I assume Self will be at Kansas as long as he wants to be. With that said we've seen a number of coaches retire early, so who knows.
If a program is comfortable with the baggage, this might be the time to go for Golden. I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted some distance from the scandal at UF, regardless of how well this season is going for them. On the other hand he may be grateful to the administration there for how they handled the situation and not canning him right away.

We did. But the 2 situations are so different.
Self has 2 National Championships, 1 in the past few years. That buys more leeway.
Cal on the other hand only had 1, which was 12 years ago at the time of leaving. He had more 1st round exists in the past 3 years (at the time of leaving) than NCAA championships or even tournament wins.
He also went 9-16 not too long ago.
Why in the hell wpuld Kansas fans want to move on from Self?
Sure, maybe there are some small cracks in the foundation, but he is 2 years removed from second title. He's won 81% of games and has half of Kansas' all time titles.

Love seeing them in shambles turning on the hair piece. UNC sucks ass too. If we could just have Dook make a big flop what a wonderful world it would be.
Honestly I think there's a very high chance they flop 2nd or 3d rd. They haven't played a top 30 team since Dec 8 2024. When they finally played a decent team 33rd Clemson they lost. They are getting a ton of credit for beating up on bums with losing records.

Yeah but Self hasn’t turned them into underachievers year after year. Just the pieces they got this year don’t mesh.
The interesting thing about Kansas is they finished 1st or 2nd in the Big 12 every year under Self except for 1 year (finished 3rd) in his first 20 years. Now that they expanded the conference, he’s finished 5th and is currently tied for 6th with 3 of the newer schools in front of KU.
Golden is killing it in Florida. I thought he might be a good candidate for here, but I don't know whether he has the experience to deal with the pressure that comes with this job.
Golden may be loyal to Florida as Florida gave him the opportunity to continue coaching and did not punish him for his scandals and accusations.
Golden is going to be a future HOF level coach. He is only 39 and this is only the third season he has coached at Florida
Self would need to have another bunch of early tournament exits—first-round, second-round, or even miss March Madness for three to five years—before he would be in real danger. Otherwise, he is unlikely to be fired and would probably retire on his own terms. This shows just how poorly Cal performed in his final years. If he had even just one Sweet 16 appearance, he would still be coaching Kentucky now.
Golden is a creep who dodged a bullet with the recent allegations. You can tell by looking at him that he is guilty.

I will assure you that if he had actually been guilty of the allegations he would have been fired and prosecuted. Like we saw the writing on the wall with Cal. Self is very stubborn. Granted the situations are wildly different and yes Sslf has two titles but those titles came 14 years apart. And that second one was kinda fluky. He beat Hubert Davis for goodness sakes in a year UNC got hot and then couldn’t finish the job. Had they played Duke I guarantee Self only has one title. Because we all know what would’ve happened in a title game where K was retiring.

I’ll agree it’s a bad assumption BUT that was a lot of smoke to be nothing. I believe SOMETHING happened and we will never quite know what. Wouldn't be the first rich successful guy to get away with bad behavior. Also wouldnt be the first false allegation either so, who knows.
Funny this pops up as I started to think if Self might be gone soon. I think Kansas will be able to grab almost anyone they want, like Kentucky. But there will be a few names they can't get because some coaches just don't want to deal with the pressure at a place like UK or KU, IF they're already established. Guys like Hurley and Nate Oats.
I also can't see Pitino going there either. Midwest isn't his lifestyle and I think he's got something good going at St. John's.
But guys like Golden, Kelsey, Byington, and other younger upstart coaches I can see for sure.

There's a lot of Talk on the Twitter that the NIL Explosion has removed his advantage.
Everyone knew he was paying players. And all of a sudden, the whole world is able to do the same. We're talking full blown bidding wars.
Maybe there's something to that. I sure hope there is.
But when they got Storr and Mayo to go with Harris and Dickinson, I thought they'd be really good. It felt like he was getting his pick of dudes in the portal. Maybe ot getting the elite freshmen has been the downfall?
Also, the Big 12 just got tougher. He had a free pass to a 1 seed most years. Media talking about Kansas always dominating the conference not stopping to consider what it says about the conference. Enter Houston, Arizona, BYU. Otzelberger turns Iowa State into a contender. He's in a different wild west.

We heard this time and time again about the UK job and it wasn't true. Times have changed. Blue blood programs are more trouble than their worth these days with all the pressure. You can win big anywhere with the transfer portal and NIL in a way that wasn't possible 20 or 30 years ago.
There's a reason Duke, UNC, and UK have coaches with previous ties to the program. Guys like that are the only ones that value the program enough to think the pressure is worth it.
KU would be stupid to get rid of Self. He’s won a title in the last five years and keeps them in the hunt about every year. His mistake these last few years has been relying too heavily on the Portal, IMHO.
Unless Florida were to accidentally release some previously unseen evidence in a certain texting scandal if he were to leave. I'm sure they wouldn't do that though.
An important piece of information around being guilty or not is that this was strictly a Title IX case and not a legal case outside the university. The allegations didn't violate Title IX because the university found no evidence that sexual harassment occurred within a university program or activity and that's why the school dismissed it, but that's far from him being innocent of being a creep with the college students. There is a lot of evidence, it just didn't happen in the context of a university program or event, so they dropped the Title IX case.
pitino should be at UK now. Pope should be the highest paid assistant. Leave it to Barney to blow a layup. In 2 years pitino would have been in the title game. Man I’ll be so glad when that guy is gone. You have to continue to be dynamic in athletics. Every 5-7 years. Barney 13 years way too long. Life too short for this guys way. I mean think about it. Even if he makes a good choice here and there he has stuck us with ridiculous hires and contracts that our coaches aren’t/weren’t worth it. This fixed mindset has really quelled UK bb success. Sick of the guy he earned nothing. He has done an average job and is the head of the good ole boy network. And his stupid Kstate knock off cat 🤢
