He didn't put himself in any position other than being opposed to the uniparty. What you aren't understanding is that Trump had lost the primary and we got Ron... Dems would already be kicking up investigations into him. They'd be suing him and finding novel legal theories to investigate him on. they'd find people close to him who the could prosecute for some other crime and offer lenience to testify against him on some BS charges.
