My dog dug up a woodland period drill bit in my backyard when i was a kid. I thought i saw something fly backward while i was busting his ass for digging for moles, and son of a bitch, perfect. Still have it.
I wish the government could find missing money as well as you do.
$10 ($5 + five $1 bills) just now at Marketplace Austin aka MI Mercado parking lot just now.

You could almost make a living out of going to parking lots and walking around looking for cash. 😆
Play your cards right, live in city or any populated area where residents pay mainly cash and finding $100/year within a mile radius is not out of the question. Majority in the form of change.

Found $40 (2 Twenty dollar bills) about 20 minutes ago in Marketplace Austin parking lot.

Texans must not value their money or it falls off the money trees you all have. You seem to constantly find cash on the ground. I found a penny the other day. I paid it forward and left it there 😆.
We're surrounded by primarily immigrant population who refrain from using wallets. They pull smartphone from pants pockets and sometimes out comes cash or coins. Crazy, I know.
I'm going to have to start paying more attention to the ground. You're a money magnet. You wield a skill that escapes a lot of folks. You're the dude behind me that picks up lost cash I stepped over and exclaims, "Hey! I just found $20!" 🤣
About the best I've ever done outside of a few dollars was finding a sack of bud in a gas station parking lot back in the day. I thought I struck gold. At the time I did.
Thanks. Served in the Army, and worked as a scout for a bit. Always scanning the ground for changes. Also find myself looking up occasionally.
And I thought I paid attention to my surroundings. I don't even like sitting with my back to an entrance or exit. My head and eyes are always on a swivel. Just haven't developed your radar lock apparently.

I worked in aircraft maintenance (crew chief) in the Air Force. I was good at noticing things because of the inspections I did from that. I just rarely ever find anything beyond coins and those usually are like pennies. I guess people around here keep their money more secure.
Depends on where you live. Our zip code here in north Austin is ~ 70% Latino. Many residents are illegal immigrants and, therefore, under-banked. Some have access to debit cards, but others carry cash.AustinTXCat

Finding fewer coins lately due to huge homeless population. They camp out near car wash, which was a major source of loose-change coins for me over the years.
Found $330 on the ground at keeneland. Stood there for 5-10 minutes waiting to see if anyone came looking. Put it on a WPS $100 bet on a heavy favorite and turned it into $540
My wife and I were helping to clear out her Aunt's house after she passed, and I ran across an unopened Johnnie Walker Blue Label gift box.
One of my favorite Ted talks and podcasts guests is Matt Paxton, who owns a cleaning company and has been on the show Hoarders. He was talking about training people who work for him to be conscious about looking for valuables and cash while doing clean outs. They use techniques to help and one is to shake things before tossing them, particularly books. Books get checked carefully because they’ve found thousands of dollars hidden in them. They also check every pile they sweep up for jewelry because that’s where lost stuff ends up.
