CHARLOTTE, N.C. – FOX Sports throws a little dirt into its eSports lineup this week, with the addition of World of Outlaws iRacing from the virtual Dirt Track at Charlotte on Wednesday, April 1 (8:00 PM ET) on FS1. The race marks the beginning of a weekly FS1 series of iRacing events across multiple disciplines and various virtual racetracks.

This week’s World of Outlaws iRacing event features stars from multiple series, including Brad Sweet (WoO), David Gravel (WoO), Bobby Pierce (DIRTcar Racing), Scott Bloomquist (WoO), Kyle Larson (NASCAR), Christopher Bell (NASCAR), Cruz Pedregon (NHRA) and Ron Capps (NHRA).

The one-hour program features a 35-lap World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series race, followed by a 50-lap Morton Buildings Late Model battle.

“The iRacing simulation platform is undeniably the closest thing to real racing we can deliver to our viewers during this challenging time,” said Brad Zager, FOX Sports Executive Producer, EVP/Head of Production & Operations. “While the racing may be virtual, the competition and fun are absolutely real, and we’ll use Wednesday nights to explore a variety of virtual racing.”

For Wednesday’s first event, Adam Alexander hosts, with Johnny Gibson, “The Voice” of the World of Outlaws, calling the action. NASCAR Hall-of-Famer Jeff Gordon and NASCAR CUP SERIES driver Clint Bowyer, who owns a Dirt Late Model race team, provide commentary.

“Americans are resilient, dirt track fans more than most, but they are also a proud group,” said Ben Geisler, Chief Marketing Officer for the World of Outlaws. “I can’t wait to hear them talking about the sport they love this week, while FOX Sports places it on arguably the biggest stage in sports right now. Our drivers are a determined bunch, they have jumped through hoops to find sim gear and they are putting in 10-hour marathon practice sessions to get up to speed. They will put on a great show.”

FOX Sports also continues its coverage of the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series from virtual Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday, April 5 (1:00 PM ET) on FOX*, FS1 and the FOX Sports app. Last Sunday’s event from virtual Texas Motor Speedway drew 1,339,000 viewers across FOX and FS1, a record for eSports on linear television for the second consecutive week.

My fear is that Bristol is gonna be a caution filled mess with some of these guys not being very experienced at iRacing. But I will absolutely watch it.

I saw Jeff Gluck had a poll for the first iRacing event they had and it was one of the top 5 rated races since he has been doing this poll which was about 3 or 4 years. Pretty sad about the state of NASCAR when a computer simulated race is more exciting than an actual race.

Biggest thing is that it has no competition right now. Normally, you'd have multiple other sports on TV on a Sunday. Right now it's all us nerds have.

There is an article by The Athletic one possible scenario for the season which begins with the Coke 600 and all races will be raced. There were some mid week races and some tracks would have both races in 1 weekend like they planned at Pocono. I still doubt that there will be folks able to gather by the end of May.

Also, if the season if fully cancelled or mostly cancelled I wouldn't be shocked to see Johnson come back. He is leaving that door open with all of his comments.

The polls are legit. I’ve been a nascar fan my whole life. The iRacing stuff is better tv viewing than the real life stuff has been for a long time now. The four-day series that started tonight on NBC sports will get good ratings too. And every Wednesday night is World of Outlaws sprints and late models. It’s even better than the virtual nascar stuff. Dirt racing has always been better than asphalt, but a lot of people are just now figuring that out. The difference will be even more obvious after this all blows over.

Where did some of the comments from yesterday go about Larson's ordeal? Unless something was said last night that was out of hand nothing on here was inappropriate and most was just tweets to articles about losing his sponsors and getting fired. Good grief if any of that was offensive then people are getting too sensitive on this board.

@Creed Bratton To your post earlier in the thread, saw this tweet earlier of an update for the Drunk Brian France case on Twitter from Bob Pockrass.

I saw a tweet from him this weekend saying how he wasn't Brian France, he didn't mean to do any harm or embarrass Brian France or his family, that he would be deleting the Twitter account, etc. I immediately had 2 thoughts the first of which was Brian France didn't need any help doing anything to embarrass his family. He single handedly brought NASCAR to it's knees then got a DUI. He did enough on his own. The second thought was I hope he starts another Twitter account called Drunk Frian Brance and continues on because he was a funny follow.

I think it is safe to say that Gov Andy will not let NASCAR race at Kentucky Speedway in July with fans in attendance and I am not sure if he will allow it without fans at this point.

Same here. Wow if he's eligible for the points this year, CGR isn't playing games and not wanting to waste a year of the 42. I suppose this was the best opportunity of retaining any sponsors putting a champion in the car. Would have thought Kenseth would be done for good. Happy to see an older name come back to the sport.

I would love to see Cousin Carl back in a car but I don't think he ever races again. I mean when he left he really left NASCAR. What is funny is I saw his interview when he lost the title in 2017 and he was talking about how strong the team was and they would win the title next year only to announce a 1 month or so later he was retiring. It just seemed like a sudden decision. I have been a Johnson fan since his rookie year but Carl was always a favorite too.

Looks like NASCAR is granting waivers for Newman and Kenseth to be eligible to make the Chase. I get Newman as he was supposed to run the season but was injured racing. What I don't get is why Kenseth is granted a waiver when he is just having to fill in for Larson's stupid mistake.

The engines start back up this weekend with the Busch Clash. Will you be watching?
Absolutely! I competed myself for 15 years with SCCA and NASA. I love racing. A friend with an 80” HDTV is going to put it in the window of his enclosed back porch, and 4 of us are going to gather in his back yard and watch. Sitting 20 feet apart. Still working out how we’re going to relieve ourselves without going in his house. Overkill perhaps, but we’re all over 60, and former amateur racers.

I like the idea of Pikes Peak as a Roval! Would be all for it. Watched some clips on YouTube of the testing of a road course at Indy. I'd also like to see NASCAR do some exhibition races like the Japan ones of the 90's just to give us fans more racing. The ones who don't want to do it can stay home but maybe bring up top talent from the Truck & Busch series to fill in. I still call it the Busch Series by habit but the Xfinity Series to be exact.
I assume you mean the Pikes Peak hill climb. I’ve been part of the grassroots motor sports community here for a long time so I have connections, and have worked that event on a volunteer basis a couple of times for pro racing teams. Data acquisition and analysis. I’m a retired software engineer. A talent I discover at UK. It’s an absolute riot. With an additional risk factor. There are no fences or guardrails.

Maybe it's because there hasn't been any sports in 2 months but I am super stoked to watch some racing this weekend. I know basketball, football and other sports would be different without fans but honestly the fans in the stand doesn't contribute to the racing so other than the temporary rule changes like no practice, qualifying, competition caution, etc it should be somewhat a normal race.
