That place was packed out for a damn Tuesday 9pm game at Vandy, and they pretty much stayed the entire time even though it was a total shit fest of a game. There is not a program in the nation (other than Duke who packs out a gym the size of most middle schools) that does that.

Hard to describe Rupp over the last decade. Obviously you have the older crowd and wealthy elite who are there for it more as a social function (not in every case but it honestly seems like it has evolved more into that recently) and you have the more rabid fans upstairs in the bleachers (lerd bless them, I just can't do it).
It is dead in that place more often than not. Annoying to watch on TV, but there is no viable solution. They will never adjust the seating to a Cameron Indoor type setup, far too much money lost that way. Just kinda have to deal with it being more of a fancy tea party atmosphere with pinkies up on the ice cream cones for the foreseeable future.
Students can also get pumped, they have totally dropped the ball over the last few years.

The wealthy elite vs upstairs rowdies is overblown as well. In reality, it's not like that at all. IT's mostly middle class normal ass folk. Just like in reality it's not hard to get a ticket to Rupp. Place holds 24k people. I think the whole stupid argument has been blown way out of proportion.
And the worst fans int he building are the students. That's a indisputable fact. They mostly come from Ohio, they don't show up to 9pm Vandy games, or hardly ever use all their tickets.

From a camera perspective, it absolutely is olds and wealthy elite on the TV and that's the perception you get. But yes I agree and I'm not saying the entire lower arena is filled with unattainable super expensive seats. It's just from a viewer's perspective, it feels that way.
