Listening to the news this morning on the radio, and it's just pathetically hilarious. Amazon burning is further proof of climate change. Trump can't claim any share of the economy success. Surveys show voters unlikely to reelect trump despite such a good economy

Lol on and on. It's literally exhausting to hear. Do they know there's more news out there besides anti trump nonsense? Or just something other than politics in general?

I guess we're well beyond hope of ever returning to normal actual news.

Journalism is dead.

So now we are getting to the point where we can justify his idiotic statements by inquiring if he was kidding? According to reports, he asked more than once. Was he kidding both times?

It's amazing the lengths some of you will go to in order to defend a dumb@ss. Every boneheaded thing he does is now countered by fake news (Warrior cat's speciality) or now "oh, he was just joking." If this was an isolated comment, it would be one thing, but it's every week with him. Was he kidding when he said windmills cause cancer? Was that another one of his jokes. You guys need to wake up and realize that the POTUS is not a very smart man

We don't even know if he said it, and what if he did. Don't you think there's a ton of ideas floated in closed door meetings, the difference is now everything is reported.

Like I said, who reported it? What was the context, and yes it does matter if he was joking, people joke in closed meetings that are thought to be private.

I'm not defending Trump, but damn, this kind of reporting is nonsense.

I suspect "they" think that once we get to a more normal time - meaning when a Democrat is in the White House or at least someone not so much like Hitler in their view - then the media will be able to return to a more normal state. I don't think that can happen. Rubicon has been crossed. They have squandered all credibility, as far as half the country is concerned. The other half, the choir they preach to, will lose the zeal they now have. Once Trump is gone, media won't be able to survive catering to one half of the country, like they are able to do now since that one-half is hyper engaged in a frenzy. In short, they are cooked long term.....

News media in this country died in 2017. All that's left are final arrangements......

This is a great point. Literally everything is out there now. It didn't used to be like that. And thanks to social media, every Tom, Dick, and Harry has a platform to say whatever the hell they want, and worse, people believe most of the shit they see on Twitter.

Sure. What sucks is that we have a POTUS who gets his daily briefings and talking points from cable TV news shows. Trump is 100% incapable of playing the long game. His views are literally shaped...daily...by talking heads on Fox. That is pathetic, no matter what network he chooses to watch for hours during his....”executive time.”

“Let’s just drone these US citizens off the map without due process”

“Let’s use the IRS to target citizens I don’t like”

“Let’s send a shitload of heavy weaponry to Mexico and not track it”

“Let’s force all US citizens to buy products they don’t want from companies they don’t want to deal with”

“Let’s use the entire intelligence apparatus of the US, along with our ‘allies’ to try and overthrow the duly elected President”

Can you imagine how different things would be if Obama surrounded himself with actual advisors who respected the law, and ran ideas past them rather than giving orders?

Edit:

Trump: can we nuke a hurricane?
Advisors: no
Trump: got it

Obama: lets kill this us citizen
Advisors:...
Obama: fire away

I would argue it died with the journOlist in 2007 followed by them moving that coordination to twitter. Their digital footprints and inability to not be smarmy jackasses finished it off.

I really am perplexed by this whole hurricane nuke thing. Let’s assume it’s true, and Trump asked if we can nuke hurricanes.

Aren’t you all curious as to what would happen if we nuked a hurricane? Like maybe it’s been modeled out and people have looked into it, but I’d have to search the internet to find that information. On the other hand, Trump has some of the top scientists in the world at his disposal. Why not ask what happens if we nuke a hurricane if you’re curious?

And apparently the other hearsay quote was just “blow up”. So yeah what would happen if we detonate a giant non-nuclear bomb in a storm that’s starting to form.

Are you all not curious as to what would happen? Would love to see a gif modeling out the explosion and any impact on the storm.

This is why I don’t take any lefties serious regarding global warming. Someone asks a scientific question, and they just shout them down because it’s the popular thing to do.

“Derp derp we cant bomb a hurricane because Rachel Maddow says other celebrities who I should think like also say we can’t bomb a hurricane”.

He could kill 2 birds with one stone and drop the nuke right as the hurricane is passing over ocean windmills. Imagine going down in history as the POTUS who ended hurricanes AND cancer.

Hint - that's sarcasm, you thin skinned Trump garglers.
He could drop one on Broward County next time one blows through there.

Most of us Floridians would welcome that.

Seriously though Florida needs hurricanes. Without their rain and tropical storms we dry up and become Arizona. So bring them on we will be ready. We can do without the property damage but Mother Nature does not care about that. The water from the storm is our life blood so let it be.

Exactly and why Joe "goes to great lengths" NOT to discuss his side's candidates.

I don't discuss "my candidates side's" because I haven't settled on who I will vote for in the election. It is over a year away and haven't followed the dem debates all that closely. There are still like 18 candidates. Didn't vote for Hillary or Toledo Don in '16 and at the rate we are going, I don't know if I will vote for either in '20

Yeah, you could argue the demise happened at several different earlier dates if you're talking about when did the media stop being honest and set course towards its own destruction. For that, I'd argue sometime in the 1970s probably.

I'm talking about when they finally threw pretense to the wind and came out strong as advocates for one particular side, when it became obvious and undeniable to everyone, and they could no longer say it was conservative paranoia or a Republican talking point.

From a poll just last week:

"78% of voters say that what reporters do with political news is promote their agenda. They think they use incidents as props for their agenda rather than seeking accurately record what happened. Only 14% think that a journalist is actually reporting what happened... If a reporter found out something that would hurt their favorite candidate, only 36% of voters think that they would report that."

The business model is dying, so they double down on their own destruction by forfeiting credibility.

Only backwards uneducated rednecks don't know what happens when you nuke a hurricane.

Agree with this. Essentially, "news" no longer sells. We have instant access to everything now, so we don't watch the "news" to see what the weather is, what happened in the sports world, etc. What was once known as news has been replaced almost holistically by opinions. People are naturally drawn to hear opinions that confirm their own biases. Hence, people who are more liberal (assuming they watch cable news at all) watch CNN or MSNBC. People who are more conservative watch Fox News.

I would point out, however, that on a given night a total of 4-5mm people consume cable news - about one of every 80 people in the country. For that reason, I question how much influence they really have.

It is almost like WWII level propaganda. It is truly socialist style news.

Thank god we have people willing to ask questions leading the free world, and not science denying lunatics like you lefties.

If it were up to the lefties, the world would still be flat, we’d be bleeding fevers out of people, we’d all be riding horseback, etc.

Thank god Donald Trump is willing to ask what’s possible, rather than relying on the science denying left who likes to agree things aren’t possible because it’s popular.
Good Lord. Lol.
