I have no idea if he owns more farmland than anyone in the world...or if his holdings are roughly .2%....but I do know that about 5-6 years ago I was told by people who know (both in and out of state gov't) that he was buying a ton of farms in Ohio. Land transactions were not in his name as I recall...some corporate name...but was traced back to Gates.

He owns 269000 acres, roughly 20x20 miles in total. It's a business investment and a good one. Just so you know the scale, over the next 5 years they expect 92 million acres of arable land to change hands. That kinda dwarfs his holdings.
