On Gottlieb show

I think it's very possible an offer is being put together. Even likely. Question is, will he take it? He won't be here forever. Like someone said, we were UK before Cal and will be afterward.

I would love it if he stays a few more years.

Maybe all of that West coast talent that is leaving the area is making him think about how he would get them all to stay in their backyards of UCLA and build super teams.

With that said, no chance he is leaving UK for UCLA. None
Pac 12 is garbage. So he is going to leave the SEC he has seen grow into a top conference in BB to go to the Pac 12 who is starting to look about like the American that he left. I agree with you he isn't going anywhere and sure in the hell not UCLA, but a good distraction. Brings their dying name to the forefront while they look for the new guy to take the next fall there.

It is a big deal, I'm no spring chicken and can't sit through two mediocre coaching hires till the next big name comes along. Give the man what ever he wants to keep him here.
The big time donors won't let them be stupid with the next hire I guarantee you that especially after Billy G debacle!

Not making a judgement either way, but it would not surprise me at all if his agents float these rumors every year in advance of negotiations.

All this talk of money or taxes like its actually something that will make Cal's mind up? It won't. The money is about respect and ego. How much he keeps of it, after taxes, is unlikely to be a concern to someone in Cal's position.

If Cal left, it wouldn't be about money but I do think he'd need to feel the love by having a big number thrown at him. I'm not say he leaves but it'd be about trying to follow a legend after so many others have failed and getting to do it in a city that no other major college program can compare to.

Hope he wants to stay but, if he doesn't, can't we all live with that? Cal is one of the best things to have happened to UK basketball but UK basketball is bigger than him still. We'd be fine.

They're fools to think he would even consider that. Taxes alone make that a pay cut, as already pointed out.
Wow I haven’t seen you post in forever. You’re legend round these here parts to us folks old enough to know who you are. Sorry to get off topic.

I don’t think Cal would go for that either.

Maybe I am mistaken but I thought that many athletes and celebrities maintain a home in CA just so they can take advantage of the tax situation. I've been wrong before a time or two though.
The state income tax is around 9%

Also cal and Steve Alford are very good friends. I’m sure Alford has told cal how awful the fan support is and playing every night at 10 eastern on espn is great for recruiting lol. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Alford on the staff if Joel Justus does in fact take a HC job

No I’m sure Alford has told him nothing because he knows this whole situations is stupid and Cal never considered it and never will.

Haha Cal just got a gift. Everyone is concerned about him leaving. If he loses in the tournament, don’t complain too hard!! He might go to UCLA!!!!!!!!

Can’t make this sht up.

I think you are actually making our point rather than refuting it. The discussion about money and taxes was not that it would make up Cal's mind because it wouldn't. Neither would the extra 0.8 million that UCLA was prepared to offer. We were just pointing out how ridiculous the offer was in the first place. Some in the media were making it sound like UCLA was putting together a package that Cal would be tempted by. In reality it was as likely to happen as it would be if UK fired Stoops and put a package together to convince Nick Saban to leave Bama.

Simply put the money wasn't that much better to begin with and you never leave a program like UK for something like UCLA. Historic programs like UK in basketball and Bama in football offer something for your legacy that money can't buy. You just don't leave jobs like this unless you are failing.

CA actually has some of the most favorable income taxes in the country. Cal still isn't going anywhere.

Where did you get your information? Cal would pay the top California rate which is 13.3% I can't find a state higher than that. Kentucky is what 5%? California is in danger of losing their middle class due to their tax burden and that is why people are leaving in droves. Next door Nevada has 0% income taxes.

A positive move for Calipari to Los Angles would be the opportunity to feed a lot of homeless people. This would give the entire family a full time job out of basketball.

I’m meaning just in friendly conversation. I’m sure Alford has mentioned how awful it was coaching there, especially being from basketball country.

CA highest tax bracket for income tax is 13.3% and KY is 5% flat tax regardless of income level so quite a bit more.

Yeah so they would have to offer about 10.5 million a year just to break even for what he makes here. If he wanted a raise it would take at least 15 million factoring the cost of living.

What’s pisses me off to no end is California is nearing total disaster, people are leaving in droves, and those people leaving in droves vote the same way when they get to other states. You’d think they’d realize why they’re leaving California in the first place.

And when they destroy Florida, they’ll move again. Voting the same way as they move along, destroying everything.

I am afraid you are right. We have Bernie bumper stickers all over the place with New York New Jersey and Massachusetts tags on their cars. They say they left up North because of the political climate and high tax rate. But they still vote D. You can't make this stuff up. The further South you go in Florida the more Yankee it gets. By the time you reach Miami you are back in New York City. Once they screw us up I guess they will finally head on down to Cuba or Venezuela

Yea, I already admitted that I was mistaken. I think I misremembered what I heard. Getting old

You realize Cal is a liberal right?

He’s always been liberal. But like much of the northern white population, I’m sure Cals views are much different today than when traditional liberalism was around 20 years ago. It’s a different climate.

Not to be political just doubt Cal is a progressive socialist which is the current platform of today by that side.

You realize Cal is a liberal right?
He ain't California liberal though. Trust me what's going on out there is on a whole new level. Cal would literally be run out of town the first time he has a recruiting class that doesn't have a transgender on it. California is so over the top left that every press conference would be like walking through a mine field. Even actors and comedians that consider themselves liberals are complaining about how rigid political correct standards are out there. Cal wouldn't survive 10 minutes with a California based media.
