Jury nullification in gun purchase cases is evidently common, especially when the jury feels the law worked (when people lie and still don’t get the firearm). That is not this case, but there is no readily identifiable victim. He broke the law, but no one appears to have been harmed. That can matter to juries.
Nullification also occurs when the jury has a sympathy. Addicts lie. He was an addict. Being an addict is something most people would not choose. The idea that there was no real victim to his crime and he was “sick” can influence the jury.
It happens quite a bit.
You notice everytime a Republican wins the Presidency, since W, that Libs say they’re moving to Canada (which ironically is funny they never talk about moving to Mexico) yet whenever a Dem wins the Republicans just embolden themselves to get it back in the House and the Senate.
If he’s found guilty it doesn’t matter because his Father will pardon him. So either way Hunter will be exonerated. Ironically enough Democrats will spin it as a partisan investigation

I'll be real. When I was like 16 I did a lot of "Libs think..." or "conservatives think" and then pushed some weird argument to the end of it. I'd then pat myself on the back hoping like minded people would bail me out of my strawman argument (another danger of an echo chamber), but 99.8% of the time when you see a statement like "Libs think..." it's some political activist making up arguments for the other side and rebutting the argument they made up.
Almost always used as a crutch to evade talking substance. Pretty much an easy way to know if someone actually cares about discussion or if they just want to do goofy back and forths.
