Plz delete Im depressed enough

Reds rotation for Milwaukee:

Castillo
Gray
Bauer (on 3 days rest)

Cincinnati is serious about this.

Reds are 12-6 their last 18 gms.
Reds are 9-3 their last 12 gms.
Reds are 7-1 their last 8 gms.

With an off day Thursday Id imagine the Reds will go Castillo, Gray, Bauer all on 3 days rest v Minnesota over the weekend.
I think more probable scenario vs. Twins is

Mahle
Castillo (4 days)
Bauer (3 days again) unless they've clinched or are eliminated (highly unlikely), then maybe Antone, Miley or Lorenzen, which moves Bauer to the first playoff game.

Gray - 1st Playoff game (hopefully)

Exciting times for a change

Unfortunately St Louis owns tiebreaker over Reds for 2nd in Central and playoff spot due to head to head (6-4).

Reds currently hold the advantage over Brewers 4-3...

Not sure what the tiebreaker would be in either of the 2 wildcard playoff spots with teams outside the Reds division.

Anyone know?
Record in the Division, I think

Miley needs to stay on the pine. We have 3 better options than him in Lorenzen Sims Antone. These 3 guys all throw 96+ with starter arsenals. Miley can stay on the bench as a cheerleader and then be released after this year. I liked the deal but Reds are loaded with talented young arms they’ve moved past needing a 90 mph junk baller

Wow Reds lose and actually gain a half game in the WC standings as Philly was sweep by hapless Washington in a DH.

Bauer goes tomorrow night v the righty Houser and his elevated 5 + era!

Lets freakin Go!!!

Yeah, I agree. But, my point was that I think they go with Mahle and then Castillo on 4 days rest vs. Twins as opposed to all 3 of Castillo, Gray and Bauer on 3 days. We'll see. Miley would only be an option if the last game was meaningless, which is now doubtful.

Under no circumstances should Wade Miley take the mound for meaningful innings over the next 4 games.

None.

If Sunday is meaningless, fine, run him out there.

Otherwise no....just no.

Im hearing:
Off day Thurs
Fri: Mahle
Sat.: Castillo
Sun: Gray if playoff spot secured, if not, Bauer.
I could see the lefty Miley being used out of the pen as a lefty specialist ala Garrett as the Reds are extremely limited w/lefty pitching.
Miley pitched a scoreless ninth tonight.
Could work out perfectly.

Series win over St. Louis....check
Series win over Pittsburgh....check

8-2 homestand
10-3 last 13

If things break just right tonight, which they currently are and tomorrow, I think 1 out of 3 in Minnesota may get the Reds in the playoffs.

Given the last 15, or so games, let me ask a real baseball fan a question: is it not still possible for the Reds to pass the Cards, finish second in the Central, and improve their playoff seed??

If they did, as a non-wildcard, any shot of opening playoffs at home??

Hack, absolutely the Reds can finish 2nd in Central as they are currently tied w/Cards.
However, from everything Ive gathered, if the Reds finish 2nd in Central they would go to Atlanta and play the Braves in the playoffs.

The Reds are the hottest team in baseball at 10-3 their last 13.
The Yankees are 10-3 their last 13 as well but have dropped their last 3 of 4 while Cincy has won their last 3 of 4.

Feels good!

Also, UK kicks off at noon Sat and Reds dont play until 7. Its so wonderful!

In honor of our thoughts of Red Bird teams, in both football and baseball, let me offer the following cadence/chant/song:

Little red bird with a yellow bill
Sittin’ on my window sill
I lure him in with a piece of bread
Then I smash his f@$kin’ head

SOUND OFF, ONE TWO, THREE, FOUR!

My first sports team was not the Kentucky Wildcats, It was the Cincinnati Reds.
There is something special in my heart about the Reds winning. Making the playoffs.
The Big Red Machine starts cranking its motor and I get sucked in like a tornado does a tree.
I want them in the playoffs so freaking bad.

If they make the playoffs id wanna draw San Diego. Avoid the Cubs and Dodgers. Live with the Braves.
Id wanna play San Diego.

BG 79, me too. My Dad, who passed away a week ago took me from Shepherdsville, Ky to Cincy to see the BRM in 1975 when I was going on 9 yrs old and Ive been hooked ever since.
Didnt really start following UK until a few yrs later, 1978.

For me, it was about simultaneous. Being born in ‘63, I saw the Runts lose the NT game in ‘66, at age 3 (and remember me and my 11 year old brother crying), watched the Reds at school in the first grade and third grade against the Orioles and A’s, losing two WS, then watched only the second nationally televised football game in U.K. history in 1975, when Jerry Claiborne brought his Maryland Terrapins to Commonwealth in 1975, to be tied by a U.K. team a year away, the very same year the Reds were smashing every national league record for wins.

At 12 years old, my brother and I had more Reds swag than U.K., but that quickly changed, as he attended U.K. in the mid 70’s with the likes of Art Still and Sonny Collins and Jimmy Dan Conner and “little Ronnie Lyons.”

