Plz delete Im depressed enough

Hey baseball people, questions.

I date back to “pennant” days.

If the Reds beat Atlanta, are they then in “the Elite 8?” Would the next series against either the Cubs or Marlins be 3 games and all on the road?

Is the NLCS seven games, some in each city??

This could get very interesting.

The Reds did this unlike any time in their history. Sure, they had some good pitching in the 70’s and late 30’s, and had the greatest relievers in baseball in the early 90’s, but this seasons’ Reds are the first team in history to have more walks than hits. Starting pitching is their strength and the bats have come alive the last two weeks!
Hack, if Reds get past Atl the next series will be in a neutral bubble town and best of 5.

Wild Card = Best of 3
Divisional Round = Best of 5
AL/NLCS = Best of 7
World Series = Best of 7

I like the way our bats have been of late. Atlanta hasnt had great starting pitching. I definitely believe we can take down the Braves. If that comes to pass, we most likely get Chicago. That concerns me. We didnt fair well against their starting pitching, but we also seem like a whole new team of late.

All I know is we punched our ticket and are the hottest team in baseball. This Reds team can beat anyone the way we're playing.

If I had to pick it today, my money is on Los Angeles over Oakland in the World Series.

Reds and Dodgers both finished the season 11-3 and are the hottest 2 teams in MLB in that regard heading into the playoffs.

Reds however are coming out of a division were 4 teams made the playoffs and the Dodgers just two.

And correct me if I’m wrong: didn’t we play the Cubs, Cardinals and Brewers a much higher percentage of our 60 than we would have if we’d played 162?

Man...I wish Kentucky football fans were this positive and hopeful rather than pessimistic all the time. It would make this board so much more enjoyable to read.

I am a Braves fan. Our starting pitching is definitely our weakness. Bullpen is pretty strong, but that depends on our starter giving us at least 5 IP, which hasn't happened a lot this year. Sometimes our offense is able to overcome our pitching, sometimes it's not. The Braves' bats will be the key to the series. If they do what they're able to do, Braves win easily. If they struggle, Reds win easily. Will be a fun series.

I think the Reds SPs will be the key.
The Reds righty rotation matches up good with 8 of 11 Braves position players batting exclusively right handed.

Cincinnati went 20-12 their last 32 games; 16-8 their last 24 games; 12-4 their last 16 games and 11-3 their last 14 games. I will field any queries you may have regarding this epic September run to the playoffs.

Also, I think it is an absolute joke that MLB is not making St Louis play that DH in Detroit today to determine 2nd place in the Central.
Just a blatant love for the Cardinals and blatant hatred for Cincinnati...

Un-freakin-fair!

Right - essentially that SP/Braves lineup matchup.

The Braves righties have done relatively well against RHP this year. The offensive lineup is outstanding but historically the Braves are choke artists in the playoffs. No question about it...I'm ready to get hurt again.

It's no the Cardinals fault the Corona Bo-log-na virus made them delay the season for like 2 weeks. The Cardinals had to play a ton of games in September and a lot of double headers so I think their spot is well earned. I think I'd prefer the Braves over the Padres anyways.

I dont know, it depends on the health of the Friars two best pitchers which sounds mighty iffey.

Rut Ro...Da Wink is back:

Hopefully Stephenson and Senzel will be playing everyday soon as well but its nice to have all the position players on deck!

This lineup features 6 lefthanded bats and the first 6 should cause a world of trouble for the avg. Pirate Righthander.

In all due respect, I truly hope you do not wish Stephenson behind the plate. He has a lot of work to do. If he makes it up with the stick, fine...but I’d rather have any SEC catcher behind the plate over him. Receiving and lateral movement is not up to par, whatsoever.

????Uhhhhh..........The Reds have one of the Top 3 rotations in the major leagues this year. You asleep at the wheel?
Too bad the Reds are the worst hitting team in all of baseball. hopefully that doesn't bite them in the ass and hopefully we get through the playoffs in homer friendly parks.

Yes that is true but they also are tied for the 3rd most walks in mlb.

I think there are but 2 teams in all of baseball that can stop this Big Red Machine now: Atlanta and the Dodgers.
Will they? TBD

Id like to see a breakdown of how teams have hit the last month. Reds bats seemed to have been a hell of a lot livelier and certainly more clutch.

We have bats. I realize it doesn't mean much to say it if they don't do anything. That was the problem last year. We all knew we had the bats from '18, we went out and acquired Sonny and Trevor and we all thought OK...here we go. And then...well...we all know the story.

But it seems like this year they started off slow and have gotten better. Again, it doesn't mean anything if they don't produce. But my point is we may be ranked there but how they're playing now v how we started out is a large part of that equation. As UK basketball fans, I think we're all well aware how futile it is to get hung up about how a team starts out when they are able to turn it on at crunch time months later. The Reds haven't been a fluke....we've finally coalesced and I'll take us against anyone the way we're playing right now.

It doesn't mean we will win it all, but whereas some years it might feel like a token invite, I actually believe this team has the pieces to make a real run. Just gotta take it game by game.

Here's a quick and dirty analysis, breaking the 60 games into 4 groups of 15:

First Fifteen Games: 64 runs scored/4.27 per game.
Second Fifteen Games: 58 runs scored/3.87 per game
Third Fifteen Games: 50 runs scored/3.33 per game
Last Fifteen Games: 71 runs scored/4.73 per game

I actually assumed there would be no statistically significant differences, but the addition of 1.4 runs per game from the 3rd to the 4th Quarter was HUGE.

The Reds season average was 4.05 runs per game.

I dont think its a coincedence the higher run totals coincide with Moose being in the lineup either.

As a comparison, the Braves' runs per game:

First 15 Games: 74 runs scored/4.9 per game
Second 15 Games: 78 runs scored/5.2 per game
Third 15 Games: 117 runs scored/7.8 per game (Braves scored 29 on Sept 9, so that skews this number a bit. Without that game, Braves would be at 88 runs/5.8)
Fourth 15 Games: 79 runs score/5.2 per game

Season long average was 5.8 runs per game.

Predictable outcome by the Reds who have a historically awful offense. I wouldn’t be beating my chest if I were an Atlanta fan. Offense is supposed to be what you’re good at. No one stands a chance against the Dodgers tho
