For as long as I've been alive I've never seen prices actually go down. Some here and there, but once prices go up they mostly stay there because the 'business' has 'baked' in the new price to there operating costs. And especially in the last 3-4 years when wages for some businesses have basically doubled due to caving to the Dem/libs on 'livable wage' and minimum wage.
This is one thing that I wish Trump wouldn't push....lowing cost. Yes gas, etc can go down (some) with increased supply, but overall I have my doubts. But I totally understand why he would say it.
Read a FoxNews article this morning about how Lindt chocolates (based in Europe) said that due to Trump's tariffs on Canada (and Mexico) that they will bring in their chocolates, etc from Europe rather than what they do now, from the U.S.
This from the article...'.Despite cocoa prices tripling over the past two years and Lindt reportedly hiking its prices to 6.3% in 2024, annual sales still grew by 7.8% last year, suggesting that shoppers are not easily deterred from splurging on their chocolates.'
So if you raise your price 6.3% and sales go up 7.8%....that's a great result? I don't think so.

When you pay SS contributions it DOES lower your Federal taxable income, meaning that you're not paying taxes on that portion of your income AT THAT TIME. But when you receive your SS benefits, later in life (and presumably in a lower tax bracket) you DO pay taxes on that because it is considered income at that time. Just like an IRA/annuity that you start to draw from when you're retired. It's essentially tax-deferred, so yes, you are essentially correct.

These tariffs will end up hurting Americans a lot more than helping, imo. I’m in tune with most of Trump’s policies but he’s going to ruin a lot of good will with tariff wars.

I think that Trump believes that the tariff's will be offset by increased GDP growth. We'll see, because he isn't going to retract them unless he gets his way. I'd be hard pressed to bet against him though.

Anyone who has some understanding of tariffs and all knew this is a longer play deal. The question is how long will it take? I am confident Trump will get the economy in shape again but it's not going to happen overnight. Costs will rise for a period of time. People are already struggling and asking them to take it on the chin a while longer is a really tough ask.
Trump's biggest issue is he does not have much time to get things moving in the right direction because the midterms are just around the corner. He has 2 years to get this done. 2 years to correct decades of bad policies and reckless spending is a very tough ask of any administration. Very complex stuff he is trying to tackle all at once. JMO, should have gotten the tax cuts done first and then tackle tariffs.
All that said, when things come together it will be amazing to see but it's going to be rocky getting to the end destination.