On weekends, he’s tell stories about pickup roundball games, mostly with football players, including one who was soon afterward charged with murder.

My brother was a decent small town athlete, but described the athletic freaks he met. Once on a rebounding drill in a gym class, the instructor had Lyons shoot from 25 feet, but he never missed. He backed him to mid-Court, and he drained 5 more in a row.

I agree. Only if it is meaningless

These last 4 days in the NL are going to be wild;

Reds have a 1/2 game lead over the Marlins and a full game lead over Philly and Milwaukee. The Reds are tied record wise w/the Cards and Giants.

Reds play 3 at Twins
Brewers play 5 at St Louis
Phillies play 3 at Rays
Marlins have 3 at Yankees
Giants play 4 v Pads
St Louis plays 5 v Brew Crew

As you see that is 6 teams separated by a single game in the standings fighting for 4 playoff spots.

Every one of those teams have crazy tough series starting today or tomorrow.

The Reds, Cards, Giants have a 1/2 gm lead over Miami and a full game edge over the Brewers and Phillies.

I dont think the NL has ever seen a playoff race this tight in its illustrious history.

5 of the 6 teams are still fighting for 3 playoff spots, while the Giants just 2.

Which 4 teams make it in BBN?

Cincinnati is 9-2 their last 11 games (Talk about rising to the occasion via clutchness) to improve to 29-28 overall w/3 reg. season games left and are on the cusp of a playoff berth and winning season for the first time in 7 long years (circa 2013).

If I'm a reds fan which I'm not I'm a Cubs fan I'd want to play us bc we suck and cant hit to save our lives. Playing Atlanta or San Diego with that offense they have no way. Atlanta and La has crazy good lineups. Regardless should be fun week of baseball and football being back nothing makes fall better.

Not sure what this doing on the football board but it’s got 104 post. There are a lot of Reds fans here. Cardinals to.

I’m a charter Rockies fan, but I could never give up the Reds who I started following in 1965. It’s been exciting watching them make a late run for a playoff spot. Big win last night to take 2/3 from the Brewers. Looks like the last 3-4 spots in the NL will go right down to the last day of the season. Tough series for the Reds. The Twins have had a strong season. They have a spot clinched, but which one is still in question. Both teams have something at stake. Let’s hope for the best.

Really glad for all the distractions sports are providing right now. Go Reds!

I hope the Brewers put my Cardinals out of their misery this week to save us the embarrassment of making the playoffs and getting stomped by a real team. Perhaps I am being too harsh and perhaps if not for the CV19 issue and all the double headers and games in September the Cardinals would be in a better position and have a better record. People said last year's NLCS run was fluky and that appears accurate. Of course if they make it anything is possible.

For the Reds fans, I would want the Braves in the first round as well. They are the reason the Cardinals made it to the NLCS because they are October choke artists.

I’m like a lot of old Reds fans, who essentially dropped the sport with all the strikes and turmoil in the 80’s and 90’s, but I watched some Atlanta games in the 90’s.

Two years ago, I decided to “catch up” a little on the last 35 years of baseball, and started doing a little research on the net.

I was surprised Atlanta had only one World Series championship, 1995, IIRC.

With Maddox, Smoltz, and other good pitchers, I thought they’d won at least a couple. Maddox is the greatest starting pitcher I ever watched, in his prime 5 years. I think he had 16 Golden Gloves to go with his pitching skills.

Giants losing to Rockies today helps the cause.
Need Braves to beat Marlins.
Cards and Brewers playing 5 starting tonight and will benefit either way.

Lost in 7 to twins in 91 and 6 to blue Jay's in 92. Then 94 strike happened and won it in 95 before a team called the Yankees showed up to dominate last half of decade. They lost to Yankees twice n 96 and 99 with the last being a sweep. They didn't do much in the 2000s despite continuing to make the playoffs. They definitely should have won more than one.

As a life long Reds fan, since '66 I am super pumped they are playing meaningful games in Sept. I feel like Bell has cost them W's early in the season with some of the 2nd line players that he insisted on putting in the lineup, that and the early failures of the bullpen. All they have to do is keep putting up W's and hope they get some help. They need to take these next 2 with the Pirates, take 2 of 3 from the White Sox this weekend (tall order because they are a good team and as they say, they can "MASH"). Then they have the Brewers and close with the Twins. IF they can squeeze into the playoffs, with Castillo, Bauer and hopefully Gray, I like them in a short series even against the Dodgers. I'm beyond excited about Stephenson and Garcia for the future. I love Sims and Antone out of the pen..

As a Reds fan from the days of Temple, Gus Bell, Big Klu, I'm with you!

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

What a run, with four series victories in a row, and maybe a fifth!!

This was an historic late season run that will be remembered for decades.

With only 14 games left in a shortened season, and stats guys giving them less than a 20 percent shot, they clinch a playoff spot WITH TWO OF THE 14 GAMES LEFT!!

Wow!

Bring on the Damn Yankees!!
