You think the schools are educating Ky kids better today than even 5 years ago?? 🤣🤣🤣
You obviously don't spend time in schools like I do.
5 years ago we had multiple applicants for jobs, substitutes, bus drivers and a pension system.
Thanks to the non-stop far right assault on teachers there are less subs available to cover for absent teachers. The sub pool that used to be aspiring teachers is dead. There are few aspiring teachers. Teachers are having to double up classes or cover on their planning periods now. Not a good learning environment when teachers are out.
Thanks to trashing the pension...new or young teachers have Zero incentive to stay in education long term. It doesn't pay jack sh**, the benefits suck and the parents/kids treat them like garbage. All they hear on right wing media is teachers suck. Used to be teachers would at least finish out the year before quitting. Many hung on for the good pension. Not anymore. But who cares? They just quit and slide right into a private sector job paying more money with a much better retirement.
There also aren't any bus drivers anymore. Schools start the day with groups of kids dragging in an hour or more late because the driver didn't show up. That's great for learning.
Here's the best part. It's only going to get worse. Guaranteed.
"Education officials say there are 11,000 unfilled teaching positions across Kentucky’s public schools. That’s in large part because there are so few young people entering the profession. Enrollment in the state’s teacher preparation programs fell from more than 12,000 students in 2011, to just 7,400 in 2019."
7,400 in 2019.... Love to see the number now with no pension left. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Kentucky education leaders are warning of dire consequences if more isn’t done to address the growing teacher shortage.
