for strike atm in the new negotiations. A tariff only hurts car buyers.

What were discussing here Platinum? What do you think that 2.5% tariff would be, dollarwise? It’s a penalty they pay if they don’t follow the agreement.

You don’t want Mexican workers to get a raise? Or shift production to the US?

Mexico exports 100 billion in autos to the US so thats 2 billion tax on american consumers.
Both of those things would be nice but neither will happen with USMCA. It is just NAFTA with a new name and some useless words added in so Trump could claim a "win". Just like with the China trade war, none of the manufacturing plants are coming to the US. Just finding new countries to exploit.

Fake news.

This just shows how sad it is that Republicans blame everything on the MSM. Fox the highest rated get 1.4million viewers a day. Thats a STAGGERING .4% of the population. Just show how little people watch or give a shit about politics and news. and at least 30% of those numbers is just TV's turned on at businesses that nobody is watching.

The 5% tariff that Trump threatened to slap on all Mexican imports would have raised $17.3 Billion in taxes. I think that would have paid for the wall rather quickly. Fortunately, the Mexicans decided to help slow the immigrant flow before the tariff was imposed.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/31/how-much-trumps-mexico-tariffs-could-cost-you.html
And the savings of not housing and paying for those that would have come is paying for the wall so, Mexico is paying.

Trump is such a loser and a terrible liar. Doral was sued and lost for bedbugs 2 years ago.

Good to know liberals do care about epidemics. Bed bugs at rich people resorts, by god stop the presses.

Rats, typhus, human feces, drugs in the streets of liberal cities and the resulting environmental and health issues...whoa nelly, nothing to see here...pointing such things out is racist the President should stop badgering/bullying the leaders from those places...

Why wouldn’t either happen? Don’t you think it’s a worthy cause to negotiate for workers to have higher wages? That’s just one aspect of the USMCA, autos that is.

Don’t be so negative, you don’t have to be against everything Trump is proposing.

I cannot remember one person on here that thought Trump literally meant Mexico was going to write a check for the Wall. Went to a rally before he was elected and not one person I met there thought he was going to get a check either. Everyone I talked to knew it was going to come out of a new trade deal. This whole "Trump supporters expected him to get Mexico to write a check for the Wall" is complete BS.
