Has anyone heard of the furries in school. I was told about that two weeks ago from a custodian at a middle school. I thought he was full of $hit. My brother in law’s grandson just finished his junior year in high school and said he had some in his school. We have a screwed up society and I’m afraid it’s not going to get better.

A 18 year old cannot fully understand the ramifications of going to war either. So why should Americans allow children to die for this country? They're allowed to put their life on the line, but the majority of the country would not do the same. I'm guessing you wouldn't, and that's the problem. People like yourself know if the age is raised to 21, the military would struggle getting anywhere near it's annual recruiting goal, and that's problematic for people like yourself.
Also, if you think all that training will get an 18 year old ready for the consequences of combat, including PTSD, psychosis, disfigurement, and biological or chemical warfare, then you might want to look in the mirror and see a real moron.

Great post. This kind of thing isn't talked about enough. From the beginning, the wealthy have found ways for their sons to avoid participating in war. I suppose a draft wouldn't work with what we have today, but I have never liked the idea of paying someone else to do things where we should all share the burden. Personally I volunteered for Viet Nam because my conscience would not allow me to stay safe at home in college while others fought. I was green and not prepared for what life would be like. it has had a bigger effect on my life than most reading this can ever understand.
