As a matter of fact we are in a period of global judgement and you need to move the ego aside and seek god before the judgement comes your way. Yes. The gop will have to face reality and raise taxes that are earmarked only for debt with no loopholes. Military spending will have to be cut. Federal State subsidies will have to be cut. The south will broke as hell. Or set a 25 year plan to massively increase us economic output with locked in spending limits so the new revenue can slowly push down debt. That would require a manufacturing revival and legalizing the current illegal aliens to rapidly fill jobs. Or give NASA a 15 year plan to begin asteroid mining. But none of that will happen because everyone is to busy pwning the libs and trying to save the country from maga morons to do long term planning.
And none of us have ever said we were a fan of Trumps spending.
It’s a lot easier than you propose: lower income taxes maybe even a flat rate. Cut all spending across the board 5% every sector of government cuts 5% of its budget and institute a nationwide VAT of 5% to go directly toward the debt. Every penny goes toward the debt.
Cutting taxes will spur growth across the board especially for middle incomers, they keep more income but pay a direct tax to go towards the debt. This will one another. The spending cuts and rearranging the income tax structure would help balance the budget. There’s really no other way out of the debt mess except fairytale proposals like yours or massive war that causes a total financial reset. Fortunately the fed holds most of the debt and they don’t have a military to collect.
Oh there is one other way. Devalue the dollar so much that the debt is worthless. All of it was borrowed at low rates and hyperinflation would take care of the debt.

how are you going to balance the budget with such a small cut and lowering income taxes? You can't spur middle class growth and have a VAT tax. consumption taxes are monumentally regressive against the middle class. Lower class usually get rebates and upper class don;t care becasue they are rich and unaffected. 5% cuts i guess is a start but not even close to enough to tackle the deficit. the budget last year was 6 trillion, the deficit was 1.4 trillion. 5% is 300 billion. your still a trillion short not even accouting for lost revenue from a tax cut. And the 5% VAT wouldn't even cover 25% of the interest payments, you would be gaining no ground. Tackling the debt would require monumental long term cuts or long term economic growth with incrimental cuts. All of that doesn't even factor in world events. The south would see budget cuts of epic proportions, they are huge federal welfare queens. It would be a massive undertaking that would cost millions of federal and contractor jobs. This is why it has never been seriously tackled and never will be. Nobody has ever sucessfully campaigned on, "vote for me so i can fire millions of people and destroy the southern states services." Which leaves the only real option as freezing spending and finding a way to massively boost revenue intake over 10-20 years. and over that time not letting new administrations and congressmen ****ing it up. You could nationalize all US energy and use that revenue to pay off debt. lots of creative things could be done but never will because the debt is only a problem if its forced to be collected and these days the US itself owns like 80% of its debt.
The day of reckoning is fast approaching. This will not only be a US financial collapse but will put the entire world into a deep depression because when the US can no longer be everyone else's sugar daddy the jig will def be up.
