None of the top recruits are coming ...

I have a source that told me that the looney toons episode where Sylvester tried to lure Speedy Gonzalez out of his mouse hole by rolling himself up in an enchilada was racist. What do they think, mexicans can't resist any enchilada they see out in the middle of the street?!

I think if you make a blanket statement that UK is out of the running for player A,B,C, and D., then you should at least state where you do think they will end up.

Can't help wondering if the OP refused to pick Jaycatz44 for dodgeball back in the day...

His posts alone account for 2 of the 4 pages in this thread.

The OP is full of crap or his source is full of crap. I hate using the word "insider," but two different proven insiders on Cat Illustrated has stated that UK feels really good about landing Diallo.
Wrong.

Brown seems pretty unlikely, Murray we don't even know will be in this class....1 probably not 2 meant Mulder

A legitimate top 8 team.
I can't name more than 8 teams better than us next year. If you are a top 8 team, you are a 1-2 seed. That gives you a shot.

Murray is at the top of my list. He is the missing ingredient, IMHO.

Murray and Brown would put us right there with Duke and UNC as the favorites. Probably preseason 2 or 3.

Kentucky's not pre-season top 3? Elaborate. Duke lost their key players, returns less than UK technically, and is rolling with a freshman PG to say the least. Kentucky at least returns the player that will run this team, has the top projected player in the draft, and the top player in the incoming class (per Rivals). Bring in the top PG in this class as well, who scores the ball very well. We now have athletic wings who can shoot the 3 very well, and have an elite offensive rebounder and defender starting the 4 for us next season (he'll be a senior), with another terrific rebounder/defender coming off the bench for him.

Given our recent track record the past couple weeks with recruits, I'm inclined to think JUCOS or transfers are all we get at this point. Hope I'm wrong.

I think we get one more (coming from me, not my "source").

I would have liked to get Diallo, but we need a wing (3) badly. I would guess we go for 1 more from that spot.

Doesn't mean he knew one way or another. It was already out there we were unlikely to get anyone.
I don't know if he knew "inside" info or not, but I said 2 or 3 weeks ago that our recruiting was going to take a hit when Duke won the title. I was mostly looking at 2016, but had a bad feeling about 2015 as well. The reason I complained at fans who cheered for Duke over WI. People will say, "Diello didn't sign with Duke, nor did Newman, etc, etc." but Duke showed that Cal doesn't have a magic wand for winning with young players and going pro. I hate to say it but last year if Embiid had not been injured KU may have done the deed just like Duke did this year.

I think that WI loss hurts us in a lot of ways that we don't even realize.

I don't like hearing that, but when you have 7 guys declare for the NBA, and a couple more that will go pro after next year to the point that you have 2 starting lineups that any team in America would dream of having and you don't win it all, maybe recruits and coaches start to chatter?

To have that much talent this year by comparison to every team out there and not win doesn't sit well. While we're all talking it up about 4 Final Fours, padding ourselves on the back, and how "elite" that is, are recruits starting to say Cal's had more elite talent, both in number of recruits and their ranking, and yet can only win 1 title. I get the heavy turnover rate the year we missed out on the tournament, but with the amount of top level talent that were brought in, an NIT is a major fail.

Think about it. People are acting like it's doomsday because only the 2nd best recruiting class is coming in. So we have to have EVERY or damn near close to every top guy each year to be a contender, but other teams have found a way with WAY WAY LESS!

If Cal isn't signing absurdly talented recruiting classes year in and year out, what are the expectations then with "less talented" guys...

All 7 guys declared a while ago, and yet not 1 top unsigned guy has been interested?
Depressing.

 Cal is only putting more players in the NBA than any other program. UK won't struggle in 2016.

Either way, it's the last time I give any info on here (good or bad). You get roasted if you are right or wrong.

Pardon me for just giving you info I had.

Info you had? Keep telling yourself that buddy.

Yes I do. I am true blue all the way.
Go look at all my posts over the last 5 years. Nothing would suggest otherwise.
It doesn't change the fact that you'd rather be smug than wrong. It takes a special kind of person to gloat over widely believed info when it's negative about their favorite team.

Go ahead and post all the positive "insider sources" you've shared, by the way. True blue for five years means there should be plenty with a connection that's never wrong.

You are guys are funny. Believe what you want.

Gonzo ... I only shared one other time about 2-3 years ago from this guy and he was right. Got blasted for that as well. Most of my posts are my opinion and my thoughts.

I don't think the OP is a UK fan in any way shape or form but I really don't care. All I know is that he nailed it. He said we wouldn't get any of the big name recruits and we didn't. I don't care if he had a 'source' or not, his prediction was dead on and 99% of this board thought he was nuts.....including myself. I can't say that anymore. We still have a great recruiting class and I think we'll be a contender but the OP was right as much as I hate to admit it.

The same thing was being said by most all of the major prognosticators. Wasn't exactly going out on a limb, especially since he didn't predict where anyone was going.

Well ....so much for our "proven insiders."

The one I wanted the most was Diallo. I don't like how it's turning out, but I'll give you credit for calling it right.

I don't know if the changes have been made to accommodate it, but I hope the "one more" is Thon Maker. If so, that'd (maybe?) explain some of our latest whiffs... that, and also hoping that means Skal is very very good!

Regardless, I hope the Cats that we'll have next year can really pile up the points.

I guess people see things different, but I would hardly put the words "UK Basketball" and "missing on top recruits" in the same sentence

It's not like Briscoe, Mulder, Matthews and Labissiere are chopped liver, Briscoe and Labissiere are probably 1 and done from what little I've watched of them. Maybe Mulder and Matthews are guys that stay more than 1 year. Recruiting's still not over either, Thon Maker could easily be a Wildcat if he opts for the college route, but if he's not, this class is pretty damn good.

You could look at it 2 ways. One, you don't have as much NBA ready talent for the 2015-2016 season, so you may or may not be a powerhouse team this coming season. But on the flip side, if those spots are filled with guys that have talent, just not elite NBA ready talent, you get a crop of guys that will stay in the program and develop for 2,3,4 years. UK recruiting is never going to be bad under Calipari. Seems if he doesn't get 5 McDonald's All Americans every year, it's a down year, when in reality there are probably over 300 schools that would trade places with UK right now.

I never tend to have "sources" but I do know someone VERY connected in the AAU circuit.
He said several weeks ago that UK will not get a single remaining all-American.

Unfortunately, I am beginning to think that will be the case.

Best case scenario is Moulder and a 50/50 chance with Murray.

It looks like the guy had a legit "source", or a pretty accurate one at least.

This is an excellent post and why I fear that the Calipari era of success at UK is coming to a close. The title is damn difficult to win regardless of having the most talent. But Uconn has won two in the time Cal has been here with no where near the talent. People say all the time "how can anyone bitch with all the final fours and success Cal has had since he's been here", well if he were doing it with a bunch of Richie Farmers no one would complain at all. He's had the best players every year. Eventually you have to say, why hasn't he won more titles? The NIT year was his worst job and inexcusable in my opinion. This is when I started wondering if Cal really was "just a great recruiter" and what his true intentions were for the program.
